This hotel has a quirky facade and a flower shop in the lobby, making it the best smelling lobby I've ever experienced. The staff is friendly and helpful, but somewhat clueless. They couldn't find my online reservation, and hadn't even heard of the website I used to book my stay. Anyhow, they couldn't speak, much less read, English. They asked me to cancel my reservation and pay the discounted rate, which was the same rate I'd gotten online.||||The hallway leading to my room belied the boring past of this hotel. They kept most of the trim and doors of the previous, standard-cheap-China hotel. My room stunk of putrid cigarette smoke, and not being able to reach the reception with the room's phone, I marched back down to the lobby.||||My new room didn't smell like cigarettes, but the windows wouldn't close all the way, either. There was always a micro-gap on either side if the balance was right. One, lone mosquito tried to attack me within minutes, but was dealt with accordingly.||||The room was spacious and clean. The electrical outlets were placed in odd locations. For example, it's clear from the lighting that the previous hotel used to have a table/desk in one corner, but the new ownership decided they didn't want that. Any devices you want to charge can either be left on the floor or on the nightstand.||||The bed was comfortable, but the pillows stunk of cigarette smoke.||||The staff at the front desk does shared my passport information with a Chinese woman in the lobby, who suddenly knew how old I was when we met again while I was checking out.
