I was there in 1964 and 65 I was with a few airmen from Elmendorpf AFB. The owners made made us feel very welcom. We hade music and there were enough young ladies there to dance with us till the sun came up. I caught my limit of Grayling the next morning and I became a very good friend of an older gentelman named Jimmy Secound Chief. He had a cabin just north of your lodge and one day he made us soup with rice, celery, carrots and the lower jawbone of a caribou. That was a sign of great friendship that he felt for me and my hunting companion. I have a lot of pictures of Jimmy and his cabin , as well as me fishing in the creek and of my catch. because the date that I was there isn't available on you setup I chose one that was bogus.

My first trip to Alaska. This is not your usual type of place. Very rustic with fireplace, animal skins and trophies. While this may not be for some, it is an authentic representation of the Alaska experience. The cabins are simple and sweet with quilts, chairs and heated. The restrooms are at another building with showers or in the lodge during the colder months. The owners are ecologically minded-organic, no waste here. They even grow their own food in the warmer season. There is even a historical outdoor liquor store made from what looks like an outhouse. I was sad to miss the music festival and heard interesting stories about the iditarod Trail Sleigh races. The creek is beautiful. I took a walk early every morning I was there which was two nights. Food was very good and not your usual run of the mill.

After many times passing this place and wanting to try out the restaurant, this year we finally did.||I got the tuna melt sandwich...melted in my mouth! It was amazing! The price of the food was incredible and almost unbelievable at how affordable it was, especially with the amount of food they give you. The lady was super nice and welcoming. I'm so glad we decided to stop in!! This place will be a "must" on my family weekend trips from now on!||I loved their food and the decor of the cabin! I highly recommend to anyone driving up the Glenn Highway!!

Our family spent Christmas here. The historic lodge is so homey and warm! We enjoyed super yummy meals and the cozy cabin. We ice skated on the creek and skied on the freshly groomed trails and afterwards enjoyed a hot toddy by the river rock fireplace. It was the best Christmas ever! Mabel and Russ are such gracious hosts, we felt just like family. Be sure to enjoy Mabel's homemade cinnamon rolls. This is a true Alaskan gem!

We stopped here on our travels from NM to Anchorage. This was the best food on the 4K mile journey. It's been a few weeks since we visited, but we still talk about their delicious fresh eggs, potatoes, bacon and bread. Part of the cabin was built in the early 1900's and had a very homey feel. The rest is new, but filled with gorgeous trophies of wildlife. We plan on making a trip back up from anchorage, just to get breakfast one day!!!

Great place to stay, especially because of the owners. Very relaxed and friendly. I've lived in Alaska for 34 years and have gone by the place a thousand times. The cabin has two beds and one chair. No TV and no bath, outdoor plumbing only. The bedding was awesome. If you want a true Alaska experience, this is it. The meals are great, salad with greens from the garden, and what I experience at 5 star restaurants Outside. Breakfast was amazing with fresh eggs, thick sliced bacon, home cooked potatoes, and home made bread. Loved it, and I'll keep it on my list of favorites in Alaska.

The lovely hostess Maybell made us feel at home. We stayed in a private dog friendly cabin. We skijored miles of groomed trails. Came back to a wonderful home cooked meal, great fresh salads. Then we soaked in the outdoor hot tub. Keep your eyes open for Northern Lights. She offers beer or wine and even fresh eggs from her happy chickens. They also have a big Bluegrass festival there in May.

We were looking forward to our breakfast stop here after reading one favorable review. What we found was a bit chilly however, inside the warmish building. We walked in and were met with the owner's back - she did not turn around for some time and we felt like we were intruding. We were the only patrons. When deciding where to sit, at no welcome of her, we asked if we could sit in the sunny main room to which her reply was "Probably not." The chilly service continued along an unwelcome vein as she took our orders and we ordered coffee. She gave us empty coffee cups but the coffee was not poured until some 10-15 minutes later when our food was served. At that time we asked for water for the rest of our party who had not ordered coffee. After delivering our food, she tried to make nice small talk but our nice experience was lost by that time. She remained in close proximity, occupied on her phone, during our meal. She never offered coffee refills. The food was ok - bread was tough (having been microwaved to defrost before toasting), potatoes a bit raw and the eggs greasy. We will not be returning. (PS I saw your response - that must of been another party because we did talk in full sentences to your back as you sat staring at your screen on the counter. Sorry if my review ruffled your feathers but as a 45 year resident of Alaska, I feel very strongly about good customer service that reflects our state well. And seriously, waiting 10-15 minutes for a cup of coffee? We must've visited on a bad day.)
