Summer in northern Michigan feels like stepping back in time—a place where you can disconnect from technology and immerse yourself in nature. Fountain Point embodies that charm: peaceful, nestled by the lake, and seemingly frozen in a simpler era. Sounds idyllic, right?||||For some, it might be. I never considered myself privileged. I saved up for my vacation, eager to unwind at Fountain Point with my kids. Before the trip, my teenage daughter received a Polo towel from her boyfriend as a gift. One afternoon on the beach, we noticed another family with the same towel but didn’t think much of it.||||The next day, while using our towel on the beach, the manager approached us, accusing us of stealing it from that family. Shocked, I stood my ground, but he threatened to call the police. Rather than escalate the situation, we gave up our towel, packed our things, and left. I have never felt so humiliated.||||So, if you’re white and privileged, perhaps you’ll have a different experience. But for me, Fountain Point was anything but welcoming.

We just hosted our daughter’s wedding at Foxglove Farm and selected the Fountain Point Resort as the accommodation for our guests. The combination of these two venues could not be more perfect. (We wrote a separate Google review on Foxglove Farm). Having all of our guests at the Fountain Point Resort (we basically took over the place!) meant that we truly had a weekend long celebration. The party started Friday night with a welcome bonfire, s’mores, beer and wine. The staff at the Fountain Point took delivery of our alcohol and, at the appropriate time, placed ice and our beverages in large buckets which they transported down to the bonfire for us. On Saturday, we hosted the late night snack and after party in the main house of the lodge. (This was possible because our guests had rented all of the rooms in the lodge). Our guests were thrilled when they arrived back to the resort following the wedding reception and were greeted by an amazing feast of sliders and truffles fries with all the fixings. A really late night (early morning) bonfire capped off the evening. We also served a light brunch in the dining room Sunday morning. Though we arrived a little early to make sure the dining area was cleaned up from the night before the Fountain Point staff had already done that for us. And, when we realized that the caterer for our brunch forgot to include plates, napkins and utensils in their delivery the Fountain Point staff pulled out glass plates we could use while they drove to the caterer to retrieve the missing items. (And then they placed the dirty plates in the dishwasher for us). Aside from the incredible above and beyond service, the setting with its white cottages along Lake Leelanau is spectacular. Our guests enjoyed taking advantage of all the lake “toys” (fishing rods, small boats, nets, etc.) and just soaking in the serene surroundings on adirondack chairs. The cottages themselves (including the beds) were very comfortable and the various configurations — from one bedroom to large multi bedroom — allowed us to put families and friends together. Those on a tighter budget could stay in a single room right in the main lodge. Our daughter and her partner really wanted a wedding weekend that felt like grown up sleep away camp with everyone together. The Fountain Point Resort delivered and, between their service and setting, contributed to what was a truly magical weekend. We cannot recommend the Fountain Point more highly. Many thanks to Theo, Eric, Kathy, Ken, Elaine and Jason and everyone at the Fountain Point who made our stay and weekend so special!

We attended a family outdoor wedding. The views from sitting on the wrap around deck to sitting out by the beach were all relaxing and absolutely picturesque.

I stayed here for a night after a camping trip just to sleep in a bed and have a nice shower before I left to go back home, and now I’m wishing I could have stayed a couple extra days here. The main house is an old school hotel, unlike any hotel experience I’ve ever had. As a whole it’s very charming and relaxed. I loved the porch, I spent most of my time on it reading and snacking. I also hung out in the main room late at night on a comfy leather couch reading for a while as well. My room had a king sized bed and an offshoot room with a twin and it had its own sink. I slept great. No tvs, which I loved, but they do have WiFi. The bathrooms are down the hall with the toilets and showers. They have a room with a little coffee bar and a fridge for guests to store their food. They have a nice beach front for their guests and let you use their kayaks and canoes. They have pool tables and loads of other activities and games available for you. Me and my family usually stay falling waters lodge every summer, but that place is getting way too crowded and expensive. I think from now on I’ll bring my family here instead. I very much enjoyed myself.

Rented the "Brown Cabin". Ample room for 12 people. Everyone enjoyed themselves, had plenty of space which allowed opportunies for quiet time as well as family togetherness. The goal is to leave everyone begging for more. Goal accomplished!

A remote, throw back camp location our rowing organization used for a 3-day camp. Lots of extra activities like kayaks, paddle boards, fire pit, etc. they even had a closet of games and a neat museum of throwback items.

Lovely place to stay. It's usually cool here but we stayed when it was Soaring hot. Fan in the window & we brought our own fan, but no AC. Comfortable king bed, 2 twins pushed together. Still I slept great. Just needed a place to stay & this was a just the ticket!

The Fountain Point Resort was once a bustling place. I have stayed here 3 times. It is sad to see it's decline. The staff us still good, the location good, things are clean...it is just that there are no extras.|Back in the day, they had live music throughout the season and some form of breakfast....now they have nothing. Coffee via Keurig only.|They do have paddle boards etc for you to use, which is great but I hate to see the property just "sit there" They have all the equipment to serve breakfast but don't. Even the museum in site is closed up. |So sad...|
