Hotel Sammelan

My entire experience at RTDC's Sam Dhani during November 2023 was terrible. The toilets in tents weren't clean, had to repeatedly call the hotel staff to clean it and they wouldn't clean it properly. The towel bar, glass panes and accessories were either broken or fallen off inside the toilet. Everytime, we would ask the hotel staff about anything, they would say, the hotel is just opening for the tourist season in October, so it will take time for facilities to be fixed. The hotel staff weren't polite nor very cooperative. I would not recommend any tourist to stay at this RTDC hotel and would suggest they try out some of the private camps in San dunes.

Sam Dhani is RTDC property located right near camel safari point of Sam. They have ample amount of parking space. We took a package which included overnight stay, camel safari, cultural program, dinner and morning breakfast.||||As compared to their round shaped rooms i felt their tents are more comfortable. But in tents one has to walk for everything you need to their reception.There is lot of electricity fluctuation happening in this area.||||The tents are Non AC but huge but have only one power plug is only one. The fixtures are of so low quality that everything comes in your hand. They have geyser inside washrooms hence hot water is not a problem. Hopefully the linens they provided to us were clean.||||In evening around 5:30pm you can ride on camel to start camel safari from their campus to sand dunes which are present opposite main road. They take Rs.500 per extra camel. The ride is good enough to experience dunes, there is no need to take Thar desert safari which the camel guy will keep asking you.||||We came here from Udaipur. The cultural program happens in other resort named "Rojani Resort" which is approx 1 km from Sam Dhani. I would say the program is worst as compared to what we have seen from Bagore Ki Haweli in Udaipur with cheap price.||||They provide snacks and tea prior to start of cultural program. Somehow there unlimited buffet dinner was very good. The breakfast has limited menu but is good in taste. ||||Don't take any package from jeepers or camelers from this resort, it is too costly. Go out and bargain you will get best deal for same thing.||||I would not recommend to have night stay at Sam. Enjoy sunset and move back to Jaisalmer. Again there are many better options if one want to spent overnight in Sam other than this Sam Dhani.

This is one of the oldest properties at Sam. It is at an elevation and hence from the terrace you get a good panoramic view of the desert, looks spectacular at sunrise and sunset. They have both standard rooms and tents, We stayed in a standard room for 2 nights. My main aim was to visit Desert National Park and that is quite close from this place, though of course Jaisalmer city and the airport are very far.||||The staff is very good and friendly. A camel ride and Rajasthani cultural programme and dinner at Rosani Resort was included in the room rent every night. Though we did it one night and didn't feel like repeating the next night, so they cooked dinner for us at the hotel only in the same price. Will definitely recommend the place.

I won't say that the hotel and services and food were bad. This is exclusively for the harassment which I faced as a woman. One of the employees (a senior person) had asked for a picture with me when I had gone to the restaurant for breakfast (I was the first person there)..I had assumed very naturally that he wants a picture with the tourist so I had posed for a picture. He also wanted to take a selfie..while taking that he suddenly kissed me on the cheek...I had immediately shoved him off and when I was leaving he asked me to call him up at night and said " pappi Dena pyar karna mujhe ha?" Would like to mention that since it's a desert area me and my mother had decided to keep a phone number of one of the employees for emergency purposes the previous night. This man had volunteered for it and I had typed my number in his phone for that purpose. He had called me up that night twice but I didn't pick it up.||So I panicked and escaped without having my breakfast. I had sore throat and could not shout for help so I did not slap or raise my voice at him out of fear for my own safety. Then my parents went for breakfast and I locked myself up in our room. After a few minutes the man came and started knocking and asked to open up. Then I called my parents immediately and after they returned I told them about the incident and then we asked the receptionist manager to delete my photo from his phone. While deleting we saw pictures of other female tourists on his phone...which he had clicked without their knowledge.||I had written a complaint to RTDC whose picture I uploaded here. I was asked to also delete the picture of the complaint and was assured that they will take steps against him. I don't believe that such actions will be taken. We were also told that these people do not bother about such complaints. ||My point is...if these people are not controlled then how can we female tourists ever feel safe...even when we are not travelling solo? Taking selfie with tourists or local people is a very normal thing nowadays when we travel. But to prey on unaware tourists like this...RTDC should ensure that they keep safe and reliable employees under them. Me for example I felt very angry when he kissed me but I didn't retaliate because I couldn't trust the other employees in the hotel at that point. I had to remove myself from that position as delicately as I could. I had the presence of mind to not open the door as soon as it was knocked. But not every woman will anticipate that.||This should not happen to anyone else. A mere sorry is not enough.

We stayed here on 25th December, 2019. Excellent property. Behavior of the staffs are polite and helpful. We booked two tents for our family. They provided extra blankets for us. Even my 72 years old father could not feel cold. Food was nice. They arranged camel safari and on campus cultural programme.

We stayed for a night during our tour of Rajasthan in Dec 2010. We were a group of 4 families. It was a inexpensive place with basic rooms with attached bath. Hardly any other facility. They serve simple local cuisine in a small restaurants. However the staff was extremely warm. You can try if you are traveling on a budget.

we stayed here for one night.we came here from rtdc moomal which hardly takes 40 mins.The road is very good.in between you will see camels.there are rooms as well as tents. we stayed in rooms which were round shaped.The room is very clean as well as the toilet.But there was no hot water.The weather was very pleasant.we booked this online for 3 persons for 4000.but on arriving they told us that we have to pay 1500 for the third person along with GST and 4000 is only for two persons.i found this a bit odd but had to pay.they should have charged this price online.otherwise everything is good.They gave us a good lunch for a reasonable price and the quantity was huge for 3 people.The breakfast was also good.The best part was the camel ride and the rajasthani cultural programme in the evening at rosani resort with snacks and dinner.This is all included in the hotel room rent.However the camel ride people expect some tips and insist on taking you further in the Thar.The programme and the dinner is very nice and we enjoyed it.after dinner they drop you at sam dhani.From the sam dhani terrace you can see the whole desert and camels and sunset.it is very nice.since we went on a full moon night the desert looked beautiful.

It is conveniently located. Appearance from interior and exterior of the hotel was good-looking.The staff is good, professional and quick in service. Check-in and check-out process was smooth. Room allotted to me was comfortable with all basic amenities provided in working condition including washroom was neat. They provided hot water facilities. The hotel management organised activities and it was good.
