★★★★The hotel bed had me and my husband sinking to middle. The rooms need updating and a good overall cleaning. There pool room was freezing but pool warm. The parking was far away and if not familiar didn't know where to unload. The up close parking is closed off and talking with staff has been for a long time with no work being done. Breakfast cost when down the block a newer updated hotel with free breakfast and about same price. If they have sorry the music is load but was done by 11.

★★★★★We were greeted by the friendly front desk staff. During the check in process, I requested a rollaway bed. The bed was delivered before we even got to the room. Shower had great pressure and plenty of hot water for all four of us. No complaints at all. We enjoyed our stay and would stay here again.

★From the moment we pulled in it was a mess. You can’t pull up to the hotel, you have to park down the block and walk in with all your luggage and stuff, even those physically disabled. Apparently the city shut down the parking lot due to a crack in the foundation. We check in, and the nice lady acknowledged our membership status which was nice. We get to the room and it was dated…. and i mean DATED. I was shocked!! For this being right downtown?! And an otherwise seemingly good hotel. Com’mon. The beds were suuuuuper soft and the noise from the highway outside was just unacceptable. The windows were from the 70’s or 80’s, just like everything else. It was obnoxiously loud all night. And you have to pay for breakfast. Do better Des Moines Holiday Inn.

★★★The central air unit was broken so we melted the first night. They brought us fan. They eventually turned the HVAC system off so we froze the other couple of nights. The restaurant was closed most of the time we were there. The door for our room had a problematic lock, so we kept having to get new keys. Maintenance said the battery in door was probably dying. Definitely wasn’t worth the price. The hallway also smelled real bad at times. The staff that checked me in was very helpful.

★★Stayed a several Holiday Inns and this was the worst one. Greeting immediately with the parking lot / unloading zone area closed so you had to park across the street. While walking into the hotel it’s not really clear why it’s closed. No construction or anything just conned off. We go to check it, the employee kept speaking with a man off to the side I Spanish who at first you would think was a guest, nope he was someone who worked there and I guess made the food because we were told “if the food sucks, it’s his fault” then continues to speak Spanish to him while checking us in. We get to the room, super muggy and the window does open a little (I get that for safety since we are on a higher floor) but not being able to use the AC since it’s “fall” is nuts. The room is dated. We went to get a soda from the vending machines, both were expired by 2 months… We go for breakfast in the morning, sign says “section closed” yet there is people in the area eating and breakfast still had another hour at this point. We just walked by it since we didn’t have much time to get to what we were doing. I guess we were supposed to be seated but no one was there to do it. Food was ok. This was lower on the per night but I suggest spending the money and staying somewhere else.

NillCustomer service at the front desk was awful. Not friendly, no smile, argumentative, not willing to help. Parking lot was closed. Had to walk a block from the entrance with luggage in tow, my 80 yr old mother could barely make the walk, especially in 9 degree weather with snow. The room was noisy with a “thump” outside all night. Couldn’t stay asleep. Awful stay, probably the worse hotel I’ve stayed at and says a lot since I travel frequently.

★I unfortunately stayed during the transition phase of their heating/cooling system. It's a system that uses water to heat or cool the rooms. It cannot, unfortunately, do both. Ie, room 238 set to heating, while room 453 set to cooling. It's either hot cold neutral. My system had malfunctioned and provided hot air while in cooling mode. Hence, room temp hit 80 before I woke up sweating. No mention of thus by hotel staff until AFTER I complained. They did acknowledge the problem and refunded me the stay charges, which I did appreciate.

★★★★Good location in Des Moines but I was quoted one price then I was charged $50 more. The hotel overall is nice. The parking lot was closed off but there was another parking area that was easily in walking distance.
