普宁寺上客堂

First off, one should know this is a hotel used by many Buddhist pilgrims coming to visit the famous Puning Temple next door, so it is a bit older and more austere, but not that much. I stayed for 5 days and although the accommodations were simple (plumbing is a bit old), the room was clean, quiet, and comfortable enough. Since it was off-season, the restaurant was not open, but the staff guided me to a small restaurant 200 meters down the road for great local cuisine. If you want all the tourist trappings, stay in downtown Chengde. If you want a more authentic (and less expensive) local Chinese experience, stay at this hotel. The staff were terrific and very kind. I loved every minute of my stay here and I will definitely be coming back!

Why this is listed as a B&B is a mystery to me. This is a hotel that happens to serve breakfast. The location is interesting. It is next door to the Puning Temple which is a great attraction to visit. However, it is in a run down neighborhood that is being demolished to, I assume, build modern housing. It is not near anything else, including food, although it is a very short bus ride or taxi to restaurants. The hotel is interesting and would be very good if it had any decent upkeep. The lobby is attractive but dark. The rooms are perfectly comfortable but very worn out. The tub leaked all over the bathroom floor each time we used the shower. This is a relative bargain and I don't regret staying there. However, keep your expectations low. Also, the Chinese buffet breakfast is an adventure.

We thought Puning Hotel was very neat and unique, being on the grounds of its neighbor temple, the Puning Temple. The decor had a lot of the characteristics of the temple - Tibetan style with many bright colors. But the rooms were very run down. We stayed in the delux suite. It was very spacious but the walls had water damage and the room smelled musty. The rooms were courtyard style, so had windows opening into the hallways. The windows were not sound proof at all. The night we were there, there were many Chinese travelers who were getting up at 5:30am. Be forewarn too that the mattresses are EXTRA firm. The night's accommodation included breakfast. It was a Chinese breakfast and was very basic. If you need something more substantial, bring it yourself. We happened to have some fruits with us, so it was perfect.||||The staff was very nice and friendly. They were very helpful.||||The temple, though a bit expensive, was worth visiting. Chengde is about a two-hour drive from Beijing and can be an easy day trip now with the highway connecting the two cities completed .

We really enjoyed our stay in the Pu Ning Temple hotel this summer. The location is only a few minutes cab ride from the downtown and the Mountain Resort. The staff was completely in costume, which was great fun, and they were very friendly and accommodating. Our room was very large with a good bathroom and plenty of suitcase space. We ate at the hotel restaurant - average food but very large portions and very reasonably priced (about 20-40RMB per meat dish). They have a show that is put on nightly and while the theatre area is a bit strange and dingy, the show itself was excellent, very much worth the 120RMB. This would be a great hotel if you have kids or are looking for an unusual experience.|

The Puning hotel is set in the grounds of the Temple of the same name, one of the great attractions in Chengde. ||||While the rooms are quite old, and the carpets definitely seem more than ready to be replaced, they are fairly well equiped. The setting is amazing. It's very quiet and, out in the courtyards and alleyways of the hotel, you can see some of the temples of Puning Temple as well as hear the monks go about their business. ||||Even in early May, the temperatures can be quite chilly in Chengde. As the rooms are not very well isolated, we've been forced to use the A/C to warm the room on more than one occasion. ||||The restaurant is quite special. It specialises in all kinds of Manchurian and Mongolian inspired game dishes as well as vegetarian "Temple food". The food is quite tasty, if a bit spicy and expensive by Chinese standards. ||The menu has photos which is great for ordering as the staff speaks very little English. Also, the main restaurant is often used for private parties and other events. This is quite alright although, as a westerner, you're guaranteed to be stared at in your corner. The real problem is that there tends to be an enthousiastic - and very loud - use of the karaoke machine with disastrous consequences for any conversation you may be trying to have. ||||On the whole though, it was a fun experience and I'd definitely recommend it to anyone trying to get away from the boring business-hotels that one usually gets in China. But be prepared to make some concessions on the comfort and service fronts.

Hotel is part of the Puning Si complex, the best of the outlying temples in Chengde. A stunning lobby, staff dressed in costume and the rooms back onto the main temple; you still have to pay to get into the temple itself.||Rooms comfortable and clean if a little old fashioned. Furniture was modern repro. Walk-in rate was 320RMB for a good double. Staff friendly and tried out their English. ||Vegetarian restaurant; the two of us were led to a private dining room served and observed throughout by three staff!||Two other key temples were within walking distance: the Xumifushouzhi Miao and the Putuozongcheng Miao (the Potala replica). Chengde itself and the Mountain Resort is an easy taxi or bus ride away.|

We stayed there with our two young children and also our in-laws from the States. Our room's carpetted floor was so gross. Curtains must have not been washed for as long as the hotel exists. Our in-laws bathroom did not have hot water. Hotel really need to do something about the cleanliness of rooms and upgrade quite a lot. Receptionists were fine. Breakfast had boiled eggs, steamed buns, baozi, peanuts, pickles, and a couple more kinds of food. The building is interesting and hotel had a show (free) between 8 and 9pm which my in-law enjoyed. There is a free parking, but space is quite limited. This is just our experience. When I was checking out, I overheard a guest from overseas complimenting this hotel to the receptionist. So there may be better rooms in this hotel.

以前是给香客准备的，但是它的早餐不是很好吃，因为感觉很一般，可能承德也是小地方，所以也比较地略比较简单，但是能吃饱了就行了，但是如果你花钱点餐的话就还不错。它的房间是一个小庭院的那种，里面有客房跟小庭院。酒店是比较奇怪的，有佛教的东西还有满族的东西，比如他们饭店里面会有狍子跟鹿肉什么的，比较塞外的感觉，每个包间还会有满族皇家的风范。服务上也会有烤全羊的现场表演，也会有舞蹈什么的。我第一次去的时候没有住在这我就觉得特别的遗憾，第二次去的话我就一定要住这边。
