Great place to stay.Nice rooms.

We had a great experience at Freedom Palace. Suman the owner, his wife and staff are all so friendly, helpful and welcoming. We planned on staying for just a few nights but ended up staying for 11. Great location, nice and quiet and just a short walk to the main town. Rooms are simple, clean and affordable (ask for the bigger rooms). There's a fantastic view from the balconies, wifi is good, and the food downstairs is fresh and delicious. If you need something homely ask for the vegetable soup:))

We visited McLeod Ganj around the end of Jan'16. We didn't have any hotel booked prior to reaching and the guy from this hotel met us on the bus stand and informed that charges for the room are 500 per day. We wanted to give it a shot. When we reached there it turned out to be an average hotel, things were not very clean but we asked the owner to get the sheet replace and he replaced all the blankets and everything. He was always pushing one extra mile for our comfort and in a little while we realize that in this price it's pretty much the best you can get. The owner is friendly guy always concerned about your food and travel. He also prepares good Paranthas. In the end I had nothing but positive to say about this hotel. And yes, it does have a very nice view from the balcony.

If you plan on staying in McLeod for a while, this is a great place. I stayed for three weeks. The owner is a smart funny lovely guy that took great care of me to make sure I was alright over these weeks. He totally understands what you need. The rooms are really basic and simple but have lovely colors on the wall that will make you happy too :) warm water can be difficult, as everywhere else in McLeod, so this is a really good and cheap option! I arrived at the bus station with no hotel booked, and Suman, the owner, approached me and invited me to stay at his hotel. I thought it would be a scam, but it was raining, so I decided to at least check it out. The room was spacious, had ample natural light, and had a fantastic view of the surrounding mountains. The only downside was that it was located near the bottom of a steep hill and required walking up a lot of stairs to get to the main town. Overall, it was a great place to stay for a couple of nights.

We stayed here last month, rooms were good and clean , but washroom n service is not as per standards as I had expected . It's really awkward for u to stay here , if u want to stay n watch McLeodganj market , because this hotel is quite downstairs, no lift options . But as per the warm season there is shortage of rooms , so u can stay here for a day/night. The viewpoint from rooftop of this hotel is quite good. U can get good shots from there.

Edited 2024 In the year 2016 I got an opportunity to visit Dharamshala McLeod Ganj. We did not have any prior booking, so we decided to stay in a small hotel as all the big hotels were booked. Then we found Hotel Freedom Palace which was run by Mr. Suman Thakur ji. He was a very nice person and took complete care of us. He also helped us in arranging food and snacks and arranged a good car for us which was driven by a person named Manish and who took us around McLeod Ganj and Dharamshala very well during the entire trip. You can consider this hotel for accommodation but elevation of hotel is little hard to reach .

Friendly owner, location down some steep steps but good exercise. Nice view from balcony. High season so room costs more than it should. Bathroom in serious need of repairs and maintenance - literally everything was broken in some way. But we still had fun!
