Chengtao Xiaozhu Folk Inn

I brought my elderly parents to stay for a night. I booked a family room for three pax. Prior to the stay, we had email exchanges and the response from the inn was fast. We were also happy the owner had arranged for an experienced and friendly driver to pick us up from our hotel in Beijing (because it wasn’t cheap). The ride was pleasant though it took us 3 hours to reach. It would be 2 for non peak season. The inn was simple but homely and the owner and her family who stayed there were welcoming. They cooked well too and we enjoyed all of their home cooked dishes. They even had homemade wine and strawberry jam which i would recommend anyone to try. The owner understood we had to catch a train in Beijing the following day and helped us arranged for the driver to pick us up early morning. She was really helpful and ensured that our needs were met. Of course, we felt there was room for improvement - the room should come equipped with toilet papers (I believe it is available if you asked the owner for it) and towels. The heater should also be available (it was there but just didn’t feel that the water was warm). Nevertheless, it was really a very enjoyable stay.

我带着年迈的父母来住了一晚。我订了一间三人家庭房。入住前，我们进行了邮件交流，旅馆的回复很快。我们也很高兴业主安排了一位经验丰富且友善的司机从北京的酒店接我们（因为它并不便宜）。尽管我们花了3个小时才到达，但旅程还是很愉快的。非旺季的话是2。旅馆很简单，但很温馨，住在那里的主人和她的家人都很热情。他们做饭也很好，我们很喜欢他们所有的家常菜。他们甚至还有自制的葡萄酒和草莓酱，我会推荐任何人尝试一下。老板知道我们第二天要赶火车去北京，就帮我们安排了司机一大早来接我们。她真的很有帮助并确保我们的需求得到满足。当然，我们觉得还有改进的空间——房间应该配备卫生纸（我相信如果你向主人要的话是可以得到的）和毛巾。加热器也应该可用（它在那里，但只是感觉水不热）。尽管如此，这确实是一次非常愉快的住宿。

My husband and I were looking for a more remote section of the great wall to hike and wanted to stay near the wall instead of using a tourist bus for a day trip. This was exactly what we had hoped for and more! They arranged transport for us to and from Beijing at a fair price. It is a very comfortable place to stay, and although the bed was firm, it was the best too nights of sleep I got during our trip. We had breakfast and dinner at the Inn and she packed us lunch to take on our great wall hike. The food is AMAZING! they offered a variety of meat and vegetable dishes at dinner and each one of them was fantastic. The unrestored section of the wall is just up the road, ~20 min walk and you are standing on a tower of the great wall. Our second morning they drove us to Jinshanling section and we hiked back to the inn. It took about 7 hours, 5 if you dont take as many photos as we did! I highly recommend this Inn, the owner speaks great English and her family is warm and welcoming. We will return for another stay one day!

Angela took good care of me during my stay. I was traveling alone and for the first time in China, plus it was dark upon my arrival so it was little unnerving to arrive in Gubeikou town at night. (no lights, no stores, and few neighbors)|But the host and driver were great, the room was simple- clean bed, has a shower/toilet all-in-one type of situation, but it does the job!|You can request your meals throughout the day and they will cook for you. Breakfast was 20Y, and the rates went up from there for lunch/dinner.|Best part is you do not need any transport from this location to reach the Great Wall. Take a 25-30 minute hike through the trees and reach the Great Wall. Walk about 5 hours towards Jinshanling and finish there! (From Jinshanling you will need transport back home!)|Great experience for a solo traveler.

If you want to have a good comfortable stay with friendly hosts and a very close location to a part of the unrestored wall of the Gubeikou Great Wall then this is the place to be. The family who are running the place will make you feel very welcome. |The lady of the house speaks good English and compared to many other places the communication works very well. She even arranged a driver for us who picked us up from our hotel in Beijing. ||You can choose to have breakfast, lunch and dinner on site. The food is delicious and freshly made out of their own garden. There is enough variety every day and the price is reasonable, especially for what you are getting. The rooms are basic but I found the mattress more comfortable then other 'home stays' I have been to. The shower has warm water and there is an aircon in the room. There is no kettle. Wi-fi is available and works perfectly throughout the whole property.||The accommodation is less then 10 minutes walk from the entrance of the wall. You have to pay 25 yuan pp and the ticket is valid for two days to access the wall. The old village of Gubeikou is quite an attractive little place and is about an hour walk away by using the main road. It also can be reached by using the Great Wall, just follow it to your left. Leave the wall when you have reached the big gate with the building on it. Obviously this will take a bit longer depending on your walking pace. ||Also, if you follow the wall to the left in less then two hours you will reach a military base. From here it is not possible to go further on the wall. You can detour this base but the wall at Jingshaling is closed for renovation at the moment so you have to return the same way. ||There are some little shops in Gubeikou where you can buy some basics, like fruit and drinks. ||If you want to experience real Chinese life in a rural area close to The Great Wall this is definitely a very good place. |Highly recommended. |||

天空晴朗，晚上周边很安静，睡觉很舒服，睡醒了有难得的头脑清醒感。客栈附近景点不多，主要是残长城，如果你喜欢看长城体验自然，住在这里很方便，走路八九分钟就能看见长城，晚餐后散步也感觉很舒适，完全远离都市的喧嚣。客栈主要以家常菜为主，蔬菜几乎是自家地里产的，我们还亲手摘了点，能体会到粒粒皆辛苦的感觉。老板烧了一手好菜，老板娘称自己就是被老板和自己妈妈喂胖的。他家小女儿也很可爱，下次我会带我女儿来和她一起玩。

老板娘一家人都很热情，认认真真经营。菜很不错,味道也不错！都是自己啊小院种的，很干净。尤其是鱼，连着要了两次。我们去的时候还有几个老外，他们连饺子也能点到。很卫生，我们是周末走的最晚的一家，老板娘的家人早就把其它客人的被单枕巾洗好了挂在院子里，很干净。小本生意，需要自备洗漱用品。附近还有个mini水库。山里空气好 很舒服，周末休闲的好去处！离古北水镇开车一会儿就能到。

和老公一起去的，感觉挺好的。家庭式的经营模式，老板小两口挺热情。一进客房就觉得很干净舒服，有家的感觉。他家饭菜也很可口，老板炖的柴鸡不错，大家可以尝尝。这里适合小住一两天。

This place was great! Most of the food was grown on-site, and the host spoke great English. The other cool thing is that there is a crazy amount of wild pot growing around, so we dried some out in the sun and got stoned all day. the locals have no idea what it is. we came back really baked and our host fed us incredibly dank food. It was so good. also, this inn was soooooo cheap. we expected a bill 10x what we ended up getting charged, but it was like $20 for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and days worth of bottled water, tissues, etc. such a deal! We also got drunk every night at dinner and it was not expensive at all. less than $1 a beer!

这个地方太棒了！大部分食物都是现场种植的，主人英语说得很好。另一件很酷的事情是，周围生长着大量的野生盆栽，所以我们把一些放在阳光下晒干，然后一整天都被扔石头。当地人不知道那是什么。我们回来的时候真的很热，我们的主人给我们喂了非常潮湿的食物。太好了。而且，这家旅馆太便宜了。我们预计账单是最终收费的 10 倍，但早餐、午餐、晚餐以及几天的瓶装水、纸巾等费用大约是 20 美元。太划算了！我们每天晚上吃饭的时候也喝醉了，而且一点也不贵。一瓶啤酒不到1美元！
