IXORA - A HOMESTAY, VARKALA

This was the first place we stayed in India and we couldn’t have had a warmer welcome. Lal was taking great care of us, was being super helpful with any questions we had as well as cooking us delicious meals. Very clean rooms and very serene location.

What can be said about our stay at the Ixora that hasn’t been said about staying with a good friend for a few days? We have never felt more welcome and at home during a vacation anywhere. Let’s start with the basics - the rooms are brand new, spacious and spotless, water pressure is excellent. The location is the perfect distance from the hustle and bustle of the beach to be a quiet, peaceful retreat. A 15 minute walk will have you right by the water. But there is so much more. I recommend you opt for the dinner at least once during your stay because it is excellent! Fresh and authentic Indian food served by a passionate professional. We had dinner every night for 5 nights and it was always a great joy. Which brings us to our host. Now here is someone who clearly loves what he is doing and does it so extremely well. You will encounter the most hospitable, courteous, generous host. We talked for hours about everything and anything. He took care of us in a way that makes us in equal parts sad we had to leave and excited to come back very soon. I have only praise for this location and its host. Be prepared to be wowed and to fall in love with it. Our first visit to Kerala was enjoyable in every way and that is in large part due to stays in excellent places such as this one. Easy 5 stars.

Hi there. I know what you‘re doing. You‘re looking for „The Gem“. The hidden place off the beaten track, quiet but not too quiet with great value for money, comfy beds and clean rooms, hot showers and cold A/C, friendly staff, fantastic food, authentic flair, and so on. All of which is frequently advertised but seldom delivered. Well, you can stop looking. Breathe, unclench your jaw. Relax your shoulders. Give your review scouring eyes a rest. Because this is it. In all of it‘s glory, not a diamond in the rough but a princess cut emerald hidden among glass beads and other tinsel. You have found it like Bilbo Baggins, the Hobbit, stumbling upon the Ring in the goblin tunnels. Book now but do me a favor - don‘t tell anyone about it. It‘ll be our precious little secret, ok?

The best place we stayed in the last two weeks in Kerala and South India, Lal is a wonderful and wholehearted host, he has 4 amazing rooms in Scandinavian style, we were a family of 5 and we did a cooking class together with him, a place to relax outside the hustle and bustle of Varkala but also close to everything you need, Lal is very generous And we were allowed to do laundry in the machine...when we get to South India we will come back again

Well maintained home stay for a peaceful stay for families. The caretaker is a wonderful person. Breakfast was delicious. We enjoyed the serenity of Varkala here.

Owner cancelled my booking Because my card was ‘invalid’. Disappointing as there is nothing wrong with my card and we were really looking forward to staying here. Awful service

חוויה מצוינת בכל אספקט אפשרי! החדרים מעוצבים ומרוהטים בטוב טעם. מקלחת נהדרת, אוכל נפלא, מזגן.. ומרפסת מקסימה. מעל לכל מארח שנכנס ללב והופך לחבר . איש שיחה אמיתי ואותנטי. תודה Lal! עכשיו נותר רק לתכנן את הביקור הבא🙂

An excellent experience in every possible aspect! The rooms are tastefully decorated and furnished. Great shower, wonderful food, air conditioner... and a lovely balcony. Above all a host who enters the heart and becomes a friend. A real and authentic conversationalist. Thanks Lal! Now all that remains is to plan the next visit 🙂
