★★★★★"Mohor" Bari is a synthesis of many things.|The memories of a family with deep roots in Rabindranath's Shantiniketan, with very close association with one of the greatest Rabindrasangeet singers of all time - Kanika Bandyopadhyay - aka Mohor Di. This was her father's home, and she spent her formative years in this house.|The present owner, Hirak Mukherjee, has done a wonderful job of converting this old and quaint house into a homestay with modern amenities, losing none of the old charm. I can write a lot about that.|The staff, basically the cooks we interacted with, were so caring and homely, especially the morning Didi. They made it a home away from home. The food was homely but delicious and Hirak was disappointed that we are not big eaters. The lunch on day 1 was a teaser of things that they can put on the table.|Hirak is a chilled and warm host with a golden baritone singing voice. Chatting with him over tea about old and new Shantiniketan, his aunt Kanika, his extended family was incredible. And an impromptu musical session one evening with him singing Ghazals (!!) and other songs, along with his strumming friend, was the big bonus of our stay.|We will be back again!

Sulalita - The Path through Art
NillMohor Bari - A homestay that made a big difference to our super short visit to Shantiniketan! Hirak ji who owns the place and also stars af the property, called us the previous day to confirm our time of arrival, requirement of breakfast and suggested a few things. A very warm gesture that hardly anyone does. He helped in talking to the To-To (tuk tuk) guy when we reached Bolpur station. He was standing right at the gate to welcome us with a warm smile. Then he took us to the part of the home which was a bigger room, a smaller outer room with attached bathroom and the verandah outside with lots of teastefully grown plants. The interiors were were very much natira / earthen/ ethnic and gave a great feel of being in Bengal. Then we had a great connect with Hirak ji about music, dance and art. He gave a good insight of Shantiniketan and guided us about the places we should see the next day. We had a great sleep as we felt we were staying at a home. We were woken up by the chirping of birds in the morning. We went out for a walk in the neighborhood. When we returned ws were offered nice hot tea. And later we were served fresh and homely breakfast with hot tea again. We then went out to see Shantiniketan and came back to pickup our bags. Hirak ji was again very warm, courteous and hospitable Overall a short stay which was made memorable because of the ambience and host at Mohor Bari. We would recommend this to everyone who would want to explore/ experience Shantiniketan. A big kudos to Hirak ji and all the staff in Mohor Bari.

NillMohorbari made me fall in love with Shantiniketan all over again. If you love greenery, good food, quite surroundings and an amazingly tasteful neighborhood Mohorbari is the place for you! Hirak sir was a wonderful host. The food was amazing. The room was cozy and the private verandah made it even better. It felt like home. You can stroll in the quiet and lush Purba Pally lanes or just sit in absolute awe in your very own verandah. The location itself is fantastic. Would love to go back again. Missing Lattu and his gang (cutest dogs ever) very very much.
