NillIt would be easy to pass this place by, but you would be missing out on a little gem if you did. This little hotel has a lot of history and the owner is knowledgeable about the whole area. The hotel has its own bar and restaurant and we enjoyed superb food and service while we were there. It’s in the center of town, so walkable to everywhere. The rooms are simple, but clean and comfortable. Highly recommend.

NillGreat location to start an adventure in Wrangell St. Elias. The owner, Susan, was very helpful and is a great cook. We enjoyed our stay and would stay there again in the future!

★★★★★This hotel is a historic treasure. Yes the rooms are on the smaller side, but the bed was comfortable. Both dinner and breakfast were available on request. They were not included in rate but very reasonable and very good. It was a great experience as we were able to visit with Matt (Susan was gone) about local history etc. We were to stay only one night but enjoyed it so much we stayed second night after visiting McCarthy and Kennicott during day. We love staying at these places as we want to keep history alive for others in decades to come.

NillFood was great and interior is charming. It's a little on the pricey side but not bad for the area and for the quality of food. The fettuccine Alfredo with salmon was delicious and filling, perfect after a backpacking trip. The hotel accommodation is also quaint and quiet. Rooms are well lit and clean, with a good amount of space in the room and friendly service. There is also some food and a bar nearby. Location and distance outside Wrangell St. Elias National Park makes it a perfect stopping point for long drives to or from the park.

★★★★Tiny rooms, funky place but we really enjoyed it. There is not much around - this is pretty much it. They have a short season and prices are sort of high - that's the way it is in these places in Alaska. The people were delightful. The beds were comfortable. The water was hot. This is definitely not a Holiday Inn Express. Do not come if you are fussy! There was some decent food and drink in the restaurant and lots of people stopped in for a meal. (They ran out of eggs at breakfast and had down the road to get some more a small store in town one day!) I would go again in a heartbeat.

NillThis place was a perfect respite. A charming historic hotel with modest rooms and, blessedly, no TVs. Hot showers and real cotton bedding (no gross polyester comforters). Very reasonably priced and friendly staff. The restaurant downstairs is what makes it. AMAZING food. Best salmon we had in our week in Alaska. Breakfast was just as good. A great place to relax.

★★★★★The best meal since getting to Alaska 8:7/2021. Most comfortable bed and no problems. In the time of Covid they are far down on help and so are closed unless you have made a reservation ahead of time. I’m so happy to have visited here. Very quiet and restful. Great little break.

NillStayed 2 nights 8/26-8/27/21 in room 4. Rate was about $148.50 per night, however I was comped 1 night due to boiler issue. This is a great area to explore, however if I return to the area, I'd likely try the cabins down the road or campout in my vehicle. It is an elegant historic hotel. However to me the inconveniences, especially of the noise would likely prevent my return. Pros: Friendly staff Sue and Maureen. Fast internet for a small Alaska town. (Approx 40mbps). Quick service at the restaurant. Cons: Boiler was out on the evening of arrival. It was supposedly repaired the next day, however even after running the hot water for my shower over 5 minutes, I could never get anything more than lukewarm water. Thin walls allow you to hear your neighbor, any conversations in the hallway, etc. Don't plan to sleep in late here. Once exhaust fans are turned on in preparation for breakfast around 6:30am, and people go downstairs to eat, it is very noisy. No fan or temperature adjustment in the room. I question how well the rooms are cleaned and if the bedding is changed between guests. I found several long black hairs in my sheets and on the blanket. Denver omelette is $15. Very small glass of orange juice was $3 with no refills. Portions were relatively small and I left hungry after spending $21 on breakfast with the tip.
