NillI have had the opportunity to visit Glacier Bay 7 times with family, friends, or business associates. So impressed with the overall experience. There are lifetime memories made there- fishing, enjoying nature, whale watching, visiting the glaciers, etc. The food is great and really the service provided by Jim and Curtis and staff. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend!

NillI experienced a visit to the Glacier Bay Country Inn 6 years ago with my grandson and son-in-law. We had a great time so I am back to share the experience with my two sons, a younger brother, and again with my son-in-law. My sons and younger brother had never visited Alaska before so they were in for a treat. And they enjoyed every day and have great memories with dad and family, great fishing, great accommodations and restful comfortable evening. We all left with wonderful memories and a large box of salmon and halibut to share with our families.

★★★I just stayed a few days at the Glacier Bay Country Inn. The lodge is nice and clean in a peaceful setting. The rooms were comfortable. Being a contractor I noticed a lot of deferred maintenance on the main lodge ie. roof, trim finish work, etc. The staff was friendly and work hard to keep the place up and make you feel comfortable. ||The best part of the food was the bag lunch. The sandwiches were great and there was a variety of snacks, candy, and fruit in them. The breakfast was the same as you would expect at a Quality Inn. The dinner was not that great as the other reviews stated. Don't get me wrong, the presentation was superb but everything was over cooked and dry. ||For the most part, the guest all got along and were friendly. There were 2 big bitter women in comfortable shoes that showed up the day after we arrived that didn't care for some of the guest listening to videos etc on their cell phones and gave them the stink eye and made (Karen) comments to some of the guest. Fortunately I was not one of them. I am sorry but the only place to get wifi here was in the common areas and the guest made use of the wifi.||We came here to fish. When I got on the boat the first day I noticed that the captain was solo. I asked him if he had a deck hand as that what I have been use to on a charter. The barked at me and said, do you want to be my deck hand? His attitude was not good and it took a long time for him to ease up. One of his statements to us was, "I don't know why anyone would spend this kind of money (over 3k) to catch a 36" or smaller fish and go home with 15lbs of fish? That is like over $200 per pound. You must ask yourself, is that worth the experience? Well there was 4 people behind him who just did. The comments he made about fishing in Alaska made you think, why did I just waste my money coming here. This guy obviously didn't like his job and did the minimum. I have been on many boats in Alaska where they catered to the customer so they would have a good and memorable experience, but this guy was not one of those captains. We signed up for a multi spieces trip and he did what he wanted. ||The fishing regulations in Alaska are constantly changing so do your research before booking. There is a gaf permit that cost $400 to keep a halibut over 36". So basically you are getting up sold. You are also only able to keep 1 King Salmon over 28".||In my opinion, do your research, and due diligence before spending money on any lodge trip in Alaska

NillWe came here for my boyfriends 40th birthday dinner (we stayed elsewhere) and it was a truly lovely evening! Definitely make a reservation, there was only 6 tables, exactly who was expected, and it’s served as a prefix dinner with nice choices (probably tell them if you’re vegetarian in advance). They were able to modify to my gluten allergy which was nice and the service was excellent and a really nice “fancy” place to go in town! It was a bit pricey but for a one time special occasion really worth it! We brought our own wine from the liquor store in town (only open 3-7pm and not Sundays!) which I highly recommend doing (another party was jealous that they didn’t realize this!), even though they use juice glasses to serve it, they don’t charge for corking which is nice to still be able to have (it’s run by mormon family I believe). There is plenty of space between the tables and a lovely view outside the big windows. The young women serving us were so friendly and sweet. There was a bigger mosquito problem here than where we stayed (in the bathrooms mostly) but really that’s my only complaint! Really a fantastic place to eat if you’re looking for a nice meal.

★★★★★Gustavus is small, friendly community of locals, seasonal workers and visitors and we were fortunate to meet proprietor Janna early in our trip to Gustavus - this review is for dinner at the lodge||Janna could not have been any sweeter and more accommodating to us. Even though we were staying at a different lodge - she invited us to the Country Inn for dinner and it turned out to be the best meals of our 10 nights in Alaska. Pro-Tip - Call to reserve your table and meal by 2pm.||We feasted on soups, smoky-grilled pork tenderloin w/ garlic sauce, roasted vegetables and rhubarb pie. Incredible.||Thanks Janna for your friendliness and hospitality - great visit!

NillOh where do I began! Glacier Bay Inn us absolutely AMAZING. The staff is lovely and thoughtful right down to the little messages they put on our packed lunches on the boat (picture below). We stayed 4 nights and fished two days. Forest our captain, was easy going and knew the BEST places to catch king salmon and halibut. We came home with beautiful fish!. Here’s the lowdown on fishing. Each person is allowed 1 fish per day of each kind. One day we fished for both salmon and halibut so the two of us came home with 4 fish. The day before we only caught halibut so we came home with 2 fish. The fish you are allowed to keep must be under 40 inches. If you want to catch bigger than 40 you will need to purchase a separate tag for around $400. We were happy with the fish we caught so we did not purchase the additional tags. There are only 6 people allowed on the boat and the other couple we went with did purchase 2 tags for the larger fish they caught as you can see in the picture. Book the trip! This is a trip you will talk about in the years to come!

NillWe had a wonderful stay at the inn. We stayed for 4 nights. I would recommend booking if you want to see Glacier Bay National Park and/or want to go halibut fishing in the area. Service: 5/5 Pre-arrival communication was very good. Pickup at airport excellent. Helpful with allergies, you still need to be on top of it, but they will accommodate food allergies. They will take you to excursion drop offs and pick you up. Its all included in the rate. Very friendly employees. Allowed us to do laundry ourselves in their facility. They will take you to liquor store if you need a tipple for dinner. Facilities: 4/5 Renovated dining area and game room appreciated. Flannel bed linens were cozy and nice comfy beds. Walls are paper thin we could hear our neighbor snoring all night! Rooms in main lodge are small, but for a few nights was acceptable. Shower in room was older and not our favorite. Its in a fairly remote spot, so there is an RV out back and some other scattered debris which detracts from the ambiance. There is a walking trail but its not amazing. There is a nice game room to play pool or table tennis or big buck safari! Nice view from dining area. Fire pit outside was nice albeit a bit worn. Overall a nice property but not luxurious. Some areas could use a refresh. Food: 4+/5 Excellent fresh food, not fancy. Example dishes we had were Dungeness crab (excellent), halibut (decent), wood grilled steak (average). Tea time was appreciated and includes some cheese, cured meats but could use more variety and higher end selections. Packed lunches were just ok, could be better, but hey you get a packed lunch while halibut fishing. Full American breakfasts were provided, can customize for allergies. Fishing: 4/5 Went halibut fishing. You need to know ahead of time the limit is 1 per person in this area max size 36" so although you will catch a ton of fish, most of the fish are not keepers. Guide was extremely knowledgeable and helpful but was not the most friendly or enthusiastic. The area of halibut fishing is somewhat protected and the seas are often calm! and that was a nice treat. If you want to keep very large halibut there is a hefty $400 cash charge for each large fish which is part of the Alaska fishing rules. Area: 4/5 We also did whale watching and national park tour. Both are 4/5 experiences. We had already seen Mendenhall and Leconte glaciers so we were a bit underwhelmed on the national park boat. But it was a nice experience. If you can afford it, I would recommend a private tour of the nat. park. The whale tour was nice, saw a decent amount of humpbacks. There are a few trails in the area, none are world class hikes but are pleasant. Overall impression: We had an excellent stay. For being in a fairly remote area, its a nice place. The service is excellent, the facilities are good, the people are friendly, the nature is beautiful and the food was enjoyable. Don't expect top-tier luxury facilities, but expect a cozy fishing lodge with some serious fisherman and some people just exploring the area. Understand the fishing situation prior to visiting. It's not inexpensive to stay here, the pricing reflects the location and short tourist season.
