★★★★★We took a 'bucket list' family vacation to Alaska complete with fishing, hunting and lots of r&r! Were referred here by a co-worker who had stayed while over on business (we're life science people) and stayed in the main lodge. What a suprise! The views were amazing! The ability to be on vacation but still have a home-cooked meal while enjoying the scenery was priceless to us and the amenities were a plenty - even a washer and dryer! ||||The bald eagles flying over the back balcony while you have your morning coffee weren't too bad either! Definitely a great experience!!!!

NillHouse was beautiful! Very clean and tidy. Beds and pillows very comfortable. View from the upstairs bedroom and kitchen area is stunning! Best view in town. There was laundry soap for us, towels, mini soap/shampoo, cooking spices and utensils, extra blankets, everything we needed!

★★★★★We enjoyed our stay at Port Frederick Lodge. It was luck that we found this house - at the last minute the house we were to stay at fell through. John the caretaker was very helpful and got us set up to use the house. Even helped us find crab pots when we were blessed with a ton of crab to eat. ||||The house is decorated very nice and has all the comforts of being home. Each room had a TV although we never used in our room. The loft was a hideaway for my niece. The deck overlooks the icy straits and we had a couple glimpses of whales from our deck. We also had two eagles that nightly sat in the tree off the deck - they were impressive. ||||The only weakness was the wifi - they had it but it was slow but this prevented me from working.

★★★★★Hoonah is a popular stop for cruise ships, but if you’re staying in town and not just passing through you should absolutely consider the Port Frederick Lodge.||||NOTE: Hoonah is a small town (population about 750) on a remote island and they don’t have any national or regional hotel/motel chains there. Almost all the lodging is in converted homes and cabins with single owners, many of whom have unique procedures and practices. For example, the Port Frederick Lodge sends their guests invoices at the beginning of each month rather than have them pay upon check-out (they don’t even have a registration desk or front office there). It would be helpful to discuss their procedures when you make your reservation to avoid any surprises or confusion.||||The main lodge has several rooms that are available to reserve. I stayed in their cabin, which is a bit pricier but set apart from the lodge and very private. It is important that you come prepared – bring your own toiletries, including soap, shampoo and lotion. The cabin has a coffee maker, microwave, refrigerator, hair dryer and satellite television. It is furnished with a double bed, desk, dresser and small dining table. It also has an inflatable mattress and several sleeping bags if more than one person is staying there. There is also free wifi, but you may have to search a little to find where the password is written down (check the guest log). There is no daily maid service; the cabin is cleaned before and after your stay. There is no food service on-site, and the nearest diner and market are a bit of a hike, so plan accordingly.||||Once you get settled in, the cabin is very functional and the bed is quite comfortable. If you’re a business traveler like me and are used to staying in frenetic urban areas, you’ll find it wonderfully (and almost eerily) quiet and peaceful. I’m told that deer often come down and walk around the property, but I didn’t see any during my four-night stay. The view of the harbor from both the cabin and the property are simply magnificent. This is a place where you really do feel like you’re away from it all! If I ever have the good fortune of visiting Hoonah again, I would definitely return to the Port Frederick Lodge.

NillThere is no such place as Port Frederick Lodge, so I'm not sure why Google ask me to review it and stated that I had visited there.
