Park Hyatt Sanya Sunny Bay Resort

Just got back from a 2 night stay at this property and it has far exceeded my expectations as a long time Globalist and Hyatt hotel explorer in China.||||First, this hotel is magnificently built and maintained. It's massive and feels like an architectural design masterpiece. There are Instagram worthy photo spots almost everywhere you look inside, not to mention the natural beauty of the Sunny Bay and outdoor pool areas, which are stunning. Yes, this tends to attract the social media influencers (or "wang hong" in Chinese) who are not only hogging up the photo spots, but also typically bring 2-3 of their camera-men along, so the hotel at times will feel a little bit less private and crowded because of them. Not a huge deal as you can simply ignore them. Note: the hotel is still in a gated off private area of Sanya with its own private beach, so you're already shielded from 99% of the huge typical tourist crowds of the city.||||Second, if you search this hotel on Chinese social media and travel booking apps, you're going to see a TON of negative reviews and reports of incidents of bad service, poor room condition, awful experience, etc. Going into this stay, I was definitely concerned. But I quickly realized how exaggerated the negative reviews were, and now suspect foul play in many of the negative reviews written. Having lived in China for 10 years, here's my take on why so many negative reviews pop up for this property:||1) This is an expensive hotel by Chinese standards, so the typical Chinese guest who rarely stay at properties in this price range, are going to expect a heavenly palace-like experience for the money they paid.||2) Consumers in China are highly demanding of service people in general. Anything less than bend-the-knee type of service is going to offend them (ok I'm exaggerating here but it's not as far as you think from reality).||3) I wouldn't be surprised if some of the bad reviews originate from competitor properties. There are third-party contractors businesses can hire for cheap to generate this kind of bad press. And this type of malicious competition exists in almost every industry in China.||4) A big draw of this property is its architecture, you end up wondering how many staff hours and dollars are dedicated to just maintaining it on a daily basis. But this isn't going to impress most Chinese guests, who are used to seeing grand displays of infrastructure even in small tier 4-5 cities.

Great Location. Hotel is in a fairly private location away from everything else. Definitely the best hotel I‘ve been to in Sanya so far. The interior is beautifully designed. Even though the last renovation is quite a few years ago: you wouldn‘t notice. Everything is kept in impeccable state. ||||That said: the designated ocean swimming area is fairly small and closes at around 6pm. So it can get crowded if you want to take a swim in the ocean.

The secluded location allows for pure rest and relaxation. The artworks throughout the property are awe inspiring. The suite and the view over the bay are stunning. Food and drinks offerings are of high quality, but most of all the staff are outstanding. Especially Sam, Guest Experience Manager, Ado, the Pool House Manager, James, Pool House waiter and Gary, the Chinese restaurant manager were amazing. Amazing pre-arrangement in the suite, spot-on Chinese dinner recommendations, very professional, kind and smooth service at breakfast and lunch at the Pool House. I recommend it highly!

Stayed for 5 nights. Beautiful design and modern. Excellent communication with Linda who provided exceptional service with immediate response to requests and concerns Beach is at a bay, clean, calm and crystal clear water. Close to near by stores and restaurants. Free shuttle to duty free malls. Again great care and hospitality from Linda, will be back.!!!

Wow , wow wow, the best 5 star hotel, of my life, i was in many places, and high quality ranking hotel, if you read my comment and just thinking to choose between this park hyatt or an other trust me just take it, i suggest to much that i choose + to parkhyat in my staying in Sanya intercontinental + Mgm, the level of comparison not exist, the park hyat staff amazing, the reception, LUNA , and i will repeat Luna , she assist us the best assitance, bring for us small gift , make us feel the highest level of hospitality, they did for us a surprise it was honneymoon cake ,the pool it great, the architecture amazing .Luna thank you again for everythings, and dear readers please dont waste your money and time anywhere else, This is your PLACe

Our stay at the Park Hyatt Sunny Bay resort in Sanya Hainan was way too short. (3 days) The hotel is located at the end of a road in a bay with a gorgeous view over the bay and South China sea. We were warmly welcomed by the Head Butler Taylor Jin who also gave us his We Chat contact so that we could reach him 24/7 should we have any questions about the hotel or anything else. We happily made us of that possibility and Taylor was always quick to answer with good advice. The Hotel itself is a piece of art and has many artworks throughout the different buildings and is therefore a "feast for the eye" We used the 130 meter pool not only to swim but also to paddle on a surfboard. With separate pools for the very small and small kids we did not have to worry that we would bump into them with the surf board. English is widely spoken throughout the hotel which is not always common in China. Breakfast was great as all food was from superior quality . Obviously here the motto was quality above quantity and that is the way it should be. Winnie made sure that we were not coming short of espresso, orange juice and food. The Chinese restaurant is in beautiful old style Chinese decoration. At the Terrace Bruce Shen took great care of us during The Club Happy Hour assisted by Linn Lin and the next day by Winnie. Our 168 m2 suite was marvelous and had a magnificent view over the bay and part of the South China Sea. It was a (too) short but wonderful stay and looking forward to go back there again.
