The good - the location is decent, close to the amusement park and on the waterfront. The rooms are clean and access to the internet is included. The not so good - the rooms are very small, not even enough room for a dresser to keep your cloths in. The well water is foul smelling and undrinkable, even showers are unpleasant with this water.

This has a great lakeside view/access but I agree with the Michigan reviewer. I paid a lot and I don’t love it. It is partly my fault I thought I was booking Lake Shafer Resort, but booked this one on accident. So I thought it had a pool. It’s not the cleanest, but it’s better than others around. The housekeeping is super nice, the owner is as well.

We loved our stay at Shafer Lakeside Resort! This was our 2nd trip this year - our first visit was in the summer and we had a great time swimming in the lake. It's a beautiful, clean lake and the direct access to the water from the deck was perfect! Our room was clean, comfortable, and newly updated with everything you need-including a fridge, coffee maker and microwave. It was nice to have access to a grill on the deck too. The amusement park is just down the street, any easy walk from the resort. But I absolutely loved our second trip this past week, autumn on the lake with the beautiful old oak trees made for a perfect relaxing evening. I would highly recommend this resort!

This Resort was clean and modernized. There were ample USB plug in locations. Water pressure in shower was great. The beds were clean and very comfortable. The room decor was fantastic. The rooms maximized the space keeping walking areas clear and providing ample drying racks for towels and swimming gear. The parking area is tight for trucks but do able. The dock provides tie off areas for boats. The lower decking at the water side has been renovated to provide ample sitting and lounging. The air conditioners are more than ample to provide cool air in the rooms. If they could get more hours out of the day it would be absolutely remarkable. We used a pontoon boat to explore the lake which had some areas to pull into the shore and enjoy the beaches. The amusement park is walking distance away. I was very happy to see the park has been upgraded with renovations and a few new rides have been added. The park is clean and very well maintained. I highly recommend this resort. Other area hotels and resorts have not been maintained over the recent past due to the closure of the park but I see many are restoring their places as the public starts to return to the are to enjoy the good things Indiana Beach Amusement Park has to offer. Prices are a little higher than the past but u fortunately some of the older motels that are in the area have not upgraded in years and are not in good shape. Do yourself a favor and read reviews of the area resorts before you make your reservations. They will tell you of good and bad. This resort has had many last minute calls for rooms due to the poor condition of other resorts.

Shafer Lakeside Resort advertised everything I was looking for during our stay in Monticello. I wanted pet friendly accommodations, lakeside lodging with docking for our boat, and close proximity to Indiana Beach Amusement Park. All 3 expectations were highly exceeded. The room appeared to be newly renovated. Everything was clean with no concerns. The view from the back deck overlooking Lake Shafer is absolutely beautiful! The deck had abundant shade and a nice breeze off the lake to keep us and pets cool in the heat of July. We were able to grill a majority of our meals and eat on the deck with multiple picnic tables and deck tables/chairs available. We got to know the owners on a first name basis. They were very polite. They were always a phone call away answering every time we called, addressing our needs promptly (new towels, toilet paper), and even made time for small talk about our stay. Owners were also very helpful on providing suggestions on where to launch our boat and things to do on the lake prior to booking. Indiana Beach Amusement Park is literally right down the street. They advertised a close walk to the park and I was surprised of just how close it really was. Very easy walk but there’s also a shuttle that would stop and offer to take us down to the entrance as well. The park was very nostalgic for the adults and the kids absolutely loved it. There was private parking for our vehicle at the resort and ample free parking across the street for the park. Lake Shafer was an absolute hidden gem for us out of town boaters! It was clean, much larger than anticipated, and very easy to navigate. The views of the amusement park from the water are a must-see! We typically look for new destinations but we’re already talking about making an exception and coming back for another stay. This was an absolute 5/5 stay from me and my family with no hesitation.

Looking for a great place to stay - don’t hesitate! Shafer Lakeside Resort is one the best places my family has ever stayed. The room we stayed in was extremely clean and comfortable. I have never slept in such comfortable beds at a resort! I love that we had Keurig in our room with delicious coffee - sounds little but that is one thing that we liked about Safer Lakeside Resort is the attention to detail! The resort overlooks the beautiful lake. Down by the pier, the kids were able to jump in the lake and fish off the dock. The big deck offered us a place to gather and grill meals with the rest of our group and we had a bonfire at night where we could view the fireworks from Indiana Beach. Indiana Beach is about a five minute walk, so we could go back and forth from the park without much effort which was nice for us with little kids. The owners are very friendly and accommodating. I wholeheartedly recommend this resort to anyone looking for a great place to stay!

Great accommodations in a nice location. The resort is within walking distance to the amusement park. Beautiful deck overlooking the lake, and clean and spacious rooms with very nice amenities. It looks like the hotel was recently renovated since everything was new in the rooms. Really enjoyed our stay. Highly recommend.

Traveled down from Michigan for the Labor Day weekend to visit the adventure and water park at Indiana Beach Resort. However the parks water park was closed. The Shafter Lakeside rooms only "looked good" in the inside due to new paint, flooring, and decor BUT definitely overpriced!!!!. The Beds were hard and very uncomfortable, standard 2 full size beds with sink, mini fridge and microwave for $300 a night! I can get a luxury suite for that in my home state. Feel very taken advantage off , couldn't even enjoy the water view because the main deck was fifthly with spider webs and huge spiders. The night lighting barely worked, broken bulbs and solar lights were dim and intermittent. Shower pressure was terrible and NO hot water.;( toliet ended up overflowing and flooding before we left.
