★★★★★There were 3 of us. Rented 2 rooms. Each room in the lodge has only 1 bed-only 2 people allowed per room. Rooms were super clean. Had a microwave & refrigerator. We originally were booked at Glacier Bay Lodge. They cancelled our reservation about 2 weeks before our trip. Had to scramble to find a room. I left messages with 4 places Glacier Bay recommended. Frank was the first to call me back. Thankfully he had 2 rooms available. He picked us up at the airport. He arranged for a taxi the next morning to take us to Glacier Bay for the boat tour and to pick us up after the tour and take us to the airport.||We rode bikes to the nearest grocery store to pick up some drinks and snacks. We had dinner at the restaurant at the lodge. We all had salmon, which was delicious.

★★★★★Excellent choice. The room was comfortable, clean; brand new, in fact. Well appointed with coffee maker, fridge, and microwave. The owner is a very friendly fellow and will pick up and drop off at the airport (call him in advance to let him know). The lodge dog is a fine, friendly animal. He did a good job defending the back-yard garden against an intruding moose! (This is Alaska) It is a mile to the 2 nearest eateries and liquor store (the only place in town to buy beer, wine, spirits for carry out) , half a mile to the only grocery store in Gustavus. You can walk or borrow a lodge bike to get to these places. Park headquarters, visitors center, and dock for embarkation on the excellent day-boat is 8 miles: bike or taxi. The lodge does not as yet have WiFi or TV...but you didn't come to Gustavus to sit on your computer. I did my daily messaging on the WiFi at the cafe's.

★★★★★We are the do-it-yourself type travelers and prefer places with kitchens. The cabin was perfect for us. Very clean, large refrigde with ice trays, well stocked kitchen, comfy bed/towels, and plenty of hot water. The little heater kept the temperature perfect. We brought our own food from Juneau and Frank was at the ferry dock to pick us up. We took the bikes to Glacier Bay the next day. 18 mi roundtrip was a bit much but we had fun. Enjoyed the clean chairs on the porch to sit and read. No bugs. No wifi. Very quiet. I would stay here again.

★★★★★My husband and I stayed 1 night at Cottonwood after spending 2 nights at a more expensive lodge inside Glacier Bay National Park. We were pleasantly surprised to these exceptionally comfortable and clean accommodations at half the price of the park lodge. The owner Frank was very friendly and provided transportation to and from the airport. Gustavus is a tiny town but there are a few good restaurants and cafes within walking distance.

★★★★★Frank and Annie were gracious and caring hosts. The cabins are modern, clean, private, very comfortable, well stocked kitchen, and best value in very small town. We spent a week in August 2018 in the pouring rain and had the BEST time. Book excursions through Frank for easy transportation. Especially appreciated the bikes! Highly recommend. Don't miss Glacier Bay boat tour and whale watching tour. Internet at the library. Cell service spotty but you won't miss it at this fabulous place.

★★★★★We enjoyed staying at this cabin. It was very clean, private, well stocked kitchen supplies and very nice hosts. Frank was very accommodating with rides to the ferry and airport. Ann was so nice to show us all around their garden and greenhouse. And then there was Puddy! We were missing our dogs at home and this super friendly fella gave us our dog fix! 🐾🤣 They also provided bicycles to ride around the area.

NillCottonwood lodge was exactly what we were looking for. Simple and clean accommodations for a great price. There are several “all inclusive” type resorts in the area if you want to be chauffeured around and have your every need met and pay $$$ for it! But if you are an independent traveler who enjoys exploring an area and eating at different places and steering your own sightseeing and adventures, then Franks place is perfect. If you do stay there (at least until frank gets his shuttles up and running again -due to covid he was not running them at this time) I would recommend renting a car in Juneau and taking it on the ferry to Gustavus. The only rental place in the Area is “buds rental car” and his cars were severely run down. We enjoyed talking with Frank and leaning about his plans for the lodge. He will be adding a restaurant which he hopes to open next summer. We also enjoyed meeting Puddy the dog who always helped us not miss our own pup so much! Bicycles and helmets are provided if you want to explore the area more. Overall a great place!

NillWe were marooned in Gustavus for a week before the busy season started. The lodge was very clean and comfortable. The Hosts were extremely helpful, and charming. And the town had interesting feel. Strongly recommend as an alternative to big cruise ships.
