Econo Lodge

Couple years back, my husband and I found ourselves driving from Minneapolis to a small town in South Dakota in a horrific snowstorm on Christmas Day. The total drive is supposed to take about 5 hours, but that afternoon it took 4 hours just to get to Ortonsville. Exhausted and hungry, I called this hotel at nearly 10pm, hoping for a warm accommodation for my husband and I. Not only were they open, they also offered pizza. Was it frozen pizza that they heated up? Yes. Was it the best pizza ever that night? Also yes. We couldn't have been happier and slept so well that night. I'll always remember the sound of the receptionist's voice on the other line and her warm Minnesota accent saying "Ok sweetie, we'll see you soon" which immediately put us at ease. Woke up in the morning to a beautiful snowy landscape, and as we left to continue our journey, their sign saying "Relax, ur here" couldn't have been more fitting.

The only reason I gave 4 stars for location is because there isn't really a lot to eat around the area. They do have a Casey's gas station down the street, and a few other local places in town. Otherwise this hotel is a great place to stay if you find yourself in the area. The staff were nice enough, and the only issue I had was connecting to the wifi at first, but I restarted my equipment and was able to get on. It is easy enough to get in and out of, the only warning I have is that they do not have an elevator, so if you're in the position to need assistance, I would suggest requesting to be roomed on the 1st floor if possible.

It’s incredibly clean and the room was spacious. Beware anyone with physical issues, there is no elevator, even though it’s only two floors. The beds were comfy and so were the pillows. Ample lighting and ample parking, easy to find. What struck us as odd, was that it seemed to have been recently renovated and a kitchenette installed, but there were no mugs, plates or anything you’d find in a kitchenette. Breakfast was great, except there were only fruity teas, no regular. But eggs scrambled with ham, bacon and hash browns, were really good!

From the minute we walked in, we knew this was a great place. The owner, Artie, checked us in, recommended a place for dinner and made us feel very welcome. The hotel was spotless in the public areas, the rooms were the same. Hardwood flooring and a comfortable recliner in the room. The bed was very comfortable. Windows that OPEN!

Basic no frills, clean quiet. I was totally surprised by the breakfast! I didn’t think it would amount to much, it was very good!

Great place to stay. Clean, updated rooms and bathrooms. Staff was friendly, and the continental breakfast was very good plus had a wide variety. Would recommend anyone to stay there, and I know we will again. Great thing for fisherman is the free fish cleaning shack access by Artie's bait store!

This is the best Econolodge we have stayed in. We were told that it has a new owner, who is local, and it feels like it. It's clean, has good water pressure, comfortable beds and a cooked breakfast - when we were there, we had biscuits with gravy and a fried potato/pepper, sausage combo. The personnel were friendly and helpful. We had a Non-smoking room and it didn't smell like smoke.
