Hongtang Bay Jianguo Resort Sanya

I survived my first impression and had a nice stay. On my day-one scouting walk, almost everything nearby was closed, including most of the advertised restaurants. When I factored in the impact of limited travellers because of pandimic restrictions, however, my concerns were eased. The microbrew bar was closed, but the restaurant served their IPAs. The food was good and affordable. The grounds were quite nice and the staff friendly. The fitness room was good. A vending machine substituted for restaurants for afternoon snacks and late-night beers. On our last night, we were invited to the small town 5 minutes away and discovered a charming haven of restaurants and coffee shops, many with an ocean view. Next time, I'll head there right away!

Pros: hotel is around 5 minutes walk to a beautiful, clean stretch of beach.Rooms are spacious, with a good layout.Staff are helpful, polite and some speak English.Cons: it feels like the middle of nowhere - although it’s in Tianya District, it’s around 40 minutes+ from Dadonghai & Sanya Bay… even longer with the holiday traffic. Seems like it’s in a developing area, so maybe there will be less construction & more to do in the years to come.Rooms weren’t that clean. Could see dirt/dust build up on furniture and in the bathroom.Breakfast was a 1/10. Wasn’t worth waking up for. They didn’t even have coffee. You’re better off walking to the beach to buy fruit. We watched as staff used a dirty black cloth to clean the tables. Wouldn’t stay again but it wasn’t terrible.

First thing that hits you when you arrive is the sewage smell. There is pretty much nothing around the hotel and therefore has quite a dead/abandoned feeling. Many facilities/amenities are promised, but halve do not exist. Shops/restaurant/bars/sauna were non-existing or closed during the stay(Chinese new year might have played a role). We were very excited to stay, but in general this resort is not worth it at all. Hotel refused to reimburse any amount after checking in for an hour, realising the state of the place and wanting to check out again. This left us with a bad taste in the mouth, feeling they are just money hungry and not in it for the customers.

The staff is very friendly. Lovely and helpful. The rooms are decent. The food is very Chinese, but decent. Breakfast is decent too. There is a little supermarket below the hotel. It is convenient. The location has a tiny flaw - it's very far from general activity, as well as from the airport. No shuttle provided. However, the reception staff are willing to help you get a driver for a discounted price. If you're willing to use public bus transport, that's alright too. The staff will help you with that. Overall, it's a lovely hotel.

This hotel is great value for money! The receptionist is very helpful, friendly and accommodating. The facilities are also good. The hotel has a large swimming pool, hotel bar, gym, kids play area and a restaurant. The beach is close to the hotel and there are only few people. I would highly recommend this hotel. We had a fantastic stay👍😊🔥
