Wuxi Dangkou Scholars Hotel

Wuxi Dangkou Shuxiang Hotel is situated in Dangkou Old Town, quite a distance away from the city. To get there from the high speed train station Wuxi East Station, take bus 710, only at RMB2 per person, the journey is about 25-30 minutes, but the interval between buses can be from 30-50 minutes. Please refer to the photo of the bus schedule I posted. We entered from the entrance where KFC was located, turned left. Get admission tickets from the Tourist Center. For hotel guests, admission is free, but need to get tickets either from the hotel front desk or at the Tourist Center. Ask them for direction to the hotel. The surrounding environment was very quiet, perhaps it was because we went during off peak season. At the hotel lobby, there was a coffee machine, a basket of fruit, biscuits and sweets. As there were only two floors, there was no elevator. We booked a twin sharing room. This was a very authentic ancient Chinese style hotel, there wasn’t any gym nor swimming pool. But the room was equipped with modern amenities, like, an electric kettle, a hair dryer, hot shower, shampoo, towels, etc. The shower has hot water, which I found was too hot for me; whichever direction I turned the tap, the temperature of the water was the same. However, my friend found it just right for her. For WIFI to be on, the TV had to be switched on, or on standby mode. WIFI in the room was strong. There was no fridge in the room. We stayed two nights, and had breakfast at the hotel. Food was not fantastic, Chinese food was okay, but bread was not great. To get to downtown, we took a bus. Buses 708 and 712 go to downtown and the Railway Station, but the journey was more than an hour. Taxi fare would cost more than a hundred yuan. Bus fare was only 2 yuan per person. We paid 120 yuan on taxi fare from Yuan Tou Zhu Park to Dangkou Old Town. My recommendation is, stay one night at this hotel, then move on to the city and stay at downtown area, where getting around would be easier and much cheaper. Dangkou Old Town occupies a very small area, so there was no need to stay more nights. We had a little episode during our stay. The housekeeping staff left our room out when they cleaned the rooms. It was night when we got back to our room the next day after spending the whole day out. We had a shock when we opened the door. The room was in the state where we left in the morning! Nothing was done! There was only one staff on duty at the front desk. We were not happy with how she handled the situation. But after speaking to her, she finally recommended that we move to another room on the same floor, close to our original room. This helped our moving quite a bit. |This incident did not affect my feelings about the hotel. I would still recommend this hotel to anyone who wish to experience a more authentic type of Chinese hotel with modern amenities. A note, do not expect too much service.|

无锡荡口书香酒店位于荡口古镇，距市区较远。从高铁无锡东站乘坐710路公交车，票价2元/人，车程约25-30分钟，但发车间隔可达30-50分钟。请参考我发布的巴士时刻表照片。我们从肯德基所在的入口进去，左转。从游客中心获取门票。对于酒店客人，免费入场，但需要在酒店前台或游客中心领取门票。向他们询问前往酒店的路线。周围环境很安静，可能是因为我们去的时候是淡季的缘故。酒店大堂有咖啡机、一篮子水果、饼干和糖果。由于只有两层楼，所以没有电梯。我们预订了一间双人房。这是一家很正宗的中国古风酒店，没有健身房，也没有游泳池。但房间里配备了现代化的设施，比如电热水壶、吹风机、热水淋浴、洗发水、毛巾等。淋浴有热水，我觉得对我来说太热了；无论我把水龙头转向哪个方向，水温都是一样的。然而，我的朋友发现这很适合她。要打开 WIFI，电视必须打开或处于待机模式。房间里的无线网络信号很强。房间里没有冰箱。我们住了两晚，在酒店吃早餐。食物不是很好，中国菜还可以，但面包不是很好。为了去市中心，我们乘坐公共汽车。 708、712路公交车到市中心和火车站，但车程都在一个多小时。打车费要一百多元。公交车票价仅为每人2元。我们从鼋头渚公园到荡口古镇打车费120元。我的建议是，在这家酒店住一晚，然后前往市区，住在市中心，那里的交通会更方便，也更便宜。荡口古镇占地面积很小，不需要多住一晚。我们在住宿期间发生了一些小插曲。客房服务人员打扫房间时把我们的房间留在了外面。在外面度过一整天后，第二天回到房间时已经是晚上了。当我们打开门时，我们都震惊了。房间还是我们早上离开时的状态！什么也没做！前台只有一名工作人员值班。我们对她处理这种情况的方式不满意。但在与她交谈后，她最终建议我们搬到同一层楼的另一个房间，靠近我们原来的房间。这对我们的搬家很有帮助。 |这件事并没有影响我对酒店的感受。我仍然会向任何希望体验更正宗的中国酒店和现代化设施的人推荐这家酒店。请注意，不要期望太多服务。|

Very nice hotel in a special environment.Nostalgic design and furnitures. The ancient town is also worth to visit.
