Gangtok Tara's Urban Homestay

My husband and I stayed with Tara once for 3 nights an then again for 3 nights after we returned from a tour of North Sikkim. We really enjoyed our stay here. Rooms are clean and comfortable and the view from the communal lounge really is incredible. Tara is an extremely kind and sweet lady. We are both vegan and she went out of her way to prepare us some amazingly delicious food. Both Tara and her husband Manoj work in the travel industry and so were able to assist us with booking our North Sikkim tour as well as getting to Darjeeling. They are both very knowledgable about the local area and Manoj can even help you to arrange to go paragliding!||This place is not a hotel. It is a homestay and so while you have plenty of privacy in your own room, Tara's family also live in the building. For us, this was great and a far more local and authentic experience than staying in a hotel. To get into town you can either walk up the hill and catch a taxi or catch a taxi up the hill and then change onto another. Either of these are easily do-able and very inexpensive. ||We are so grateful to Tara and Manoj for taking such good care of us.

Wow, what a treat. Tara is an amazing host, so dedicated, kind and caring. We felt like part of the family. This is a true homestay experience, you will be staying in someone's home, amazing. Tara and her husband went out of their way to ensure we had the best time possible in Sikkim. They both work in the travel industry so are great contacts to have when deciding what to do in the area. Tara's husband has so many contacts to answer any questions you may have for activities in the area. It felt like it was their purpose to make us as care free as possible. The food was first class. The rooms comfy and clean. The communal area a real surprise and we spent a whole day relaxing their. I would recommend this place to friends and family in a heartbeat.

I traveled solo to Sikkim in Dec 2019 and stayed at Tara's. This was my first leg of the Sikkim travel and it could not have started off better!! Tara and Manoj are such lovely people, I felt at home the moment I walked in. Tara served hot chai as soon as I arrived on a cold rainy winter night in Gangtok, and soon after followed my first ever Thali - oh, Tara's food is so full of love and warmth, I miss it a lot even now- simple food, but so full of flavours, its mindblowing! They have a lovely view, which I saw the next morning. And their lounge area on the first floor adds a lovely warm feeling to the place. Their home is away from the hustle & bustle of MG Marg, which was a blessing. They are all one needs to know in Gangtok - Manoj filled me in with his adventures as a Sikkim tourism expert, and I didnt want the story-telling to stop. They work very hard to meet the needs of their customers, this was evident when Manoj walked with me to get a local SIM card, when he helped me plan the rest of my travel in Sikkim - from my tour guide+driver to the places to stay - his recommendations were spot-on, when Tara gave me a hot water bag as I was struggling to cope with Gangtok's cold weather and when Manoj narrated to me about their lives, his passion for travel, such beautiful conversations at all times.. I wish them the very very very best in everything they wish for - because it was truly because of them that I have left a part of me in Sikkim. Manoj is an expert in all things Sikkim and the north east - I am already planning my next trip to this wonderful part of India with his guidance. I know that I will not stay elsewhere in Gangtok - since I now have a home in yours. I love you both Tara & Manoj!

Tara's Urban Homestay was recommended by a friend of us who had visited Sikkim in Nov 2017. On hindsight we now know how valuable our friend's tip was, because we do not have to look anywhere else if we make another trip to Sikkim!! ||We were 4 of us (2 couples) , all senior citizens. Tara Chetri the owner and the kind hostess looked after all our needs including minor ones and went the extra mile to see we are comfortable. The rooms were neat without being flashy, general hygiene very good in the rooms, dining hall and the kitchen. Being vegetarians we had apprehensions if we get at least basic vegetarian food in Sikkim. Finally it turned out to be an unnecessary worry because Tara saw to it that we were served delicious Veg.food both in the morning and in the night (we all had lunch outside amidst our site-seeing). Even when we made last minute changes in our itinerary due to inclement weather in Lachung, an alternate plan was worked out to our satisfaction.quickly. All in all a very nice stay made very pleasant by the hostess and her staff and family members.

One of the finest homestays in Gangtok. The owner Tara is a warm and welcoming person. Beautiful location out of the main town. The sitting area with wonderful hill view is perfect for some eveing adda. Traditional food served with love made our stay with them a memorable one. Rooms are neat and clean with full attention paid to minute details. Overall a very good experience.

I am from Hyderabad and that was my first ever solo trip. The experience was made even more pleasant at Tara’s with such warm and homely treatment that i still miss the lovely memories i had with the entire family ! Her amazing food, the conversations on her husband Manoj’s travel experiences, their dog Hachi and another traveller from france, Terry, have altogether made my stay most memorable to which i am thankful for !

Tara's Urban Homestay was a surprice, but a little bit outside from the main road and downhill, but you can find it easy with google maps. Wifi works in rooms. The biggest advantages is the staff. Tara is so friendly helpfull and his husband also. We good a lot of information about Sikkim, the culture about Sikkim and backrounds. It is a good stay and the food tasteful.

Lovely place right in Gangtok town. Lovely host as well. Owner himself is an officer at tourism department, Govt of Sikkim, in adventure section so he has a huge knowledge on Sikkim tourism. Very helpful. Highly recommend for first timer in Sikkim and adventure enthusiast. Oh btw he is a paragliding pilot as well.
