The Fort Mercara

If I could describe The Fort Mercara Hotel in just a few words, then I would describe it as a 'Very Very Basic' Hotel. Let's break it down: Rooms - Spacious enough for 2 people. If you have a mental picture of a room with a balcony overlooking a picturesque Coorge backdrop of lush greenery and misty hills while sipping authentic Coorge coffee... STOP RIGHT THERE! No Balcony, One window... No picturesque Coorge. Just Basic... Clean enough bed... Clean enough Bathroom... End of story! Please remember to ask them for water bottles in your room as it will be conveniently missed and will not be provided unless you ask for it. Cleanliness - Remember the word 'Basic' again and all your expectations will take a rest. Don't expect daily room cleaning. They give you a room that's clean enough (Clean enough to live but if you are a cleanliness addict, you might not like it) to begin with and that's it. You will generally find a fine layer of dust on almost everything. Staff - Friendly and they actually try their best to help you if you ask them anything. But they don't (won't) go out of their way to make your stay memorable ... Remember Basic! Lift - Remember when you were in School and you had to do a 'Show and Tell'? That's what the lift here is for. The lift is only for showing everyone that a lift exists. It doesn't work and never seen it work while we stayed there. I'm tempted to sometimes think that it's switched off on purpose... But I remember the word 'Basic' and console myself. Restaurant - At the risk of repeating myself, Basic! Not worth it... So we skipped the Mercara Hotel restaurant and just walked down to the many restaurants nearby that serve good food at affordable prices. Location - The Hotel is centrally located in Madikeri and that makes it an easy choice for those who don't want to be stuck in a remote location with no access to anything. Just a walk away from the Hotel gives you access to restaurants and nearby shops. Breakfast - Basic Guys! Sorry... But that's Fort Mercara for you... You get a limited breakfast buffet of idli, sambar, chutney, a rice item, kesari bath, set dosa and boiled egg. Skip the tea and coffee if you don't like it overtly milky. No matter how many days you stay here, you will eat the same breakfast every morning (Over and over again...). It's not going to change, don't expect it and be disappointed. Overall Ambience: I don't know if the Owner's of the Hotel want you get a 'Bat Life' experience coz the entire hotel is dimly lit. I could never understand that... The rooms are dimly lit, the aisles and passages are dimly lit, the restaurant is dimly lit. So when you step out into the open daylight, you feel your eyes take a moment to adjust and you actually experience the discomfort of a 'Bat' in daylight. Like I said, remember the word 'Basic' and you won't question it as much. Like I said... Everything about The Fort Mercara Hotel is basic. If you are looking for a place to stay, good location and not heavy on your pocket for a quick weekend getaway (provided you get a good deal that's under ₹2.3k), this is the place! It's a place you come to sleep at the end of the day after having travelled across Coorge. Don't expect too much and you'll have a good time... Expect too much and you will be disappointed.

Disappointing experience at The Fort Mercara hotel booked through Goibibo. Despite paying a huge amount, we were not provided with hot water and complimentary breakfast as mentioned in the booking details. We had to wait for hours for hot water, and even that was provided in a bucket at 9 AM, which was unacceptable. The lack of hot water disrupted our entire trip plan, and we had to cancel our scheduled activities. The hotel staff's excuse of a short circuit was not convincing, and the breakfast was also not provided due to empty vessels and lack of assistance. Given the hotel's failure to provide basic amenities, I'm extremely dissatisfied with my stay after paying a huge amount. *Rating Breakdown:* - Cleanliness: 1/5 - Service: 1/5 - Amenities: 1/5 - Value for Money: 1/5 *Recommendation:* Avoid staying here unless you want to compromise on basic amenities and service. Goibibo should also ensure that hotels on their platform provide what they promise.

Only location is good. Rooms size is good but cleanliness is average. No facilities. Staff is unresponsive and service is extremely slow. Reastaurant and food taste is below average.

It was a wonderful experience. The staff were very professional and courteous. The room was clean and very spacious. Food was good and service was on time as well. Overall a splendid experience. I look forward to visiting again.

Worst experience of my life. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. No bath towel provided, when asked they said they do not have any. Then Morning at 10 there was no water and staff are not at all concerned about this. Instead of providing hot water they are giving all kind of reasons. Forget about bath, no water even for nature calls. We waited till 11.45, still no water. We had find room in some other hotel. No respect for customers. Not worth of even a single penny.

The fort mercara was one of the worst hotel I have visited. The floor was sticky and then ten in the morning the water was not available we called the reception and they said that they were pumping the tank and also they told that it will be available after half an hour so we waited for an hour and the water was still not available so we called the reception again and they said that they were still pumping the tank so we asked for four buckets of water and then when the four buckets of water came they were ice cold. They don't even have respect for the coustomers. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone.

We had a wonderful stay. The rooms are big and clean with basic amenities. It's located in the heart of the city, and the reception is friendly. Hot water is available. If you just need a place to stay, this is a great option. The attached restaurant is good, though the soups weren't great. The fixed breakfast options are the same every day. Overall, it was worth the price we paid.
