Fresh Food served. Although it feels small, rooms are very spacious and more importantly it felt like an extended family and owners make you feel at home. Best place to live in. Don’t hesitate by initial looks, you will definitely enjoy here be it food or room, it is the best.

I went to this Veg restaurant, and oh my God!!! What an amazing food is provided by the sweetest lady. Food is simple without much oil or extra spice, home-cooked, prepared from locally sourced produce (some are from the lady's own home garden). I was completely blown away by the taste and the simplicity of the food. It really touched my heart! And the cherry on the cake, the view - awesome!

For the price, its highly disappointing, I was completely fooled by the high ratings. Me and my brother stayed in Riva Homestay in the first week of August 2022. I admit that, I travelled to darjelling during rainy season, which is not ideal, but I went to enjoy the unique experience that the rains bring to darjeeling. Firstly the room was quite small, which is not very easily noticed from the pictures online. It was not large enough for two people. Secondly, the room had a carpet flooring and therefore due to the high humidity during this season, it was almost always wet. The rooms are not well ventilated either, so a lot of times I found huge spiders and other bugs in the room, when I came back to it after a day of sight seeing. Riva Homestay is also quite far from the main darjeeling mall area. I honestly didn't know darjeeling gets really dark only 20 minutes from the mall area, so it was quite a shock when we walked back to the homestay in complete darkness. As it was the rainy season, one day while coming back it started to rain quite heavily, we did have umbrellas so we hurried back to the homestay earlier than the other days, only to find that there was no light. Assuming that there was a powercut, we had to enter the room in complete darkness. Once inside we called the owner of the homestay about the light situation and to my surprise instead of confirming it was indeed a powercut, he came back and simply switched on the fuse outside our room and we had light. I felt it was quite rude of the owner to turn the fuse off, without informing us, because we had to remain stranded in darkness for quite some time. It was incredibly frustating as we had been just caught in the rain. Breakfast at the homestay is also served quite late after 10, so even though we had the option of a free breakfast (included with the room) we could never avail it, because it becomes difficult to plan rest of day, if we start the day too late. So we always had to search for other options. There was also a water clogging problem in the bathroom, so whever we took a shower, there would always be a pool of water at out feet, which would remain there even after a whole day had passed. Some of the lights in the room were also not working. Overall I would not consider this a good experience for the price we paid for this room and it was easily the worst part of my vacation.

Situated in front of the Padma zoo so, you will not find it difficult in locating this homestay. The hosts are very generous, humble and kind people which made our journey a great one. The rooms are spacious and the view from the balcony is awesome. I enjoyed my time there.

I am so happy to have stayed at Riva Homestay. I really appreciated the way Madam treated me as a son. She took care of all my needs and was always available to help. The place is very clean and the food is delicious! I would definitely stay here again in the future. Kind Regards Asish Behera

Room is good. Good behavior of the owner. You will find 5/6 points in walkable distance from the homestay.
