★★★★★12 yrs ago I was sweating bullets . . . ||I had bet the farm on making Newton Fork Ranch home base for our family’s Black Hills stay. A place I knew absolutely nothing about other than what the ranch’s small magazine ad described. ||12 consecutive years, the ranch has surpassed what that small ad said we would experience. Steeped in family history, the ranch is locally owned. The owner and ranch manager put so much thought, effort and pride into caring for the ranch and caring for their guests. || Location - Location - Location||The ranch itself is tucked into the Black Hills and a photographer’s delight (amazing night skies). Our NFR stays have provided access to innumerable experiences: Mickelson Trail (both biking & walks), Sylvan Lake, Horse Thief Lake & Pactola Lake (kayaking, swimming & hiking), UTV rides on forest service trails, Custer State Park, Black Elk Peak trail, Cathedral Spires trail, Centennial Trail, Gold Mountain Mine, Spokane Ghost Town, Mammoth Site & Evans Plunge (Hot Springs), Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Mt Moriah Cemetery (Deadwood). ||We have had countless exceptional meals throughout the Black Hills but just as equally enjoyed grilling at our well equipped cabin and sipping hot cocoa relaxing on our cozy deck. ||So many unforgettable family memories thanks to Newton Fork Ranch.

★★★★★Stayed for three nights in the Harney View Cabin. Very convenient location for Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer State Park. Also within a 60 minute ride to Deadwood and the Badlands. Our host Jennie contacted us about our arrival time and greeted us shortly upon arrival. 5 minute ride to nice little town of Hill City with lots of shops and restaurants. Cabin was perfect with two bedrooms. We had a beautiful view of the mountain from our porch in the Adirondack rocking chairs.

★★★★★We booked ahead from the UK based purely on reviews and photos. Approaching Hill City from the airport, I started to get really worried seeing all the holiday camps advertising 'cabins' strewn along the main highways. Nothing close to the slice of peace and tranquillity I was looking for. The relief was tangible, turning the corner in the road to see the entrance to Newton Fork Ranch and the beautiful lush green meadow beyond. Just a handful of cabins arranged around the perimeter, each given plenty of space and oriented to ensure privacy and a view from the balcony. The cabin was light, airy, comfortable and equipped with everything we needed. The large windows affording a view of the meadow even when inside. During the days spent in and around Hill City I came to appreciate just how unique Newton Fork Ranch is. The majority of accommodation around this area is very commercial, touristy, high density and right on the main road. Newton Fork Ranch is in a completely different class. There was some noise from the road during the day largely due to the number of ATVs on the roads in the summer but this died down completely at night and in the mornings. If you're an international traveller, you'll need to bring you're own 4/5G WiFi as a dongle or phone enabled for US networks as there's no built in WiFi at the cabin. In general I like to leave all my technology behind on holiday but when travelling abroad, internet access is extremely helpful for logistics and researching and planning activities. I used Airalo to purchase an eSim for my iPhone 13 and it worked great. If you're looking for a beautiful, peaceful place to stay in South Dakota surrounded by nature but close to all the top attractions, I think Newton Fork Ranch is as good as it gets.

NillGorgeous property, cozy and well equipped cabins, excellent location. We loved our stay at the Harney View cabin. It was just what we needed for our family of 6 for our spring break trip to South Dakota. It was close to everything yet remote enough to enjoy being away from civilization. The temperature was well below freezing when we were there but the cabin remained warm and cozy and the whole family appreciated the never-ending hot water. Our pup was able to stay warm and cozy while we took in the sights during the day and the night sky was a treat for astronomy fans. We will definitely return for longer next time. Thank you Jennie for the hospitality!

NillIf I could use one word to describe my visit to Newton Fork Ranch, it would be "Perfection." Upon arrival, I entered a beautiful bucolic setting. We had the last cabin on the left, which was Meadow song. Upon entering, the cabins are clean, well maintained, and absolutely perfect. If you want a quiet getaway away, gorgeouseous views, cabins that exhibit the highest standard of craftsmanship, and myriad activities/attractions nearby, I would highly recommend Newton Fork Ranch. Thank you, Jenny and Linda, for making this little escape a possibility. Rich history, natural wonders, family friendly, and QUIET.

NillThis place is magical. Our family has enjoyed a 3-night stay in the Forest Haven cabin, and we will absolutely return for another visit. The cabin was clean and had EVERYTHING we needed. There was even a box of Lincoln Logs and a CD player with CDs, which my toddler loved! The ranch is peaceful and has beautiful views in every direction. I almost don’t want people to know about this hidden gem of a place, but you can tell the owner takes great pride in this business and does a wonderful job managing things.

★★★★★Immerse yourself in solitude and beauty at Newton Fork Ranch. Any season all seasons the ranch does not disappoint. Honestly you won’t want to leave. The night sky will take your breath away. Exceptional full log cabins and Grandma’s Ranch house is a step back in time. Visit the Newton Fork Ranch website to pick the best cabin for you - some have showers, others tubs and some have stairs. The owner and staff have gone out of their way to make your stay as carefree as possible. We should know as we have been guests at the ranch every year for 11 years running.

★★★★★We enjoyed our stay at the Postmaster’s Cabin. The location is great with convenience to Hill City restaurants and shops, as well as short drives to attractions like Mt Rushmore, Custer State Park, and much more. The cabin has everything you need - including WiFi!! Very peaceful and comfortable. The reservation process was easy and helpful. All around the best experience. Highly recommend.
