Horn Bill Cottage home stay

What a wonderful find!! We were a party of nine coming from France and we were greeted with such warmth and kindness! The rooms were spacious and clean with their ensuite bathrooms (quite recently made). If you don't like the sound of roosters in the morning, then don't bother, but if you want to be in a peaceful natural set up, then look no further. The monkeys are right outside your window. And you can walk to town. The caretaker was very kind and helpful and took our laundry to be washed. In a nutshell, we're very pleased with this place and will keep a fond memory of it.

Jamal is a great host! Very friendly, kind and has your best interest at heart! The hotel is newly build and the rooms are clean and spacious. The matras we slept on was completely new! The bathroom is spacious, clean and has a great shower with hot water. You can park your vehicle easily. Only thing is, the building is very noisy, and many of the guest don’t consider there are other guests in there as well. Screaming, making noise. When asked if they can consider other guests sleep they don’t care… Hopefully in the future Jamal will receive nicer family’s who care about other people. Hornbill cottage. Highly recommended!

Rooms were clean and well maintained. Very spacious. The owner is very friendly and approachable and help with each and every needs of us. They provide homely food. They even arrange auto for sight seeing.. the experience which was outstanding at affordable price. Highly recommended for a pleasant and affordable stay in Thekkady. Big thanks for making our stay wonderful.

We stayed in a new room on the upper floor. Thank you Jamal for working hard to make our stay possible. Around xmas the bookings are crazy in Kumilly. We feel lucky to have a stay here. The new double bed is very comfortable. Some other rooms have two single comfortable matrasses put together (which happens a lot in India). The shower has good pressure and of course there is no mold! The hot shower will be fixed soon in this room. The room is still a bit dusty due to the rebuilding and the amount of work the owner wants to get done before xmas, and proving a lovely stay for his guests. There is still a lot of maintenance to do, it's a big place, but the owner is doing his best and willing to help. We experience Jamal as a very kind person. He also speaks well English and communicates pleasantly. There will be a kitchen on the rooftop from tomorrow he says. There is good free wifi. There is a private parking area in front of the building. Here you are surrounded by nature/high trees. I like the balcony with the seating on the side. You can see your neighbour, but we don't have any yet. The rooms are quite noisy, you can hear people in the hallway, but by now we think that applies for the rest of our stays India, since this is our second week and at every stay it's not soundproof. Some are more noisy than others. We avoid main streets though. We need to adapt our rhythm to our surroundings and sleep early I guess. Maybe that's also more healthy. Flexibility is the key to happiness. We are staying here for 3 night.

Very nice homestay. Really homely behaviour of owner Mr.Jamal and his family. I will definitely return here. Rooms are nice. Enough parking place. Hot water facility. Guidance for activity. Request to guest thinking to book it, this is homestay so you also have to behave like home not professional Thanks

Great place to stay. Clean rooms, bath. |Lived at Hornbill Cottage for over 30 days during my vacation from the USA. Only walking distance from the town but you are at the edge of the forest. Great place to relax and plenty of primates will visit. Some are curious and some a little bold |Amazing place

Booked hornbill cottage after reading the reviews on Trip Advisor through an online portal. The review by fellow travellers were spot on. The place is located in a housing area, can be located through google maps. The road leading to the cottage is a bit narrow with houses on both sides. Place seems more like a house with finishing work pending from outside, but the rooms are spacious, comfortable and very clean. The linen provided was crisp and fresh unlike normal hotels who charge a fortune. Mr. Jamal who is the owner and stays in the same compound is one stop contact for all, he arranged a autorikshaw for us to travel to boating area. We ordered dinner which is cooked by his Mrs and same was delivered on time ad very tasty. Highly recommend this place for a clean pleasant stay and good homely meals. Few suggestions to Jamal: Keep a small glass in bathroom to keep brush & paste, a lot of insects come in in the night, it would be good if netting is provided to the windows.

Really nice rooms that were new and and had a lovely balcony. Nice quiet location. The people were very nice and helpful and breakfast was good (coffee grown in the garden). Would recommend staying here.
