Song Lin Hotel

My son and I decided to stay overnight at the Song Lin Hotel, as we were on the late China Southern Flight, which arrived at Changbaishan Airport at 9:30pm. The taxi fare from the airport was 100 yuan, which is way more expensive than the rate in the day, but as there were few taxi options and all drivers quoted the same price, we felt compelled to accept.||||The staff at Song Lin speak little english, but really tried to ensure that we were comfortable. The room was simple and comfortable, and had all the basic amenities expected. The check in and check out were efficient. Breakfast was served at 7am, but we were already on the way to the mountain and missed it. There was free wifi but we had trouble accessing it from the room.||||Taxis are easily available in front of the hotel.

9 hours driving. That's how long it took to get here from our start point and from what I'd been told, I was expecting little more than a box-room hotel, so when we pulled up outside I was pleasantly surprised. The hotel has something more akin to a European frontage than most places I've stayed in China, although once inside the Chinese influence asserts itself again.||||Reception isn't huge, but it is comfortable and getting our rooms was not trying at all. An elevator just off reception, right next to the staircase, took us to our floor and the ubiquitous card key system gave us access.||||The rooms themselves were decorated warmly, but not gaudily (I'd grown accustomed to cold and functional or chintzy), so this was a nice first impression. The shower/toilet facilities were simple but clean and functional and I had no problem getting a nice warm shower out of them.||||We had a twin room on this occasion and the beds were generously sized for singles and comfortable and at the time of year, with the weather cooling rapidly, the rooms stayed on just the right side of comfortable.||||The room came with a decent sized TV with a good range of channels and bottled water with the kettle, alongside the usual collection of soaps, slippers, toothbrushes etc and good, clean towels.||||So, after a long day a good night's sleep was had. So, on to breakfast.||||Breakfast was well presented and frequently topped up, although I'll admit the other guests were a little ... frenzied when it came to loading up. It was a purely Chinese style breakfast though, with dough sticks, boiled eggs, soya milk and a range of savoury and spicy foods, some of which were ok for breakfast, others a little too hot for my tastes when it comes to starting the day, but that is part and parcel of travelling in China so this is not a complaint, just an observation.||||We stayed for one night less than planned, but this is no reflection on the hotel, simply that we changed our schedule around and the two nights there were entirely pleasant, certainly comfortable and warm after long days out around Changbaishan.||||As a town centre hotel, there were plenty of local shops and restaurants nearby, so we had no problems popping out to find food to our tastes or to top up on snacks and drinks for the days ahead.||||All in all, the hotel was a good experience, not luxurious by a long way but certainly a comfortable base of operations whilst travelling.

Au premier abord, on est un peu inquiet car le personnel ne parle pas du tout anglais. Mais rapidement, les smartphones font usage de traducteur et la conversation devient étonnamment facile. Le confort de la chambre était très satisfaisant, mais le petit déjeuner un peu trop frugal (du riz gluant et des petits pains pas assez cuits, mais pas de boissons chaudes). Le service est très efficace. Nous avons même pu négocier un transfert avec chauffeur jusqu'au Parc National de Changbaishan et modifier une réservation en faisant appeler un hôtel à Shenyang par la réception. Notre court séjour à Fusong nous a paru idyllique par rapport à celui d'une semaine à Beijing.

乍一看，你会有点担心，因为工作人员不会说英语。但很快，智能手机就配备了翻译器，对话变得异常简单。房间的舒适度很满意，但早餐有点太节俭了（糯米和未煮熟的面包卷，但没有热饮）。服务非常有效率。我们甚至可以协商前往长白山国家公园的专车接送服务，并通过接待处致电沉阳的一家酒店更改预订。与在北京的一周相比，我们在抚松的短暂停留似乎是田园诗般的。
