Pubali Homestay

On the basis of available reviews, we booked a suite @3000/- per night. We deposited 50% in advance, but unfortunately, we couldn't complete our stay for the intended four nights. The space which was called a suite was actually a room and an adjacent living dining space. The room had an AC but the living-dining space where a twin bed was kept to make it look like a bedding accommodation was a common area through which the maid and the toto driver took entry. The toto driver is the man who serves a fixed breakfast with toast, egg and banana. There is no caretaker. A maid who sweeps floor and scrubs utensils can prepare food as per her limited list. We had plans for stay during the four days of Durga pujo, and were told that the cook will prepare food for us. However, just the day before our arrival when I called the cook, she said she could not provide us with cooking service since she has taken up a different assignment during the Pujas. When I informed the owner, he seemed absolutely unaware. On our request, the cook agreed to prepare lunch for us on the day we reached. We took lunch on the first day as we were tired after train journey. But the food was quite mediocre and exorbitantly priced compared to the quality of cooking. The entire space that day was stinking with the smell of cooked fish and the kitchen did not have any proper air circulation. There was neither an exhaust fan nor a kitchen chimney. We stayed for two nights and then moved elsewhere because of these various infrastructural shortcomings. We didn't ask the maid a second time to cook for us. We were compelled to order food through Swiggy. It would be important to mention here that the owner was always aware that ours is a group of mostly senior citizens who prefer home cooked food. Further, when the owner was informed about the stinking space, unkempt kitchen and untidy fridge, he said that we perhaps have a very sensitive nose. The electric kettle which was left in the kitchen for the guests, was the smallest of its kind and was dirty with thick layer of oil. The balcony has no fan so one can't stay there in this sultry heat for more than five minutes at a stretch. The aircooler in the living dining space doesn't work well and water is continously leaking from it, thus making the floor space stained and slippery. Also, we had to fill the aircooler by ourselves. If these all are non-issues, then one can think of putting up at Pubali.

I spent 2 nights here and the experience of staying over here is quite pleasing and amusing. The atmosphere over here is also very nice. Overall it is so nice.

😊: Home like stay but few additions could have made our stay memorable . The owner got to invest to bring the property to life . No fancy stuffs but basics are missing. 😢: No wardrobe on the living room which they have made a bedroom with sofa as a result we had to keep our changing cloths either on bed or sofa. No provision for hangers. The parking place is bit narrow . A cement slab is a must while turning vehicle to avoid any untoward incident . A table and couple chairs on the verandah would have been a great addition. Mosquitoes are another cause of concern as the place is surrounded with trees and bush..

😊: Location is very peaceful and calm. We really liked this quiet place.. 😢: Breakfast would have been a little better. Some variation needed. Typical Bengali breakfast will add more weightage..

The ambience was good. My personal favourite - a temple of Thakur, Maa and Swamiji was just adjacent to the property. The neighborhood was good, it's a calm and quiet place, with lots of trees and plants around. The interior of the property was also nice, neat and clean. The owners don't stay there, but they were always inquiring about my wellbeing over call twice a day making sure I am doing good, till I reached home safely. The toto-owner Ranjit da was super helpful and very trustworthy. Roaming in and around Shantiniketan in a toto was a soothing experience, far away from the maddening crowd...

Though a short trip, it was a wonderful experience.A perfect homely atmosphere with all facilities. A nice and calm place with its beautiful greenery, well maintained garden.... was definitely surprised to see the collection of books that made my children happy and my father nostalgic.... Thanks to Mr. Ashok Lahiri and his son Mr. Anirban Lahiri for such a nice cooperation....a nice place to visit again and highly recommended

Excellent service and hospitality. Recommended for all sorts of trips with family, friends or couples. The surrounding has eternal calmness. Visit Shantiniketan and Biswabharati which are the two main attraction of this place. Book at least 2 months advance in the time of Holi or winter Pous mela.
