★★★★★Amazing views. Huge family rooms. Very clean. Several restaurants downstairs, including a Starbucks. Modern facilities. Activities beside skiing. We came in the summer but can only imagine it would be even more fun in ski season. Definitely recommend.

★★★★★We have visited Genting Grand Secret Garden Hotel at the end of November 2018. Even though some of the slopes didn’t have snow of them, the hotel itself was great. For a family with three kids, we had plenty of space in the room, the bunk beds are perfect, the bathroom is big and the room has a little kitchen. The room was very warm (we were facing the sun) and everything is new. The hotel breakfast buffet had Western and Chinese options, and several restaurants were open all day for us to stop between ski sessions and eat. The coffee pavilion at the top of the gondola is beautiful. Ski rental went smoothly, and the kids had access to a free playzone after they had enough of the cold and snow. Swimming pool was nice too, with a great view of the ski slopes, and the gym was fun because there were always a few pro skiers/snowboarders training and you could talk to them about their training (for the 2022 Olympics). The hotel also has a bar downstairs with live Chinese music. Great atmosphere over all, we enjoyed it!

★★★★We went up to Secret Garden as a family with three children 8 - 13 for a short break. The children had fun and their father got some needed exercise which means that we would go again. I'm not sure how much we paid as my wife deals with that. 3 1/2 drive on good roads from North Eastern Beijing including one pitstop.||||Our trip was after the Chinese New Year holiday but with the Chinese school holidays still on-going so there were a lot of children around. ||||In more detail:||||- the hotel was very conveniently arranged. I've skied a lot in Europe where I'm used to having to drive or walk to the bottom of the ski lifts. This was very easy by comparison which is a big positive with three fairly young children.||||- its just misleading to refer to this as a 5 Star hotel, it isn't, I'm not sure where that rating came from but it isn't. The building construction is good, the skiing is very convenient and the rooms were fine but neither the rooms nor the service nor the food were at 5 star level. ||||- rooms: clean and functional. Free WIFI. Good large bath with water that runs hot and fast which is a big plus point. Comfortable beds. Good temperature control. No cleanliness issues. Small cooking area that would enable you to prepare simple food yourself. All in all the rooms were fine but not luxurious. If you ignored the fact that you are there primarily to ski then it would be a good international standard 3 star. ||||- The swimming pool is nice although the hot pools were not working when we were there. The changing rooms were a little bit on the small side. Its a pity that the pool is completely indoor, I always enjoy an indoor / outdoor pool when skiing. ||||- We didn't use the gym but it looked good, much better than a typical hotel gym.||||- There is a LOT of unused shop and entertainment type space on the ground floor. There seems to be a mis-match in the design of the building between the number of rooms in the hotel and the amount of shop space on the ground floor. ||||- Restaurants. We ate in the breakfast / lunch buffet place, in the "Old Beijing" hot pot and in the Sichuan restaurant. All of these were fine in the context of taking three children skiing but had I had more of a romantic getaway in mind they would have been disappointing. The breakfast buffet needs to be taken up a notch - for example the waiter or waitress should find you a table and bring you your tea or coffee as they do at most breakfast buffets. Here we had to find our own table. Running out of coffee is a bit of crisis at breakfast time. Fortunately my clever wife had anticipated this and brought a coffee machine from home to install in our room. Probably the food which we enjoyed the most were the jiaozi and hundun which we bought in the ski lobby area. All in all the food was ok and would not stop me going again but moderate your expectations. When I ski in Europe the food is one of the high points of the experience, here it was not (and I say this as an 18 year resident of Beijing who loves Chinese food).||||- Ski hire and storage. Rental ski boots and skis seemed fine: I certainly had no issues with mine. The ski lobby is spacious and well organised. I've been skiing many times and this was the least work that I have ever had to do to get to the bottom of the slopes. The process might be a little confusing if you speak no Chinese but that is to be expected in China ...||||- Skiing. This was the purpose of our trip and I was pleasantly surprised. No one should expect a huge ski area but it was more than adequate for a middle aged man who was a keen skier 25 years ago and 3 children at early to intermediate stages of learning. The slopes were, by European standards, almost empty and the lift queues very short. The chair lifts were great quality and comfortable. The slopes are focussed on the beginner and intermediate skier with little that I could see to challenge an advanced skier. The snow was lovely albeit heavily manicured and flattering to those of us with less than perfect technique. ||||I hope that the various resorts in this area get their act together and build interconnections so as to provide a larger ski area rather than remaining as separated walled gardens.||||The children really loved their ski coaches. That was a big positive. ||||Some quick / easy fixes for management:||||- more chairs at the bottom of the slopes outside the hotel so that we can sit and watch the slopes whilst we wait. Better still have staff ready to serve coffee, beer and hot chocolate to people sitting in these chairs. At the moment there is one bench. Nanshan outside Beijing does this much better.||||- have staff show people to their tables at breakfast ||||- better coffee at breakfast||||- get the hot pools by the main pool working. And, if the budget allows, add some hot pools outside - there is nothing like sitting in a hot pool, looking at the stars with cold air and snow around. If you can get someone to bring me a cocktail whilst I'm in that hot pool then you will have won me over completely :-)||||- put a lift map / run map in the rooms||||- find some ways to utilise some more of the empty space on the lobby level.

★★★Stayed there a couple of times in the past few years (winter season only). Management used to be great, and staff were quite professional. They had expat GM and Management members, at least you were taken care the way you would expect from a five star hotel. But this time it was a pure disappointment…a complete reap-off. Spent 2,600 RMB for one night over Chinese New Year, plus 1,000 for full day ski package…for this price you can stay at St. Moritz’s best hotel or Kitzbuhl, and enjoy real luxury service and fantastic skiing and apre-ski. |When I checked in, the staff was so indifferent and in polite. Housekeeping poor, the breakfast un eatable for westerners. They used to have a Western Restaurant when they opened the hotel, all gone…serving hot pot now. The bar was cool with live music, now it’s a Karaoke. Really not worth the money, unless you absolutely want to stay at the foot of the ski slopes. Skiing is as usual, great. I am trying the new spot: Thaiwoo….slopes are ready but hotels are still under construction. Apparently, they have a real Austrian Chalet there…lets see. |

★★★This is one of the better spots to go skiing in China, which means it is OK at best. The snow here is almost all man made and the the terrain is pretty minor. This would be a really good spot to learn how to ski but anyone who has done skiing in North America, Europe or Japan will not find this a lot of fun. A couple hours of cruising on piste for 3-4 minute runs and you can call it a day. The hotel is alright, relatively new, but they food is mediocre. The rooms are not bad by local standards and the place is almost empty during the week so at least it isn't that busy.

★★★★This hotel is excellent. There are only some minor flaws, as well as an extreme overpricing of a 4 star hotel, to make it 5. The hotel is of excellent quality, and has everything it needs to exceed expectations. The rooms are nice, but there are just a few "mistakes" that could be rectified. For example, the shower has a design flaw where it floods the entire bathroom. The carpets are extremely dirty. There is also not enough bars of soap. On our last night stay, the hotel called us at 10pm, and asked us for an extra RMB 2000 deposit. The hotel facilities are standard. The sports bar didn't even show the SUPER BOWL. The pool area doesn't have a hot tub, which is quite annoying after a long day of skiing. The hotel has 3 restaurants, and all of them are Chinese food. On to the skiing... all the equipment was excellent. We had no issues with that. One of the only issues we had with skiing was that all the ski signs and maps were incorrect. This led to black slopes being portrayed as blue. This resort is not very well equipped to handle intermediate skiers, as there are only 2 green lines, and no path down from the top of the mountain that is easy enough. At the end of the day, this hotel is expensive, but its location right on the slopes makes it quite worth it.

★★Entry and exit to the area where these resorts reside costs total 130RMB (20$) both charged as 65rmb on entry and exit. So if you are coming with your car from Beijing, including the toll gates, you pay in total around 240RMB (40$) just to be able to access the resort, insane.||||Then 4 hours of pass including ski rental for 2 persons costs 1700rmb (300USD). Only the front desk is friendly, the rest is unwelcoming, typical for China. Rental pants and jackets were not really clean. Equipment was okay but could have been better maintained. ||||Like any other person on a ski holiday, if you look forward to having a drink at the mountain bar while watching the scenery, well don't, because they don't sell alcohol. It's the most unadult way to ensure the safety of people. ||||Base lounge restaurant is only for hotel residents with a card, if you'd like to purchase food they ask you to leave.||||So we ended up having our drinks sitting in the parking lot then left.||||It ends up being a real dull experience and overall not really fun.
