东山宾馆

Good location with splendid view of the Longmen Bridge to Binyang 3 Caves along the Yi River from the tea restaurant (fourth floor) of the “fifth building”. Although it is the nearest hotel to the entrance of the Longmen Grottoes, it still have to walk about 15 to 20 minutes on foot from the lodging.Cozy and comfortable environment with plenty of fruit trees provided. However, the hotel requires modernization in some ways.

The service and scenery are amazing, you can look across the Yi River and get a great view of Long Men Grotto. The breakfast buffet has a wide array of local cuisine. In addition, every room can borrow a full hanfu costume for free. The hotel staff also provide transportation to and from train and bus stations.

This is a 5 star government guest house. We choose it because of its proximity to Longmen Grotto, walking distance. The hotel provides free shuttle to the foot of the hill where the hotel entrance is and the local shuttle will bring you to the ticket booth for RMB5 per pax. This paid shuttle also picks visitors who park their cars in one of the several car parks for the Grotto. We walked to the ticket booth across the bridge since we were out early. However, English is limited.||||The rooms are large and all the plumbing worked. The bed mattress is softer than most Chinese style mattresses. We did not eat at the hotel restaurant but prices looked reasonable. Since they cook for the state guests, the chef's cooking should be of high standard. I had a non smoking room which did not smell. They turn off the aircon at 10pm. The night was cool so I left the window opened. The hotel has quiet surroundings. ||||The hotel is 10km from the Luoyang city or RMB70 by taxi, with some bargining you may bring it down to RMB50 from the city to hotel. Since we stayed only for a night, we went to town to try the water feast at the famous "Chen Bu Tong" restaurant.

The location of the Hotel is absolutely incredible... from the terrace on the 4th floor (building 5), you have an amazing view on the main attraction of Luoyang: the Longmen grottoes. And the Hotel is in walking distance from the grottoes as well as one of the nature parks in the area and a temple.||||If you plan to use your stay in Luoyang mainly to examine the ancient site of Longmen grottoes then this Hotel will be hard to beat. However if you want to explore the area and stay for a few days, then this Hotel is remote (it will take you a good half an hour to get to the old town or 45 minutes to the white horse temple - that is if you can get a taxi to come up to the Hotel, due to its proximity to the grottoes, often the road is blocked and you have to get quite far down the road to find a taxi). ||||When it comes to the rest: the view and proximity to the Longmen grottoes is the only 5 star aspect about this Hotel. The rooms are ok but the bathroom is very small, the rooms look outdated, no safe in the room and the mini-bar was empty (despite a price list, redundant information). On day 1 we entered the breakfast room at 9:15 am (breakfast is served until 9:30) which turned out to be a big mistake: apparently the staff wants to leave at 9:30 instead of stopping service at that time. The buffet was almost empty and the staff was busy cleaning up. Day 2 was much better but we got there at 7:30am. ||||We were most disappointed though with how little of help the staff was in case of questions relating to anything else than the grottoes: the staff was not able to tell us how to get to Shaolin temple (the other main attraction of the area) or what to do there, to get us a taxi to come to the Hotel, to pick us up from down the hill after a visit to the grottoes despite earlier assurances or to inform us of reasonable prices of taxi rides to town or other attractions. ||||Luoyang and Shaolin have a lot to offer: the grottoes, shaolin temple, white horse temple, old town, mudan flowers if you come in the right season etc. Just be careful with taxi drivers and ask them to use the meter or agree on a price upfront to avoid unpleasant surprises.

宾馆的地理位置非常棒，就在龙门石窟核心景区白园的旁边。从大堂步行10分钟可以到达到龙门大桥，宾馆也提供电瓶车免费摆渡到白园门口。宾馆的周边环境非常棒，就在东山上，按照宾馆的介绍有1-6公里的登山徒步道可供休憩。室内外游泳池还没有开放，据说要到7月1日才开。宾馆是典型的国有高级宾馆，虽然不能和国际五星度假酒店对比，但也在可接受的范围内。餐厅的出品很不错，价格也不贵，入住期间的几顿饭都是在这里解决的。一句话，去龙门石窟的首选住宿地点。

东山宾馆是洛阳市的第一家五星级宾馆，接待过很多领导人以及外国政要和各界社会名流，酒店有着非常好的地理位置，住在这里，主要因为这里靠近龙门石窟，只隔了一条伊河，估计很多人住这里都是跟我一样的原因吧。这个宾馆位于洛阳龙门东山。宾馆交通便利，距机场、火车站分别为17公里和13公里。公交车旅游车直达。||这个酒店还是很有特色的，设施比较齐全，客房餐厅泳池健身房都有，很多建筑分散在山上各处，风水那是非常的好，绿化做的也非常好，依山傍水，远离闹市，鸟语花香。这个设施这龙门地区算是比较好的了，但是也因为是比较老牌的五星级酒店，有些细节现在看来略显陈旧。|大厅装修有别于其他五星级酒店，毕竟这是个宾馆的定位，还是比较传统老式的风格，酒店的房间花园式的风格，还是很雅致的。晚餐就在宾馆吃了，因为位置比较偏，价格还可以，就是味道一般。|走进客房，房间不大，也是传统老式的标间样式，深色的木制家具。||进门的衣柜，睡衣，保险箱，雨伞，衣架等。|柜台上摆放着一些常规用品，烧水壶里没有茶垢，比较干净，提供免费的矿泉水和茶叶包，冲了一杯雀巢看咖啡。 入住还送了果盘、多种饮料和小食，非常贴心。

This resort is mainly a government retreat. The property is beautifully maintained, tranquil, peaceful and located 5 minutes from the Longmen Grottos. This was our last spot after 30 days and we were looking forward to a relaxing stay. The rooms were immaculate and nicely appointed, BUT the beds were hard as rocks. We had seen reviews for hard beds, but this was our first experience. We hardly slept our 2 nights there. Although internet was free, it was either very very slow or very very censored at this government retreat.||||The other problem for us was eating. You are far from any place to eat and the only restaurant in the asian buffet. One day there was no coffee, the next an old pot sitting coldly on a table. We love asian food, but it was mostly local and without description. We had a diffucult time have a satisfying meal with both our breakfasts and dinners here.||||Although the staff was polite, no one really spoke any English. We did a lot of pointing and charades.||||Liked: The quiet, natural, resort and close to the Grotto - location||||Disliked: The hard bed and limited food choice.
