Lake Kalibari Homestay

This has been the most cleanest and spacious property, located at the main road on the way to Darjeeling (just about 15 minutes from Mall Road, Glenarys). The best part is, you can see toy trains going up and down from the room itself. The view is amazing. And the terrace (for breakfast) is to die for. Also, I will have to mention their hospitality and warmth. It is as good as staying in a hotel, the kind of support we got from their staff. Big thank you :-) for making our stay so memorable

We booked for family room paying advance as demanded by the owner long back from our arrival. However, the owner failed to deliver the family room on our arrival on 22nd October. Then we stayed in 301 the double beded deluxe room ( defined by the owner) till 26th morning. As of today, the following information may be helpful for others. Room facility: 301 has a post in between in front of the wardrobe. So, it is an awkward facility to keep any bag in the lower chamber. The wardrobe as well as another wodden box were dirty and fungus infested due to lack of cleaning. The rooms do not have any intercom to contact the service person of the homestay while its reception desk have CCTV connection to all the floor. The rooms do not have the television. There is no small table in 301 and 302 (where our friends stayed) to serve food. So one has to take food on his/ her bed. The waste paper basket is small and one has to use his/her hand to lift its cover. As on today, a PVC pipe (commonly used in houses to carry electric wires) was found for hanging cloths in the wardrobe. However, it was of improper length and falls down when cloths are hanged. The rooms does not have tea bags, milk pouch, hot water flask, tray, glass tumbler. They do not have tea- coaster to cover hot tea or water. Services: To obtain services, we had to go to the 1st floor from 3rd floor, as there is no intercom. For, our rooms we got one bathing towel and one small towel. Next day we returned these towels, and in return we got one single bathing towel. For next two days, the whole family has to use the same towel as the homestay could not provide it. The firstnight we asked for heater, but the homestay could not provide it. For four nights we had to sleep in the same bedsheet. To get the standard service, one has to tell the owner, while he does not stay in the Homestay. To carry the luggage, the service boys ignores first and do the job when the owner told them after our request to him. Behaviour: The owner repeatedly says " you are our guest", but in reality he hardly cares for the guest. The service girl is good and only hope for us to get any requred service. Another two boys and the cook are rude, They simply ignored our request. Location: It is half kilometer away from Btasia loop. But it is 4 kilometer from bazar. The front road with the train line is narrow which is common in Darjeeling. From this Homestay one can not go to market or some other place unless you have a reserved car. The shared car's seats are not available from the front of the homestay. Walking is not possible as the road is narrow with an adjascent train line. Darjeeling does not have autorickshaw service or like that. Due to narrow road, atleast one hour is required to reach the market by shared Tata Sumo. It is better to have hotel in the Mall road and in general the homestays are away from the centre. Food: They have a menu and one can order from it. For complimentary breakfast, they generally provide Puri with potato curry. Alternative is sliced bread, butter with boiled egg or omlet. Some times, they give Alu- poratha and sometimes alu- motar curry. Positivity: From this homestay, one can see the Kanchanjonga range of mountains clearly. This is the only plus point.

Dont get fooled by the pictures or think that this is some kind of luxury boutique property.The family room on 4th floor with only stairs to reach. View from kanchenjunga right across apparently but was cloudy on the day we stayed, nice view of Dali monastery though; faster to reach Tiger hill in early morning than going from central darjeeling. No tv, kettle or intercom in room and difficult to reach any staff for any requirement. Zero insulation and no heating facility, absolutely freezing even in october. The train goes through right in front of the building with very loud ringing noise. Hot water was coming just in drops in the bathroom and nothing was able to be done about it. Got just 1 towel for 3 people saying it has gone for laundry. The bed and pillows were comfortable but the bedsheets and pillow covers looked dusty like they were never changed or the room was unoccupied for months. The wifi was ok. Breakfast was passable. Nothing closeby to walk around to. Book a hotel elsewhere.

Overall very bad experience. This is not homestay this is hotel, hotel owner very rude talking with us when we arrived at hotel,too much outside noise due hotel opposite to the very busy road, bathroom wasn't clean. I'll will not prefer couple to stay over here.

Don't go to this home stay in your life otherwise you will regrate your whole day. Owner is half mind said something and do something. Food is very poor and dirty smell. First they said don't pay for food after said pay for food.

One of the best homestay within affordable price in this area. Best thing is the u can enjoy homely food. This homestay sorrounded by nature so u can enjoy this nature with ur snacks.

I face very bad experience by the owner of hotel. Ive already settled the amount of hotel but, when we reached at hotel he tilf me that we didn't discuss the amount and u have to pay this amount or you can choose another hotel. Very rudely he talking to us.

A very nice place and the owner was very understanding and helpful. The food was absolutely amazing and the staff were very caring and supportive. There were minor problems here and there but am sure it will be get better.
