桂林金水湾国际大酒店

Our tour stayed at this popular tour group hotel during our trip to Guilin. Our stay here actually consisted of 2 nights before Yang shuo and 2 nights after Yang shuo. The first 2 nights, I stayed on the 13th floor along with my other tour members. My room was spacious, clean and between a 4-5 star rating and the hallway was peacefully quiet. The breakfast is definitely a 3 star rating at best. Most of the diners are native Chinese which means noise and competitive confusion for food. At least, there was some semblance of order here as most diners do line up. However after our return from Yang shuo, I was separated from my tour group and stayed on a different floor, on the 10th whereas they stayed on the 13th again. This time, I smelled hallways laden with cigarette smoke once I step out of the elevator and the same smell entering my room. At around 11 p.m. the hallway was filled with conversational noise as lingering native Chinese tour members were engaging in loud discussion between rooms. To make matters worse, at 5:15 next morning, there was the same loud noise as they met in the hallway to go to breakfast. Frustrated by this rude awakening and could not go back to sleep I decided to wake up and wash up only to be greeted by a sewer stench from the floor drain in my bathroom. I had to keep that bathroom door closed to prevent the stench from seeping into the sleeping area. When I encountered the housekeeping maid, she said it's due to the weather condition and cannot be easily resolved and recommended that I put a newspaper to cover the floor drain when not using the bathroom! OK. So much for a 5 star rated hotel. Conclusion and tips: If you're staying here, get a room in the highest floors as they fill the lower floors with mainly native Chinese tourist. If you can, go to breakfast after the tour group rush about 2 hours after opening time.

Stayed 4 nights. Can't say we enjoyed our stay in this supposedly 5star establishment. Location, while only about 25 mins from airport, is not in a nice part of town. We were told not to wander too far from the hotel, which seemed to be popular with tour groups. And as such breakfast time is one big hassle with food and seats in short supply. Bedroom is spartan, and consists of a bed about a metre from the toilet and shower cubicles which have frosted glass doors, so privacy is an issue. As is common in a lot of hotels in China, guests do not comply with non smoking rules - our room reeks of smoke filtering in from people smoking in the corridor, and the lobby area is just as bad. Terrible.

Located some distance from the downtown area. Hotel staff were excellent but premise is older and requires updating. Cigarette smoke is everywhere. I though smoking in public area was prohibited in China. It is in Beijing. Breakfast area was a zoo each morning.||Next time we will stay closer to downtown. Beware of pick pockets when riding public buses.

距离市中心有一段距离。酒店工作人员非常出色，但酒店设施较旧，需要更新。香烟烟雾无处不在。我以为中国是禁止在公共场所吸烟的。这是在北京。每天早上早餐区都是一个动物园。||下次我们会住得离市中心更近。乘坐公共巴士时谨防扒手。

I stay at this hotel just one night during April, so the weather was good about 22-25 C. My room was in the corner that give me all glass wall and window at the 2 sides. Pretty nice because I can have wide view of the neighborhood and also fresh air. |It's also equipped with a set of old fashioned PC, not so bad with fast internet speed. Really nice to stay here...||Just beware when you move to the bed. The side bed is too high, almost same height with the mattress. As it is made of metal, not comfortable to move to the bed.||Do not expect non-Chinese breakfast...
