Jen Kunming By Shangri-La

香格里拉酒店旗下，现代亚洲特色、适应年轻化、社交化的新品牌酒店。总体还不错。但房间的一些硬件设施设备，很不符合大众的使用习惯。例如：客房门后面没有门吸，这就导致进门时必须一边推着门，一边又去拖拉行李；办公桌椅不匹配，桌子矮、椅子高，使用起来很不舒服，同时整个办公桌区域竟然没有插座；卫生间的垃圾桶是需要脚踩开盖的，这使得住客丢垃圾还需要多一个动作步骤，起身先转身把垃圾桶踩开，才能扔垃圾，非常讨厌的设置。

Booked a five-night stay recently based on the trust of the Shangri-la brand. Overall, it is OK because we were mostly out and about, but not the usual Shangri-la experience. ||Location—geographically it’s within city centre, probably thirty minutes’ drive from train station, airport, and all major tourist attractions. The metro station is right downstairs. However, it’s not great for tourists because there is almost nothing on the street if you want to take a stroll. 5 five-minute walk to the old Kunming hotel and Holiday Inn, maybe another few minutes’ walk to the Kunming Plaza 66. Purely walk, nothing much to see. ||The room—There are three different room types. I booked the Jen Cozy type on Shangri-La’s official website and asked for a high-floor room. Upon arrival, we were told by the receptionist that the high floors are undergoing renovation and will be noisy, so we had to stay on a lower floor. Furthermore, the room size and fixtures are the same for the Jen Now type and Jen Cozy. The two things to justify the nearly double room rate are: 1) a few drinks in the mini bar and 2) a bag of free wet wash laundry. The hotel's fee is CNY 99 for it. However, I had to ask reception to take off from the final bill besides of my additional laundry bills. The room is functional but very small for more than one person. The wash basin can not even fit into the bathroom. The sofa is impractical for that room size. It’s better to have two separate chairs with a tiny table in between. If so, at least two people can sit together. Not one on the uncomfortable sofa and another one have to sit on bed. The shower head was not set up at a right angle. We had to put something to make sure it doesn’t move with water pressure. ||F&B—called room service and had breakfast downstairs. Room service came in boxes like street delivery. We have been told that our room rate does not include any breakfast, and because of our long stay, the hotel cannot give us any free breakfast. It’s Ok, and we bought breakfast vouchers from the Shangri-la membership club with a little bit of a discount. Breakfast has enough offerings to suit the domestic market but is slightly lacking for international tourists. Ordered five poached eggs in total on three different mornings, and only one came out all right. The coffee machine coffee is a shame for a province that claims fame for coffee. Table cleanness and culinary draws require further attention. We had to clean food crumbles and find things from another table ourselves. ||Service—The service team is friendly but gives the impression of lacking experience. Service doesn’t seem to come naturally for quite a few of them, and they seemed concerned about doing things wrong and customers may take advantage of the hotel. However, special credit goes to the lady who carries a basket and cleans the breakfast area and the wellness centre team. They served with smiles and a willingness to help. ||Furthermore, we experienced construction noise from the above floor and next-door building. Also had short time power cutoffs. | |Overall, I think it’s a functional hotel for travelling workers who have things to do with nearby government departments. But for tourists, especially international ones, maybe there are better alternatives.

Love the hotel! I’m super happy that I chose this hotel. It’s very new, clean, and beautifully designed with a great focus on details. Even the staff dress looks nice.|The location is superb, just next to the metro line and well connected to key points.|The staff are so kind, friendly and welcoming.|The breakfast is amazing with lots of fresh and delicious foods.|The best thing is the gym. I stayed in so many luxury or upper scale hotels. I say this hotel’s gym is the top tier, with spacious rooms, best facilities and clean air. |And I can’t believe the room rate is so good. It’s really value for money!!

I have been there with my girlfriend for a little less than a week and we had an excellent stay. In three weeks I've been to 4 different hotels in Kunming including luxurious ones like the Grand Hyatt and Sofitel. To me Jen by Shangri-La is the second best after the Grand Hyatt. ||The staff is very friendly ! The rooms are comfortable, the subway station couldn't be more close to the hotel it's litterally just next to the exit.||The gym is the best of every hotel I've been to with a friendly coach. The swimming pool is also very good and well decorated.||Overall I don't have any complaints I recommend strongly if you are searching for a high quality stay not far from the city center.

New hotel with functional rooms. Located next to a mrt station, provides easy access to anywhere in Kunming including airport. Great gym and indoor pool facilities. Has excellent service teams to help whatever you need. Always accommodating and always fulfilled the promises. Great team work.

The service at this hotel is excellent, and the staff are very friendly. When I had a finger cut, the front office team promptly assisted me with a bandage, showing great attentiveness. The breakfast offers a wide variety of options, and the chef and staff go the extra mile by bringing additional food to the table. The hotel is conveniently located right next to a metro station and just a short distance from the largest night food market. Highly recommended!

My friends & us stayed at Hotel Jen for only a night to catch our flight home after our travel in Lijiang. I was so heartened that the manager on duty - Kristin came personally with the driver to meet us at the railway station, really appreciated that. We booked the 2 rooms with an external connecting door which I have not seen in other hotels but it is such a good design idea. only thing is - can I suggest - can you put a door stopper for these rooms only so that the opened door can be held in place. This would allow easy interaction for the occupants of the 2 rooms. the room was very pleasant, comfortable with nice detailing and the work desk is good for working with a wooden stand for the mobile phone and ipad. The breakfast was fantastic - it had a very nice wide selection of western and chinese food of good quality. A staff walked around the tables with some freshly baked bread - we were pretty thrilled about that and had a try. it was very good. We enjoyed the hot soya milk and cantonese congee the most! pity it was only for 1 night, would have loved to stay longer.

Racist staff who make you feel extremely unwelcome. A reception manager actually took photos of me while I was examining the cafe menu situated adjacent to the reception, so that he could share with others. Constant staring, speaking to colleagues behind my back and giggling away - they are not intrigued by my presence, instead despise it. Absolutely pathetic. No wonder China is considered third world.

种族主义员工让你感觉极不受欢迎。一位接待经理竟然在我浏览接待处隔壁咖啡馆菜单时拍下了我的照片，以便分享给其他人。他不停地盯着我，在背后跟同事说话，还咯咯地笑——他们对我的存在不感兴趣，反而鄙视。真是可悲。难怪中国被认为是第三世界国家。
