NillSad but this place looks abandoned now I rented the apartment upstairs the office years ago and it was beautiful has big windows you could stand there and see the whole town! Sad to see it all tore up! I bet the original owner Bonnie would roll over in her grave she loved that place so much they stayed in the back house on the property Thank You ☀️ 🙏 good memories

★★★OK, so at first glance the Hillcrest Motel might totally look like a "Bates Motel." It is old (actually dates back to the 1920's), and the furniture, fixtures etc. could use an upgrade. There are no phones in some of the rooms and they also take weekly and monthly renters (and all that that implies). Still, the Hillcrest had our priorities covered: the beds were SUPER comfortable (some of the most comfortable motel beds I've ever slept in, in fact); our room was extremely clean, not one hair or speck of dirt in the bathroom; plenty of hot water - SOFT hot water - with good pressure, and the heat worked GREAT, which was important since we visited in late October! And we got a good price. ||||The Hillcrest is a mom-n-pop place operating on a skeleton crew, so things here are quite casual. The on-site Veranda Bar sometimes "doubles" as the front desk (it did when we arrived) and you'll have better luck calling it than you will the front desk. We visited the Veranda twice during our stay and enjoyed ourselves playing pool and conversing with some of the regulars. Our housekeepers (a couple of 60-something American men - a switch!) were very attentive and courteous. ||||Just about our only complaint would be our noisy neighbors, three men apparently back from a hunting trip and ready to par-TAY. Fortunately they didn't keep us awake long. Those soft, comfy beds lulled us back to la-la-land in a hurry. If things like free continental breakfast, workout rooms, pools, jacuzzis, in-room wi-fi and such are important to you when choosing a hotel, the Hillcrest isn't gonna do it for you. We're talking "basic" with capital "B." But if, like us, you plan to spend the majority of your time out exploring and just need a comfortable place to sleep at a reasonable price, consider it. Otherwise, Evanston has a good selection of chain hotels too.

★★This is now an extended stay; pay by the week. It is mostly for the down and out it appears. Some long term residents there. The people who run it are really nice, decent people, but the place is run down. Guess that is why it is only $153 week.||One neighbor was an aggressive drunk the police would do nothing about. There are over a dozen stray cats hanging out. Not my first pick. One week was more than enough.
