Best Western Plus Steeplegate Inn

I am unable to give a 5 star review. We arrived at 3pm. Check in was busy. The front desk person was working as fast as he could. No issues there. It was a busy time. We got our rooms(2) and they seemed clean. Temp was warm because fan was set to on vs auto. Easy fix. Cannot comment on the comfort of beds as we didn't use. We had our kids, so the purpose of our stay was to use the pool amenities...so we went down. The pool courtyard was cold..us adults needed pants and sweatshirts and it wasn't enough. The kids in their swim suits were very cold. There was a window open with a fan for exhaust reasons that seemed to allow a decent draft of cold air in. But never once did we feel furnace air trying to warm the air. Other guests complained as well. The restaurant attached mentioned to me the hotel had a boiler pipe issue. I get it, things happen. Maybe disclose that the heater wasn't working in that area at check in so we knew what to expect. If in the area, we would try this hotel again because of the way they handled this issue, after the complaint. We appreciated the refund. Just a bummer situation.

DO NOT HOST AN EVENT HERE!!! We hosted our wedding reception here back in July and it was an absolute disaster!! they had the heat on in the event room to 80 when we arrived and when we adjusted the thermostat, hotel staff came back around and turned it back up. it was so hot in the event room, we had family members leave very shortly after the wedding party arrival. the hotel staff was incredibly unhelpful and rude, refused to follow through on what we'd planned with their event planner- which left months before our wedding and we were never contacted. the only good part was the wait staff, even though there was 1 server and 1 bartender for 150 people. they were kind and on top of everything all night. we've attempted to go through corporate, called and spoke to the hotel manager, and they all refuse to give us any sort of compensation even though we spent over $3000. I will NEVER return to this awful establishment and highly recommend avoiding it. I waited to post this in hopes that they'd make things right but our calls are never returned.

The hotel had areas that was outdated but not the worst however I payed for a pool view just to not be able to see the pool unless I open the door and exit my room. The staff at the desk made me and my family leave the lounge area at 10:30 but did not do the same for the other guest that was there. The staff in the breakfast area was extremely pleasant.

What a nightmare we had at this place 😔 arrived in the night on our way from Ontario, rented to Queen beds room, entered to the room, horrible smell, the night lamp was super dirty, stained, beds 🛏️ sinking 😨 with horrible sounds, we were super tired, put our daughter to one bed and fell asleep right away. 1 am knocking the door, Your room is getting flooded, because the pipe broke in the hallway. Evacuate, okay, no problem, understandable, can happen, they sent us to a different room, we open it and people sleep there. Can you imagine our 🫨 shock, their shock? 1 am. They got us a different room finally, but management should be better that's for sure. Now we are on our road trip and avoiding Best Western. Never had such experience before!

Room bare, almost like it wasn’t finished. No water pressure in toilet, shower or sinks. This was the ceiling as we walked into our room (see picture below). Hot tub didn’t work and had a large piece of what appeared particle board covering it. The indoor courtyard was full of dying plants from the summer and looked awful. Breakfast was nothing special. Would never stay here again. Thank goodness was it was a quick stop to another destination.

Based on past reviews and hotel pictures and price I thought this was a great deal, remember folks you get what you pay for! The only reason I'm giving 2 stars is because staff was friendly and rooms were clean. The hotel itself is falling apart. The chlorine smell from the pool overwhelms the entire building. There were massive sections of ceiling tile missing or water damaged, wall paper falling down, rusted sprinkler system and that was just the common areas. The room ihad a singular ceiling light that was dim with two side table lamps that looked as though they were picked up from a dumpster. The bathroom fan and a/c unit groaned with a ferocity I've never heard and the mattresses were so worn in the middle they basically folded in half to devour you... I've never had problems with Bester Western but this one took the cake. The tub felt waxed (slipped multiple times while showering), the provided bathroom items seemed to be half filled with water and there was 1 coffee pod in a 2 queen bed room. We tried eating at the hotel restaurant but it was mostly seafood and way expensive for the area, 1 server, we waited 15 min until we left, we didn't even gift breakfast a chance. Stay at the Holiday Express across the road.

I would go out of my way to stay here again. We stopped after a long day driving cross country. The rooms are very nice and the price is very reasonable. The best thing was the restaurant. My wife had the California burger and I had the Hawaiian chicken sandwich. EXCELLENT! What a great way to end a long day.

The entire facility was set at 65" in February and all the common areas were very cold. The pool was not heated and we were initially told we could not use it. One of the reasons we chose the hotel was for the pool and the pool area. We were in town for a youth softball tournament and looked forward taking advantage of the common areas to socialize with the other families. Half the families left after finding bugs in the bed. A couple other families stayed but moved rooms because they found bugs in the bed. We fortunately did not find bugs. The lady at check-in and check-out was not polite at all. One set of the lobby doors to the outside never shut. The pool room had a large exhaust fan the was still running which was probably the reason some of the common areas were so cold. When asked to use the pool table, the staff informed us they did not have any cues or balls. Why then is there a pool table advertised? The ice maker on the main floor does not work. There were several ceiling tiles moved due to appeared water issues. I will not stay there again and will let others know to not stay there. The management / owner is obviously not maintaining or repairing anything. I would highly recommend Best Western to reevaluate this hotel. I would not think Best Western would want its brand associated with this facility. The only bright spot the lady working Sunday morning's breakfast was very sweet and polite.
