NillGreat location! Staff is amazing! But the renovations are terrible at the moment. The staff is trying their best, manager and front desk, with what they have. I feel as though the owner should be supporting this renovation more. Also renovations aren’t high quality. Rooms are FREEZING and the washrooms are half updated. Old bathtubs, toilets are obviously older, but updated flooring. Very interesting combo. Do have to say, the brand new mattresses and pillows were AMAZING. Location is AWESOME. And the staff made our visit!

NillThis hotel is newly renovated and changed brand to a Wyndham. It was a smart decision to rebrand. They have a friendly staff, clean rooms and great restaurant and bar.

Ratings Are Important
NillLike the other reviews, the staff is really nice and they try to be accommodating. The place itself is a dump. Elevators didn't work all weekend, so we used the service elevator, which was near the garbage and smelled. The heat in our room barely worked. The shower had tepid water, at best. The carpets are dingy, etc.

NillLet me start by saying the staff is nice, accommodating, and friendly. But like most other reviews have said, this hotel is terrible. My first room (we’ll get to this story soon) was for sure not totally cleaned. Tv stand was collecting dust. There also was no outlet behind it to plug the TV/fridge in so I had to pick up and move the fridge in order for the power strip to be plugged in the outlet. The view from this room was desolate - an empty, decrepit pool. This was night one. All throughout the second day/night I noticed my air conditioner despite being set to its lowest was slowly dying. I tried to lie to myself and say that the temp was going up because it was during the day and the sun was beating down on the hotel. This was not correct. After going out and returning to the hotel to sleep I discovered the AC was flat out broke and spitting out hot air. Called the front desk and they were understanding and moved me to a diff room. Unfortunately this room’s air conditioning was also broken. Called the desk again and they determined it was a hotel-wide issue as the lobby was boiling hot. It was at this time I decided to just leave - the front desk was gracious enough to refund me the second night. I found a second hotel close by and was able to check in quickly and efficiently. The person at that front desk heard my tale and laughed - they knew all about how terrible the Holiday Inn was + gave me some free drinks because of what I had been through. All in all, this hotel is bad. It’s seemingly under perpetual construction and amenities simply are not working! Staff is very nice though and reasonable. If I had to argue my way into getting refunded I would have been way more mad than I was. This is disappointing because the location is great so this place could easily be way better than it is but ownership/management doesn’t seem to care. Don’t stay here!!!

NillThe hotel is under construction, undergoing renovations that significantly detract from the experience. Downtown Rochester is not as nice as I thought it would be. The hotel seems to take security seriously and had two security guards in the lobby and a small lighted parking area with security cameras. Our room had not been renovated yet (but needed to be) and there were plaster dust and fragments on the old carpeting that needed to be replaced. The bathroom was so small that there was no place for a toilet paper roll holder. Overall, the room was below average. The bed was comfortable and the sheets seemed fresh and clean. The room temperature was good and the room smelled clean and fresh. The staff were friendly, pleasant and helpful. I would not stay here again. I should have read the reviews.

NillI highly advise against staying here. The hotel is practically in the process of being built and should NOT be having guests. The street leading in is being worked on as well, and almost all of the entrances to the hotel are locked, including the main doors at the front. Inside there are wet paint fumes, equipment everywhere, and having to navigate to our room between construction crews and materials in eerie hallways. Our elevator refused to take us up to our floor and got stuck, and we eventually managed to get out on the fourth floor (our room is on the sixth) and we were immediately told by a security guard that we could not be on this floor-even though guest amenities such as the ice machine are located there. It seems the entire floor is being reserved for students or something? We went to take the stairs and we were warned the doors are usually locked at night in the stairways and we would have to retrieve someone to unlock them for us if needed. The room itself was pretty standard, and I have neither complaints nor praises. Construction started up again, loud enough to be heard in our room, in the morning. We went downstairs for breakfast and were told it was not complimentary. $15 PER PERSON for a regular hotel breakfast that is usually free of charge? No thanks. After our stay, we are hit with unexpected charges, including parking which we were not informed that there was a fee for. Even half the cost we paid would still have been too generous for the experience we had.
