With a 13-hour layover at the Kunming airport, we decided to accept the offer of the locals who were waiting to offer a shuttle service and a hotel room. It was a good decision. The minivan shuttle service was reliable. The hotel is close to the airport. The staff at the hotel speak very little English but they were friendly and helpful. The beds were extremely firm (hard) but we were exhausted so they worked. The shower was amazing, which is important on a layover. You can close the door and turn the bathroom into a steam room with a long hot shower. That was so refreshing. |Two of us went for a walk around 1-2am and the area seemed safe enough, and there were places to find food. We shared a good bowl of noodle soup for 10 yuan, or about US$2. Overall, the hotel is all you would want for a short stay, and it allows you to see a little bit of town.
