NillThe staff was very nice, the rooms however were not great. We found dirty socks, empty bottles, condoms and condom wrappers in and under our bed. The bathtub barely drained, the TV remote didn't work so it was stuck on Fox News, the door did not close all the way unless you pulled on it. The Keurig in the room only worked for a couple cups of coffee before it stopped working. It's very noisy with Ernies being next door, you get to listen to fights and people honking at 2 am picking up drunk people. The curtains didn't block out the street light well so it was hard to sleep. Also the room smelled really muskie which was pretty lame. Oh also there was only one bath towel in the room so I had to ask for more. Staff like I said was great but its definitely a one star hotel, definitely shouldn't charge a "resort fee".

NillWish I could recommend this hotel, but I cannot. It is almost impossible to reach them on the phone, and they do not respond to emails. The room was small and dingy, carpet was old and yucky, no stopper in the sink etc. I tried to open the door to my room and found that it was already occupied. Our travel companions had to ask for a new room because of a terrible odor. After I left I was charged for my stay on the card I left for incidentals although I had prepaid for the stay with Expedia. Multiple attempts to reach them were unsuccessful via phone and email. Eventually I did reach them and the charge was reversed. For over $300 /night I did expect a clean room and better service.

★Alaska in the summer is expensive. I was trying to find a reasonable place to stay for two nights in Sitka prior to leaving on a cruise. ||At first glance, it looked ok (see photo). But, then I began to poke around. My room was on the first floor. Overlooking a narrow alleyway where employees smoked. This meant that the curtains had to be kept drawn. It was dark and felt like a cave. I was also on a corridor that lead to the restaurant so there was lots of traffic in the hall until past 10 pm. ||Many things were broken including a window that came apart when I tried to open it and a sink faucet that sprayed water. The only outlets that were usable were behind the fridge and behind the two beds so I ended up moving furniture to get to one to use. There were cover plates on the other outlets. The shower had items left over from the previous person and someone had tried to go high end using large stones in the shower on the floor, but they just ended up hurting my feet. ||On the plus side, there was a full sized fridge. This felt like a room that had been repurposed from something else. Perhaps a studio apartment that had an extra bed put into it for the summer season? ||When I brought up issues to the folks at the front desk, they offered no apologies and simply said thank you for letting them know. ||While it had advertised breakfast, they said under new management they were no longer serving that. They had breakfast sandwiches you could buy in a small fridge, but I was dubious and didn't risk it. An inquiry as to where to get breakfast drew a blank stare. I found the backdoor cafe on my own. ||For budget reasons if you need to stay here, I would definitely request a room not on the first floor. ||It is located downtown and a 2 minute walk from the main street so easy access that way.

★The best thing I can say about Sitka Hotel is it's location right downtown. The rest was a nightmare. We arrived at 3 pm to check in - the lobby was full of people waiting for their rooms to be cleaned - and i asked the harried woman at the desk if our room was cleaned yet - no, and no prediction of when. However she knew - because of their system where they assign guests in advance of arrival to rooms, and then clean the third floor first, then the second floor, then the first floor. Our room was the last to be cleaned and we checked in after 4:30. At which time she told us there was an additional charge (we had prepaid) but couldn't explain to us what it was for. The room was small - basically filled by the two beds. The "view" out the window was of a garbage area behind next door building. The grout in the bathroom shower was grody. They do offer a shuttle to the airport and advise getting there early. we arrived at 10:05 for a 10:15 shuttle, and she told us it had already come and gone. Finally she agreed to text the driver to see if he could swing back to get us - as it is only 3 minutes from the airport! After some minutes we asked if they had texted back. She said no. I then saw a sign about the shuttle bus which actually originates from the West mark hotel and called - they immediately got the driver and said he'd be there in five minutes. We asked the driver - he said she had not texted him. PS the coffee in the lounge is undrinkable.

NillI have mixed reviews about our stay. Our room was very dated with a tiny bathroom and no space to put anything. It was clean but the carpet was incredibly worn. We did have a beautiful view of the water. The desk staff was neither friendly nor unfriendly, just there. The hotel is in easy walking distance to most things and there is a city shuttle nearby which is a huge plus. The location of the hotel is right behind a bar which is great in some ways as we did enjoy Ernies, but when you are trying to sleep at two a.m and Nicki Minaj is blasting in the alley while people are screaming and yelling it becomes somewhat annoying. That is not the hotels fault though. Sadly I had to keep my windows open because it was warm. I don't expect Alaska to have air conditioning. They did provide a fan which was wonderful. I didn't love or hate my experience at this hotel. I would probably give it another shot if I ever make it back to Sitka.

★★★★My family and I were in Sitka for a few days and stayed at the Sitka hotel. Overall we had a good experience, everyone being very friendly and quick if we had any additional needs. They offered free tea and coffee all day as well as having few snack items for purchase. Just outside the hotel there are a couple food trucks that are open later in case you get a little hungry at night!

★Worst hotel at the most expensive price. I've stayed at many, many hotels. This is the worst. Nobody at the desk knows anything or should I say chooses not to interact with a guest. Coffee maker in room doesn’t work, no coffee anyway. Safe in room doesn't work or is permanently locked. No coffee on the 1st floor. Had to bring key card to desk 3 times to get it to work. Nobody cares and has no information. The list goes on and on. Will never stay here again.

★Room wasn't ready until hours after check-in. When we finally we able to check-in, the room had dirty dishes and towels from the previous guest. On our final day we went to get breakfast (before check-out) and returned to find housekeeping rooting through our belongings (even though the do not disturb sign was on the door). Staff are either unwilling or unable to answer questions or assist with basic requests...like getting the last guest's dirty towels replaced with clean ones.
