As with most hotel stays there is the good and the bad. First the good. The Staff at the Strathallan Hotel were uniformly wonderful. They were pleasant, accommodating and cared about their guestsnotably the Assistant Front End Manager, Ryan Wade. He went the extra several miles to solve our issues (see below. As to our suite: The mattress at 7 on Strath was wonderful. It is the+ sort you want to buy for your own home. Sadly that is the end of the good.|7 on Strath describes itself as "a luxurious private oasis in the heart of Rochester's Cultural District. It is in the Cultural District, so that much is accurate. We stayed in the Strong Todd Suite which certainly did not live up to the pictures on their website. It does have a bedroom and living room, but you can only get from one to the other by (1) leaving the suite, going into the public hallway, and entering the suite, or (2) by walking through the bathroom. We were surprised to find that the heat/air return was choked with dust so much that up to 20% of the open space was blocked. It took two days of requests to have someone "turn on the heat in the building" and allow us to bypass the presets. The fan was on when we arrived, and I finally had to stand on the mattress and reach up precariously to turn the fan off without turning off the light as well. And they need to take the dead bugs out of the fan’s light globe at some point. Both rooms had flat screen TV's as promised but they were somewhat haphazardly mounted on the wall and in the bedroom the cable box (you get basic cable from Spectrum) sits perched on top. In the living room it sits on the desk with bundles of wire showing above it. And there is no phone in the suite at all.|The bathroom, was described as a “state-of-the-art oversized bath". The room is small, with a sink and a basic Home Depot vanity, a toilet and a shower. There is an oddly large piece of weatherstripping on the threshold from the bedroom. There is no place to put toiletries and the amenities that are in the bathroom are on a tray that overhangs the edge of the vanity so things are falling off regularly. I noted the first night that the shower dripped continuously, which is not conducive to peaceful sleep. After reporting this twice the hotel "engineer" came and tried to stop it. He did reduce it but it remained dripping for the entirety of our stay. He said he would later repair the toilet paper holder which was hanging by a thread. There was mold or mildew around the base of the shower and the shower door would not open easily and one of the two doors twice fell in the shower while doing so. And there is a single towel bar mounted over the toilet so there is no place to put a wet towel other than on the shower door or the single hook on the door to the living room. The room is so small that you cannot open the door to the bedroom while standing at the sink since it opens against the sink. And the living room side door is so swollen it closes and opens only with significant force.|There was no housekeeping during our stay and we had to carry out our trash. The Wi-fi in the room 2 and 3 Mbps which made streaming anything impossible. A reboot of the cable modem, after two complaints did nothing to improve the speed. There is more, but you get the picture. . Since the Strathallan and 7 on Strath say they have EV charging stations, we gladly rented an EV for our visit. We learned that to use the EV charging stations you need to open an account with the third party provider with a base balance of $40 and you could use that to charge the vehicle at the rate of $0.25 per minute so that is hardly the amenity suggested. This was a good lesson in buyer beware. In fairness, Ryan Wade, the Assistant Front End Manager did everything humanly possible to assist us and saved some of the reputation of the Strathallan. But we would never consider staying at 7 on Strath again.

This is an old mansion with 6 rooms which is affiliated with an upscale hotel next door, the Strathallen, on a lovely block in a central area of Rochester. It is reasonably priced in a very desirable location with access to all the amenities of the neighboring hotel. The Strathallen has a wonderful outdoor fireplace which we used. There is ample parking. There was a mini refrigerator in our room with a coffee maker, tv, and sink. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. The bathroom and closet were spacious. There was also a washer / dryer available on the first floor and a small sitting area when you first walk into the mansion. The charming front porch has seating as well.||||There are several things that are important to know:||||1.||You check in at the Strathallen Hotel next door where they give you the keys and the security code to get into the mansion. This was not made clear when booking online on the 7 on Strath website. Only upon arriving do you read the sign at the front of the property directing you to check in next door. ||||2.||After booking, we were sent a confirmation email without any price summary. I immediately requested one by email and received no response. By phone, you can’t get through at the number listed on their website. Not being able to communicate with them neither by phone nor email made me nervous. It was only by googling “7 on Strath” and researching it myself that I found out it is run by MC Management, and by calling that phone number, I was able to actually talk to someone who was able to help me.||||3.||Not all of the rooms are numbered- ours wasn’t. It was by the process of elimination that we figured out which room was ours and then tested the key.||||4.||There was an issue with cleanliness/maintenance. The main light in our room did not work but more importantly, dust was caked on the blades of the ceiling fan. It seemed as if it hadn’t been cleaned in quite a while. We immediately went next door to complain. They did send people over to look at the room. The fan was vacuumed off but the light was not able to be fixed.||||5.||This is a three story house and does not seem handicap accessible. There is no elevator. ||||If these things don’t bother you, it is a very good value.

Situated in an old house next to (and affiliated with) the usually excellent Strathallan hotel - and advertised as luxury suites - we felt fine booking a room here even though the cost seemed quite high ($200+) Our room was instead worth about $89 on a good night. ||||Here’s what was good: ||-A/C worked well and room was cool. ||-Nice front porch on a walkable street. ||-Bed was fine; standard Hilton fare. ||The end. ||||Here’s what was bad:||- Dark, depressing rooms with mismatched old furniture. There’s old charming and there’s old crappy. This is old crappy.||- Sofa was about as comfortable (and as clean) as my son’s frat house. Lumpy and gross.||- TV didn’t work the first night. Called over to Strathallan- on cell phone, no phone in room - very nice maintenance guy comes after 30 mins, has to reset the whole thing, still doesn’t work.||- One of the 2 doors to the bathroom didn’t fully close. Ok for an old married couple I guess, but not good.||- Shower doors didn’t move in their rails, constantly stuck and hard to close.||- provided with only two thin, scratchy bath towels. Like one of those really bad motels. The opposite of luxury.||- microwave was, I think, one of the original versions from 1979 or whenever, I’ve literally never seen one so old.||- Walls and doors are thin so lots of noise as other guests enter the house. ||||Overall, this was a really bad experience, unexpected given their affiliation with the Strathallan. They seemed, at least, receptive to feedback. But I would do a lot of due diligence before staying there again.

Don't do it! What I hate about this place is that is claims to be something it is not. It is not a "polished hotel" and there is no complimentary breakfast, as listed on Google Maps. Phone number and emails to contact the host after reserving did not go through. The place is basically self-serve, like an AirBnb, but with worse access to information, cancellations, etc. We rented the top floor (largest) suite. One of the pull-out couches was broken and started to fold back in on itself when my daughter tried resting on it. Although the place appeared relatively clean, walking around barefoot I got pink sperm confetti stuck to my feet. Not exactly the vibe I was going for during a family stay. Presented more accuately, and with a replacement couch, and a different price point , this place could be fine, but as it is I feel like I got swindled.

Terrible host and agonizing neighbors in complex. Security and neighbors felt the need to follow us around and harass the small social gathering all night long didn't think having a party of six was a real disturbance on a Friday night. Wasn't even worth staying for the one night if being rented out got so bad we decided to leave by midnight.

Beautiful house converted into a small hotel and event space. The top floor was very spacious and accommodated a fairly large group of people. The porch is a perfect place to sit and relax.

Good value. Comfortable beds. Room layout is inconvenient with little ones. There was a persistent knocking all through the night that was loud enough to keep me up.

No hot water. Need to call maintenance to shower. Internet less than good and the room does not have sufficient heat. The service is responsive but it gets to be a pain when you have to wait 15 mins before making sure the water is hot, another 20 mins for the maintenance to identify the hot and cold water marker was installed in reverse.
