Hotel White House

One of the oldest motels in Dehradun, which used to be a favorite pick of the locals to host big functions like marriages. It is located at a prime, but still relatively quite place near Rajpur road it has maintained its old school charm. It has a big lawn in front with outdoor seating, too. There's ample parking space available inside the premises. Services are good and reasonable.

Whenever I go to Dehra Dun, I stay at the White House Hotel. I've been doing so for more than 30 years. The hotel is wonderfully. maintained, and it keeps getting better and better. If you like an authentic atmosphere with simple, clean rooms, it's the best bet in Dehradun

Pathetic front desk staff. Not trained to talk politely to customers. We went there to enquire for rooms for a wedding and learnt that they don't give rooms to locals (which is completely fine) but the way he told us was embarrassing. They said if your relatives are from outstation, we will allow but we won't allow you in their rooms, even to meet. What? Really ridiculous.

The place is good and old. The building is about 80 years old with high ceilings. Feels like you went back in history. The location is good with great bakeries and restaurants in close proximity. The hotel staff need to be friendlier as they looked a bit too introvert. Overall a nice place.

It was a trip to Dehra scheduled by me with my sister and her friend. On a previous trip to the city, I couldn't get a reservation, so this time I had reserved rooms in advance. At that time, there was only booking by mail (now I see it registered on makemytrip also). ||||Pros - About the stay - it was very comfortable, the rooms are huge and it felt like living in a refurbished house (which it used to be). Have heard that the 1st floor rooms are more comfy, however, they were not available when we were there as they were being repaired. There is a friendly guard dog, and I remember spending quite some time with him. The reception help desk was helpful with both arranging autos and for travel suggestions. ||||The adjacent restaurant is amazing too, and offers a lively set of food. The decor is fantastic. If I was on a leisurely tour, I might have spent quite some time there. ||||Cons - restaurant opens a bit late, so morning breakfast may get delayed. It is better to eat out in the morning (especially for people like me, who wake up at 5 am). ||Better carry extension cord, since there may not be too many charging points. ||||(Note - the trip was in March 2015, not 2017 - but wasn't being given in the options)
