北京南山滑雪场雪顿木屋

We have been to ski resorts in USA & Australia and this is a pretty decent resort. The ski attire & equipment for rent are very well maintained & clean. We spent 2 days on the slopes in mid Dec when it was just before the peak season (from Christmas). Not all of the slopes were open, but the machines that made the artificial snow was powerful enough to cover 3 major sections. Well suited for beginners, and especially children as the ski instructors are friendly, good with children, and effective. My boys aged 8 & 12 had never tried skiing before, mastered it in the 2 hours lesson. Good enough for them to go on their own up the ski lifts. My older one took on another lesson, snowboarding & was apt in it by the end of the 2 hour lesson. Ski pass, attire & equipment rental was 135yuen, very value for money. There were group ski lessons, but we took the private option at 250yuen. There are a handful of shops with well established brands such as North Face, as well as F&B outlets. The Mongolian lamb skewers at 3yuen was absolutely yummy as they are grilled upon purchase. A bowl of hot noodles with soup is at 25yuen. We stayed overnight in the resort, which was clean, comfortable, and new. Heating was good. Hot bath water is limited to a 40L tank (possibly sufficient for 2 persons), but it was not a problem as the tank heated the water up again to 40L in about 15 mins. Accommodation is about 500yuen. Getting from Beijing to the resort is easy; choose either the resort's private car at 400yuen or take a 1hr bus ride from Beijing at 14yuen per pax.

NanShan. I learned to ski here 7 years ago. It is a nice little ski area, emphasis on little.||||We just went again a couple of days ago. We live in Northeastern Beijing so it is convenient. Normally, if we really want to ski we will drive 2 1/2 hours North west up to ChongLi in HeBei province as the skiing is much better there.||||In NanShan it is probably 100% man made snow this year. The runs are mostly beginner trails, with 3 intermediate (any where else they would still be beginner) and one 'Black' trail. ||We tried the Black and it was a mess of ice, once was enough. The blue trails can be fun but there are a lot of people. ||Instead I spent the whole day on the mogul run which is quite good and challenging.||||Nanshan has a nice park and is popular with boarders and snowblade skiiers.||||All, in all if you just want a day out and can't be bothered with driving 2-3 hours, NanShan is good fun close to Beijing.

Good for beginners mostly and people that don't want to drive too far||This is the closest ski slope to downtown it's about a 45 minute drive from the airport area I think they have shuttle buses from the city.|I am an American and I am from the northeast but I never downhill skied there. I learned to ski here at NanShan about 9 years ago at the age of 44. So it was good enough to learn on and it held our interest for a year or so and while my son can ski circles around pretty much anybody there he likes to go there with his teenage buddies because it's close. And has a nice atmosphere there's outdoor snack shops it fits the team mentality fine.||There are a couple of "intermediate trails" several bunny trails and one black unfortunately Beijing hasn't gotten a lot of snow in the last few years so it tends to be always man-made stuff. They have a good little practice mogul area and a park area for the snowboarders. ||It gets a little bit more crowded every year and they do seem to upgrade a little bit every year as more and more Chinese learn about skiing.||It's good for a day if you're not looking for a big challenge and you don't have a time to drive the three hours up to Zhangjiakou for better skiing.|

As with most china ski resorts, the mountain is designed primarily for beginner and beginning intermediate skiiers. Other than the one advance run, all trails are fairly short and lift chairs rather slow. Skiers and snowboarders who are daring and advanced enough may may enjoy the small terrain park and practice jumps. There is also a short half pipe. Overall, the variety offered for both skiers and boarders is neat. However, as an intermediate skier, I'd prefer a mountain focused advance beginners and intermediates instead of a little of everything (the mountain claims to have three intermediate runs but the none of them are true intermediate courses, more advanced beginner). There are also intermediate and beginner mogul courses which is pretty neat. ||||Biggest plus is convenience. resort offers ski shuttle to and from beijing city for 35kaui. runs at 8:30am and returns varies times from 4:30pm - 5:30pm.

There are many benefits in staying at Shirton Lodge.||1. It is only a 10 minute walk uphill from Nandshan Ski Village. Wear shoes with non-slippery soles as the path may be icy. ||2. Rooms are CNY 680/night during CNY. It's a bit tricky to book as they can't be reached easily by e-mail. You need to call the hotel directly and it's definitely much smoother if you speak Putonghua. You need to wire 50% of the charges as deposit. If you want a confirmation, you better have a China phone number for them to send out a SMS.||3. Rooms are basic, quite clean and spacious. There are two 4'×6' double beds that are firm but not too hard. The beds, put side by side, are just big enough for my family with 2 adults and 2 older children age 12 & 14 to sleep comfortably.||4. Breakfast is CNY 35 a set with a big sandwich of egg and ham. Also included is a packet of cereal and a packet of soda crackers. Self-serve drinks. It was not appealing but tasted better and filling. Service was slow. We got a bit impatient as we were eager to go skiing. So once was enough. We had snacks and instant noodles for breakfast after that.||5. Wonderful dinner served at the same hotel restaurant. We ordered dishes one evening and the second night, hotpot and other dishes plus a few beers and drinks. The food was really delicious on both occasions. There wasn't a dish we didn't like. It was very reasonable at no more than CNY 70 per person.||6. As a hotel guest, we had the special privilege to book our ski passes the day before at a good discount. CNY 450 during high season for CNY 275. So with a discount of CNY 175 × 4 persons = 700, we practically stayed there for free! Where else on earth can you get a better deal at a ski resort?!

There are two accommodation options at Nanshan, with a new hotel in the planning stages. The Norwegian Villa's look perfect for small groups and families staying a few nights for skiing and all the other fun stuff to do at Nanshan.||I stayed at Shirton Inn, which is about 580 RMB for a double room per night (not per person). The rooms are well appointed, with clean bathrooms, a lovely balcony with great views of the ski slopes and pond. There is a restaurant and I think they had room service. Booking is very difficult, off season there are few staff and this hotel can not be booked on Ctrip or other booking sites. I emailed Sales department and was able to book but it was a bit uncertain. ||I arrived in the late afternoon by taxi, I was dropped at the ski village, but the accommodation is up the hill a long way. Try to get additional directions when you see the entrance to the Village retail plaza (where the ski tickets etc are sold). Basically you need to continue straight along the driveway that you drove in on and at the t-intersection turn right then right again into the car park (which is sign posted) and from there it is short walk to the hotel reception (which is around the other side of the largest building - it contains the hotel restaurant as well.||||You need to do all the ski hire and purchase of tickets etc from the ski village. You can walk there downhill on a small path which runs alongside some of the snow play areas.

Nanshan is only an hour from Beijing, which is great for a short trip. The lifts and facilities are all new, and organized. Priced well with options to only hit the slopes for and hour or two if like me it is something you are doing before a flight back home, Not too much elevation, but nice terrain Parks and variety for a short bucket list day.||||I had a great time, and where else can you get noodles for lunch?

We've been here two times now. The first time was on spring festival and it was great because hardly no people were here. The second time was on a normal Saturday and it was not so god anymore. We had lots waiting time: for the parking space, the tickets, the equipment and always for the lifts. The slopes itself are okay, but just too short for all this waiting time. The good thing is really the short way from Beijing...but if u want to really go skiing, you better accept a little longer way.

我们已经来过这里两次了。第一次是在春节，感觉很棒，因为这里几乎没有人。第二次是在一个正常的星期六，但情况不再那么糟糕了。我们有很多等待时间：等待停车位、门票、设备以及电梯。斜坡本身还可以，但对于所有等待时间来说太短了。好处是离北京确实很近……但如果你真的想去滑雪，你最好接受稍微远一点的路。
