Villa Varkala

What a wonderful property! Very much spacious rooms , well cleaned bathrooms. soap, shampoo and towel were provided (no dental kit). Staff were good. The cliff is almost a km from this property. They have a separate waiting area other than their reception. We had a great stay!

Unfortunately, the overall experience was below average. I was excited to stay here (the bigger room with foyer, deluxe room?), and for the good part, the building did have the basics in place e.g. nice and clean building, rooms and bathrooms; and very conveniently located close to the north cliff (i.e. all the cafes etc.), the balcony was nice too. but I faced some issues. Very poor/choppy wi-fi on the upper floor, mobile data didn't work either (so nightmare for remote work on top floor) and the staff wasn't really helpful / communicative / alert about the guests or hospitality. The mattress wasn't comfortable (spring and probably old). Overall, the property has great potential but needs more attention and maintenance.

We payed exceptionally high price for this property only to find out that it has very basic rooms. But being year end, we did not have any other options. However, it was the behaviour of the staff that almost made us regret staying here. On our final day, just 2 hours before checkout, my brother arrived to join us on the trip, slightly earlier than expected. So naturally, we asked him to come in while we pack up to leave. However, the manager intercepted us, almost like a cop, telling us that this was not allowed. I told him that we are leaving in an hour and he will just wait. He said he could wait somewhere else! I was shocked to hear this. My wife tried to reason with him and he started saying that it will be 500 rs extra for additional guest. We tried to reason, but his behaviour was very impolite and made us feel like we were doing something illegal. In the end, we quickly wrapped up our stuff as fast as we could and checked out early. Empathy is supposed to be at core of hospitality and if you cannot show that, you probably should not be running a hotel business. It was the worst experience I have ever had in a stay and I strongly recommend staying somewhere else if you want a hassle free stay. To be fully honest, we did not have any problems with the room. It was clean and spacious. But the behaviour of manager certainly spoiled our vacation.

The rooms here are truly aesthetic, clean, and spacious! 🤩 I genuinely felt right at home during my stay. The staff was incredibly cooperative and helpful, even assisting with local transport like scooty and auto rickshaws. 🛵 Such a pleasant experience! 😊

Really great value for money, perfect location, clean and well appointed. The building is fairly new (2024 I think?) and the room we had was carefully designed and very spacious. Lots of nearby cafes and restaurants. Highly recommend.
