As someone mentioned on a previous review, The rooms were cool, but the trouble started after my stay. I called to reserve 3 rooms for my family because I couldn't get the site to work. The owner stated that he would charge me for the 3 rooms but give me the side with the 4 rooms for the price of 3 at a flat rate of $400.00. I believe he had mentioned the normal rate was $134.00 a room. I thought that was cool of him. The issue was the owner charged my card 500.00 for the rooms. When I called back to get it corrected, he told me that I must have misheard him. He said that's why he doesn't do reservations on the phone. I said I didn't hear him wrong and why would I pay $500.00 for 3 rooms, way over the normal price? He told me that he is a small business owner and he would not have offered me a discount(basically calling me a liar). I told him I can't believe he doesn't remember this conversation and he told me he put in notes for his staff. He me he deals with hundreds of reservations. I said not over the phone though as you previously stated you don't do (I felt I caught him in a lie). I told him the only reason I called is because the site wasn't working. He quickly said that the site was working( second time he called me a liar). ||||After getting on the site, the rate for weekdays is $102.00 a night. So I should have paid $306.00 for the rooms. I actually did pay for the 4th room I didn't ask for but was offered for free. If that wasn't enough for him, he charged an extra $100.00 on top of the already over charge. To say the owner is a thief may be an understatement. There are better and more honest options for "haunted Houses" I'd rather deal with the ghosts over the owner. ||||The Better Business Bureau and a small claims case are in their future as I live close to the area of the hotel.

Horrible experience trying to book two rooms here! We had to reschedule rooms due to a family pet dying. This owner acted like he was rescheduling for us and when the time came for the new date he refused to honor it! He even went so low as to ask for proof of the dying family pet! As if we stopped to take pictures of the event! He refused to honor his word and said he changed his mind yet failed to notify us! He's refusing to refund hundreds of dollars in booking fees... not to mention all the screenshots of him confirming the alteration. He's a liar and extremely hostile and rude to customers who simply wanted to spend the night in a cool hotel. You've been warned.

There are not enough words in the English language to describe how much I enjoyed my stay at the Black Monarch Hotel! We stayed in the Black Annise room, and the bed was so comfortable my partner took a 4 hour nap immediately after arriving! Every detail was well thought out and beautiful. The bathrooms were clean and well stocked. We are very much looking forward to returning in warmer weather to explore the incredible town of Victor in more detail!

Don't be taken in by the cool façade. The owner is shady, get your booking in writing and never hand over cash. That's all I'm going to say on that. You have been warned. Stayed here earlier in the year and that's the first and last time we'll ever be doing that.

I’ve heard so many things about the Black Monarch Hotel and was so excited to finally be able to stay. The Lizzie Borden room was small but cozy; the axes on the wall and the death/birth certificates were such a spooky touch! I was worried about sharing the bathroom with other people but it wasn’t that bad; we never had an issue with someone waiting to use the bathroom and thankfully the second bathroom on the other side of the hotel also helped ease my anxiety. The only reason I’m not giving 5 stars is because our room was dirty when we arrived. There were chips and crackers behind the arm chair by the bed. Definitely will be back to experience the beautiful haunt known as The Black Monarch Hotel.

My girlfriend and I enjoyed our stay at the Black Monarch Hotel. We stayed in the Lizzie Borden themed room. The decor was great and the Lizzie Borden documents (birth certificate, death certificate, etc...) left in the drawer of the desk was a really nice touch. We were a bit apprehensive about staying here because of the shared bathroom situation but it ended up not being an issue at tall. Although the hotel was booked out, we only saw one other couple once during our stay. It was pretty quiet for the most part. I definitely recommend being prepared with snacks and drinks as there aren't a lot of options in the Victor area. Fortunately, Cripple Creek isn't too far away so you still have options as limited as they may be. There are plenty of old mining equipment sites and buildings to check out in the area to pass time and be sure to stop by and check out Rita the Rock Planter. We enjoyed our time at the Black Monarch Hotel and hope to stay again soon.

Absolutely fantastic love this place every time I’ve been went first in 2020 but have come back 3 times since to get away from the city. All of the rooms feel like you are walking into a spooky instagram account and the owner couldn’t be more cool.

WARNING ⚠️ Recently we decided to take a trip up to the Black Monarch hotel for my birthday. A long awaited trip with no expectations and seeing good reviews, we embarked on our journey. From the outside of the building we couldn't tell what was in store for us, but a sense of confusion and disappointment soon began to settle in. As I entered the hallway leading to the upstairs rooms I thought, hmmm? Renovations? The hall was unfinished and had string lights like a construction site. I began to wonder if this was the right place. After going up the stairs and eventually finding our room, once again we were met with a very cold and uninviting feeling. Literally. This side of the hotel was like an ice burg, if I wanted to sleep in the cold I would have just slept outside and saved myself the trouble. Still, giving this place the benefit of a doubt, we unlocked the door and I will say I was surprised when I saw the Dracula room. It was very well decorated, and so awesome. Whoever the decorator was did a terrific job making the room look incredible. But, once again what looked so nice at first began to show it's true colors. The first thing I noticed was the bed and look, I am not picky at all. But when I tell you it was like a solid piece of concrete, I am not lying. I thought it had a piece of plywood under the sheets. Once again I was like okay we can work with this. But then once the excitement wore off we realized how cold it was. I'm surprised the pipes don't freeze on this side of the hotel. I attempted to get the baseboard heater to work to no avail. It wouldn't ever reach an operating temperature. I ended up searching for a heater and found a radiant heater in the common area and plugged it in our room. That space heater did work and was able to get the room to a comfortable temperature after a few hours. Next we noticed the remote was missing to the TV and began to search for it. The remote was nowhere to be found, however I did find some old red panties. (Disgusting) Between the bottom part of the bed and the mattress. If you are reading this, they are probably still there and I have the picture. They have little lists posted for housekeeping but I don't think they are ever taken seriously. There was so much dust on the fan I was almost to afraid to sleep under it. It had clearly not been dusted in a very very long time, not to mention the carpet... Even still we gave it the benefit of the doubt. We took a self guided tour around the upstairs and noticed how much warmer the other side was compared to ours. The right side was like a normal 70 degrees and our side was about 30 degrees. No joke. Then I thought, I'll take a bath. (It's a shared bathroom) They have a claw foot tub and that sounds nice. Nope. Not only was the tub dirty, but the hot water only ran hot for the first 1/4 of the tub and then got cold and it never got hot again that night. No bath robes as promised. After spending entirely to long looking for the remote or wifi password we contacted the hotel management to ask what could be done. Which they did provide a solution for, but once again. If this hotel was ran properly none of this would have been an issue. If I could say less I would, but I want whoever you are that's reading this to take heed and avoid this place until something major is done. This hotel belongs on Hotel Hell with Gordon Ramsay. I was appalled at what they called clean, and at the "Have a nice stay" Sign on the wall. How am I supposed to have a nice stay when you are missing pretty much everything a good hotel needs... I'm just disappointed, for looking forward to something for so long. I just thought it would have been decent at the very least. This was absolutely unacceptable. The only thing erie about this hotel is what they consider hospitality. You've been warned.
