Grandma's Inn

SOMEONE MUST TELL GRANDPA!!! I was looking for a place to stay close this year and stumbled again across this place. Brought back HORRIBLE memory of my sleepless night last year longing to get a tetanus shot- even being current- as there was blood stains on on the sheets, the mini fridge had mold, you could run your hand over the carpet and dirt popped up!!!!! The window was hanging and looked vandalized!! (who would want to break in?) The water was Light brown!! I normally NEVER leave bad reviews but seeing this outside/indoor camping hotel is still around Blows me away!!! There is no "staff". I left a comment card but it doesn't appear anything has changed. I am sure ANY health department would shut this down!! The town is charming and that's all I have to say- If someone cared- and cleaned it could have potential.

This was usually the hotel we always stayed in on our trips to Torrington. It was ALWAYS clean, friendly and very well managed. I made reservations two months ago for a room for college graduation. The new owner asked that I call one hour in advance as she did not have anyone hired at the time to live there and manage it and she would have to drive that far get us a key. That was not a problem I was willing to do that. I called an hour before arrival and could not get anyone to answer the phone so left a message when we would be arriving. Got to Torrington and pulled into the parking lot and it looked abandoned, the grass was long and everything just had an unkept look to the place that was not normal. Not one vehicle in the area. I tried calling numerous times and still no answer, nothing at all. Finally after just hitting redial I got a very exasperated woman on the line that said I should have had a call from the owner telling me to pick up the key from Juan downtown, I never got that message and had no idea what she was talking about. So sent the husband downtown to get the key and Juan told him he did not have any keys for the place. In the meantime the woman called me back and said there were no clean rooms and she would have to drive an hour to come clean a room if we still wanted one? UMMM yea! I said yes as we just needed to change our clothes and we would be gone until later. She was kind of put out about having to drive that far to clean a room in a hotel I had a reservation for for two months! Juan in the meantime said he would refund our money? Why would my credit card be charged until we checked in and if no one was there to check us in how could they charge me for a room? It all was so unprofessional that I called a couple other hotels in town and found one with a room open for us so took that room. I called the new manager back and told her to forget my room and my credit card had better not have been charged. She assured me it wasn't but I am waiting to see if that is true. Who in the world just leaves rooms dirty in the first place? I would not recommend this place any more to any one, avoid this place and go somewhere else. They said that if we wanted to drive an hour away they would give us clean rooms there for the same place. If I wanted a room in a town an hour away I would have reserved one there.

I believe it's under new management and they are making some changes. We had a large room with a kitchenette. I enjoyed our stay overall. Bed was comfortable, water was hot, pets are allowed. Two cons I had are 1. People that seem to be staying there on an extended time would let their dog out un-attended. It growled at me when I went out to smoke, and also ran after my very small shorkies. 2. The water pressure in the kitchenette was very bad. Over all very nice manager and owner. I feel they are working to make adequate changes.

I arrived to check in and called the number provided on the office door (office door was locked). I was told that I had called and cancelled my reservation the day before (which I had not). There I was in 100 degree heat, wishing to relax and shower after driving for 2 straight days. When I replied that I was driving and had not called nor canceled my reservations. The woman told me that she had to look into this and hung. She never called back!!! Luckily, another hotel in Torrington had a vacancy for the 8 days I was to be there visiting my birth father. I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone!!

Stayed here 1 night thinking it looked like a cute local mom and pop place. Pretty rough inside. I saw a mouse run across the bed next to me. I called the manager and told her about it, she apologized but didn't offer another room and I told her I'd stay because I was really tired. About an hour later a mouse ran across me under my covers. That time I chose to sleep in the car over the motel! I called the manager again. She laughed about it, but promised to refund my money. It's been over a month and no refund.

Had a great stay with my family, we were able to BBQ and have a nice evening outside visiting. Our pets were welcomed with open arms and the property was clean and well lite. The train was noticeable but not enough to keep us awake. The Inn is now under new management and is serving coffee and a small grab and go breakfast bar. I wont to thank you for the pleasant experience and we well be returning in the near future.

It was the worst experience at a hotel. The check in hours are only 2-5. We got there at 3 and no one was there. We called the number posted and talked to a very rude and annoyed woman who said she had to come back into town and clean the room. We waited an hour before she came back. She said she couldn't find my reservation even though I prepaid a week before. Then told me expedia "just sent it today." We came back that nite, the room had been sprayed with air freshener heavily, the chair was broken, the tub dripped, there was no hot water, no phone, no clock, and the bed was pretty worn. Since I prepaid we stayed the next night and discovered the air freshener was covering a urine smell. I never saw the office occupied for the rest of our stay, I'm not sure how they get any business. Next time I will pay extra and stay somewhere else.

This is the worst motel I have ever been in, EVER. The room was out dated and very poorly maintained. I was only here to visit a friend who was staying at this motel. She was the only guest in the whole motel. After she let me in, I tried to lock the door behind me and she said that the lock did not work. I was very shocked to hear that. Why wouldn't you put her in ANY other room that had a working lock? Very weird. It was almost 8pm and she said that no maid had even been there either. Everything is old, breaking down, and dirty. The beds are cheap, uncomfortable, and the comforters have to be from the 60's. I can't figure out how this motel is still open for business. Spend your hard earned money else where! The place is a real dump. STAY SOMEWHERE ELSE!!
