We went in September 2017 to see bears.||The excellent staff persuaded us to try our hand at fishing. The fishing was really good fun and whilst fishing the bears came to us.||It is really amazing to be so close to bears without you being a threat to them and they are really no threat to you either. All they are interested in is the salmon.||The guides were brilliant and we even had a day trip to Brooks Falls. Again that was fabulous. The official season had ended at Brooks so there were loads more bears then people. An incredible experience and many thanks to all the staff||Helen and Keith Jones

Superb operation from initial check to the final goodbye, everything was well thought out and Flawlessly executed. The flight from Anchorage left on time and was exactly 1 hour as advertised, the accommodations were brand new cabins that were warm, Very comfortable and quiet. The entire staff was friendly and approachable and did a wonderful job. if you want to see bears on your trip this is by far the best place to go, there are bears everywhere!, After a hot breakfast made to order, short walk to the boats and you were fishing within 10 minutes. The fishing was like you dream a lodge trip would be - non stop large rainbows until your arm cramps up!! I will say that fishing the same river every day does start to get old even though the fishing never lets up. We did a fly out to American Creek just to break up the trip and it was very well worth it. if you’re going to Kulik for more than a few days I suggest taking a fly out so be prepared to spend a little extra money to do that, you won’t Be disappointed.

On our 30th wedding anniversary trip we exceeded our expectations. The setting for this lodge is perfect. Cozy cabins and friendly, helpful staff made our trip so much fun. After a terrific breakfast off you go to Brooks Lodge for the Falls and bear viewing unsurpassed. Or take a turn in the lake for fishing. I’m practicing so we can go back next fall! After your full and enjoyable day back to the lodge for a delicious dinner. We met so many intriguing people and their tales of travel.

We loved it!!! What else can I say. Mainly a fishing joint, but we who dont fish would love to go back and learn how to. We were there for the salmon run at Brooks Falls. You just get spoiled out here. Maximum guests on the island is low 20’s. Staff is about 26. Love to fish but your husband doesnt? - you still get a guide just for you. Food is really good. I can go on and on…

My husband and I spent four nights for the “Explorer Tour” package. Everything happened as promised in their brochures with no glitches at all. We showed up at the Katmai Air terminal at Lake Hood and met three other guest couples, then the 8 of us were flown on a small plane to a dirt runway where we were shuttled a short distance by van to the lodge for lunch. Our cabin was not ready yet so we immediately were fitted with waders and given fly rods and taken out on a small boat with a guide to fly fish in the Kulik River. The scenery and the river were beautiful. The second day we were flown by floatplane (more beautiful scenery) to Brooks Camp and spent all day viewing the bears catching salmon (amazing). Two guides stayed there all day as escorts for our group, and we had a buffet lunch there. The third day a different guide took us to fly fish the Kulik River and Kulik Lake. Neither of us had fly fished before in any real sense, but we both caught several good size rainbow trout and lake trout. The guides used our cameras to take photos of us with the fish. They did all of the equipment preparation as well as netting the fishes we caught and helping remove them from the hook for us since we were novices. One couple we met were hard core fly fishers and they fished unguided by themselves for hours after dinner every night in the late daylight. The fourth day we again flew to Brooks Camp and did the Valley of 10,000 Smokes hike (strenuous, interesting). The fifth day my husband fly fished some more while I took a short hike with some of the other guests to the shore of Kulik Lake, before we flew back to Anchorage mid-day. All meals were included and were great, all served in the main building. Breakfasts were cooked to order. Lunches were buffet style, serving your own plate. Generous hors d'oeuvres were served in the bar area one hour before dinner. Dinners were family style, passing dishes around the tables, with multiple options of meat/fish and sides. Our cabin (#4) was small but comfortable except Alaska was having a record heat wave and there was no A/C or even a fan and the air did not flow much even with a back window and the screen door open. There was a small shower stall next to the beds, and a toilet and sink in the bathroom with its own door. There was a bunk bed (two single beds), a separate single bed, and a chair. Housekeeping came by daily while we were out. The door had no lock but none was needed since this is truly out in the wilderness. A ground squirrel entertained us several times on the path outside. Wi-fi was available in the main lodge and cabins and worked fairly well. The only negative about the whole experience was that the manager and the guides sometimes seemed a bit aloof, like they didn’t really enjoy meeting guests, although they did make sure that everything happened as expected and performed their duties patiently and professionally. The kitchen staff, however, were warm and friendly.

It takes about an hour and a half flight to get to Kulik Lodge from Anchorage. The premises are very basic - 4 people share a small cabin and a bathroom. But it doesn't matter much as most of the time we spent outside - fishing and bear watching. The nature is amazing, fishing unforgettable. They have a great team of young enthusiastic people who take care of all the customers need. We'll definitely return.

Everything and everyone there was excellent from arrival to departure! This includes all guides, pilots, kitchen staff etc. Food was tops too. Would LOVE to come back. Cabins were all updated - modern and clean. Their website’s pictures don’t do justice. Fishing and bear watching are just wow! If you have the time and money, don’t hesitate.

Wow!!!! From the time you step off the plane you are treated to a one of a kind experience. The the staff is overwhelmingly helpful, they take you to your room. Then you are introduced to Alaska with a front-row view. They take care of all your fishing needs from licenses, to Waiters,to gear ,to boats and the guides are phenomenal. The guide take you to the Kulik River and if you've never fished before will teach you how to fish and if you have fish before you're in for a treat. The food is first class from the morning breakfast made order, to the buffet at lunch and then the family style dinners at night. They have a wonderful bar where everybody sits around and talks about the fishing that the day produced. If you've never been to Alaska this is the place to go. Chad and his staff will accommodate you beyond belief.
