The first time I came to Thekkady, me and my partner stayed at Periyar Mist thanks to the reviews given from TripAdvisor. We loved the place, the view there is fantastic. This home stay gives a feeling of being in the middle of the reserve. The family host are lovely and every time I went to Thekkady I have been staying with them. I have been recommended them to my friends and will definitely advice every one who goes there to stay with them. The rooms are cleaned, bathroom are nice with hot water (which is a must in winter!). The family host are welcoming and I think I can say that we have become good friends by now. Eating home made food is possible on request (they will cook what you want to eat). And you can eat with the family or by your own according to your feelings. They can sort out for you all activities from spending a day in the reserve with jeep pick up to watching a traditional show.

We stayed at Periyar Mist for a couple days in April. Coming to Periyar without having booked an accommodation we were open for anything - and luckily met Sulfie's (the host) brother who offered the room. We decided to take a look at it and were already amazed. The house is in a quiet neighborhoud right at the end of a street that is ending in the wildlife reserve. The house is nicely painted and the rooms were simple but styled with thought and really clean. Just for the room it was really good value for money.||Furthermore we wanted to do some activities around Kumily. The hostfamily organized it all for us perfectly and the schedule really met out wishes. ||On our second evening at Periyar Mist we took a homecooking class with the hostfamily in which we were introduced to some of the best keralese Curries!! And the best: When we finally had the dinner ready (different curries, mango pickles, pappad, rice,...) we ate with the hosts and their precious kids Alfi and Asna. They all speak english very well and it was a great pleasure to get to know more of the culture, a typical keraly family and a delicious dinner!||As you can see: We were pretty happy and know, after having finished our journey through Kerala that this was the best homestay experience we had and one day we will be back :)

Periyar Mist is a very nice home stay residence, and is located not far from the Kumily bus station. Probably 500m. Or about 15 mins walk. The road coming to this residence is a bit difficult to walk as it is filled with pot holes and there is a section with a rather steep up hill climb. If it is your first time coming here, best to get an auto rickshaw. The place is run by a very nice gentleman whom I believe is a retired police officer. Very polite and helpful. He stays there with his family. The rooms here are super clean and impeccable when I visited. And I would come back anytime if visiting here. The only challenge is that walking from the town center may not be the easiest thing, and at night, the roads coming to this place are not lit well, and some areas in total darkness. So it is advisable to bring a torch light when walking at night. The room is very comfortable. At night it is very peaceful. If you are lucky, you might see monkeys climbing around the trees in this residence playing and swinging. Such as rewarding experience.

I am writing this review keeping families in mind. This hotel is not at all good for families. Rooms have very small fan. Plug points are coming out of the bedas they are not available on the wall. You will get hot water in a bucket only after asking the manager. Please don't waste money .At least don't go in season because the room charges are more and you will not the worth for the money

went on a short trip to Thekkady. Fell in love with Periyar mist at first sight. A real cosy home stay bordering the jungle. Wide range of flora and fauna flaunt the place. Felt as if staying inside the jungle. Mr.Sulfie (our host) was kind enough to arrange a cab and took us to visit the tiger reserve at Thekkady. The main attraction of the trip itself was the host. This best hospitality that i've encountered so far. Shall certainly return to the same place and certainly recommend this place to others.

The place was cozy and gave us a 'closer to home' feel.Had a wonderful experience with my family in Periyar Mist, we stayed at there for 2 nights, there is no manpower .....saying off season ..No cook and very average cleanness.hot water is a issue ...even for tea u need to go out.I suggest to you its a better place who is looking for natural and nice stay to have trip in kumily and Thekkady.||One main thing , the person who manage the guesthouse ,Mr. Jayachandran was very friendly and co-operate.He organises our trip in local too.His reception and hospiality is commendable.

We enjoyed our one night stay here ...the place was cozy and gave us a 'closer to home' feel. The rooms were neatly kept and the service was excellent, with Zulfikar the owner of the home-stay leaving no stone unturned to keep his guests happy . There is no view however from the home-stay, which is cut off from the hustle-bustle of Thekkady ..
