Awesome!! An oasis of fresh air, nice, cozy rooms, in a beautiful garden, a on a little hill in friendly Kumily. The owners are very very nice and helpful. And, there is a kitchen, fridge, a selection of basic spices available for all, which allowed us to cook something ourselves from all the local vegatables. If you are lucky as we were, you will see friendly langur monkeys jumping around the surrounding trees and eating leafs. I came here during a holiday to India and it really felt like a holiday within a holiday. I can only recommend it to anyone!

Wonderful, peaceful, clean and quiet. Jaya and Claus are great hosts. Drinking water from tap, relaxing places to read and write and close walk to the center. A highlight on our journey through the Westghats

We really loved staying at Claus garden! The house and the garden are absolutely stunning. There is no breakfast but you will have access to a huge shared kitchen where to cook so that was good for us. The atmosphere was super relaxing and totally worth the trip!

We extended our stay at Claus Garden from two to three nights to give us a rest day during our 2 weeks in India. Claus and Omana were warm hosts, and the room configuration was ideal: we had a big room and our adult daughter had an equally spacious room, sharing a squeaky-clean bathroom. The guesthouse has its own well so you can drink water out of the tap. Our room opened onto a balcony over the garden where we enjoyed the many blooming plants and were entertained by the antics of a troop of monkeys playing in the trees. Breakfast cost extra but was very much worth it...we didn't need to eat lunch. It featured Claus' homemade sourdough bread as well as homemade jam, homemade peanut butter, a sort of cream cheese made from the cow next door, coffee made with beans from the garden, and fresh local fruits. We also had eggs from the hens next door. It was an easy walk down the hill to the middle of town with all sorts of interesting shops, vendors, and other restaurants. I was surprised to learn many people stay only one night while visiting Periyar nature park...this place is well worth a longer stay. You do hear some sounds from town but with the fan going, we found it didn't bother us. Claus set up a cooking class for us to attend which was fun, and they provided a comfortable place for our driver to stay.

We had a lovely 2 night stay in Claus garden, the rooms are super clean, you can drink filtered water from the tap and the garden is great for the kids to wander around. They are super supportive in suggestions what to do and can book tickets for you. The breakfast with home made German bread, peanut butter and marmalade is delicious! An absolute recommendation! Unfortunately TripAdvisor page says the place is full : it is not! Plse adjust this using correct information!!!|

Our favourite place so far in our 10 week trip around India! A beautiful house in idyllic gardens. So clean, you eat your dinner off the floor! Everywhere was perfect with great wall hangings and character. Claus's home made breakfast is a real treat and his care and attention of his guests is outstanding. Great location, 5 mins walk from local shops and restaurants. 10 mins from Periyar Tiger Reserve - which was an absolute waste of money!! Thank you Claus!
