Shankara Guest House

Advantage - Proximity to Sri Ramanashramam, just walkable. Quite, cool place though not far from main road. If you are here during off peak months, you get it for a very cheap price for a long duration. Option to wash/dry your own clothes etc, out there as if staying if a house. Its a homely feel. One can hear lot of birds/squirrels, peacock sounds most of the time. I see lot of non-Indians staying here. We stayed with our two kids, but I guess it suits more for others. But recommend to any. ||Disadvantages - Very basic amenities, as its a guest house and not a hotel as such. Carry your towels etc. if you prefer to have it very clean. I had trouble getting hot water properly in the early hours etc. Good way is to tell the management (sits at the shop on the main road) in advance on all your needs. Not much proper eateries very nearby.

Rooms are clean and hygiene, 24/7 water supply and room service, Nice view from the rooms, It is near near to the Arunachelashwara Temple.

We stayed at Shankara Guest House for a few nights in January and enjoyed our time there. We had stayed for the previous 5 nights at a more expensive hotel in Tiruvannamali and when we moved to Shankara we wished that we had stayed there the entire time. Our room on the second floor overlooked the garden from which we could see peacocks, monkeys and squirrels. The room is quite basic but the beds are comfortable and the wi-fi is good. The guest house is in a quiet location close to Ramana Ashram and there are plenty of shops and restaurants nearby. The manager, Shiva, was very friendly and helpful. He drove us to Katpadi train station when we left early in the morning and was an excellent driver. Would recommend this guest house to travelers wanting an inexpensive place to relax and chill out while visiting the sacred mountain of Arunachala.

Shankar and Shiva are very nice, they help as much as they can. They help organise traveling with taxis or other what can be needed. Rooms are very nice and are wort this price. The guest house is located in very quiet place with a garden. They have also separate cyber-place what is found very comfortable. Reccomended :)

Facility is a room with 2 single beds and a bathroom with hot water when available. Location is off Post Office Road which makes it a quiet place to stay with lots of tall palm trees. Lots of animal life like peacocks, monkeys, squirrals, and of course dogs. ||Long-term and short-term available. Have stayed at this guesthouse now for the 4th time about 5 months each.||Cleaning services upon request. Price depends on season.

The room I had, room 4, was just not clean. It felt dirty and dust everywhere. It had an air of damp. The sheets did not smell fresh and asked them to change. There was no shower head which he said he would install but that ever happened. Maybe other rooms are better but the room I was in certainly was not.||||The owners are nice and the guest house minutes away from ramana ashram.

This is a very simple place to stay with minimal facilities. The Ramana ashram runs it free of cost for the devotees. They also offer 3 free meals a day. The food is considered as Prasad by devotees. People from every religion, and cast irrespective of their social status are welcome here. Animals share equal status with people at the ashram. I only wish they stop using dairy products and close down the dairy farm.

The old man working there is very rude and keeps asking for exstra money for tips. He clearly has some mental issues and is acting very negative and agressive. We where polite and friendly the whole time and do not understand where this attitude of him came from. Maybe he is racist against foreigners.||||The other younger man in charge there is very nice and friendly. Retire your old man and you will have a great business there
