NillI don’t even know where to begin! We had the best time at Wrangell Mountain Lodge. McCarthy Road was not as rough as everyone makes it sound. Just take it easy and your tires will be fine! Don’t let the partially paved/partially dirt road stop you from staying here! We stayed in the Bear Cabin and our friends stayed in the Fishing Cabin. Both cabins were incredibly comfortable. The cabins had rustic wilderness decor with comfortable beds. Every morning started with an incredible breakfast cooked by hosts James and Cristina. We enjoyed huge home cooked breakfasts and great conversation with them. The property is beautiful and surrounded by mountains. Wrangell Mountain Lodge is the perfect place to experience the quiet serenity of Wrangell-St. Elias with modern comfort and conveniences. We didn’t want to leave!!

NillWe had an amazing stay in Bear Cabin which is one of the four lovely cabins. The surroundings are just beautiful. The breakfast was huge and delicious. James and Christina are great hosts (quoting my 2 daughters “very cool people”). They gave us a lot of travel advices and shared their stories during breakfast. They even lent us the bear spray to use for the hiking to Root Glacier as we didn’t bring our own. This is an ideal spot to stay if you plan to hike the Root Glacier Trail. The condition of the gravel road from Chitina to McCarthy is way better than we thought. In our opinion a sedan could manage comfortably and we did see a few sedans made to the end of McCarthy road. We actually first saw this lodge at Booking.com but it only allows two adults. So we found its own website and contacted James. The cabin has an attic and a tepee (which is so lovely that my 8 year old daughter didn’t want to get out the next morning) so that it accommodated our family of 4 without a problem.

★★★★★Make the effort to come stay here, this place is a little piece of quiet and comfort in a crazy world. James and Christina are the perfect hosts, providing a massive homemade breakfast every morning. Everything in the cabins is thoughtfully appointed and decorated…the Bear cabin is super cute! The bed is amazingly comfortable, comfy seating on the deck listening to the river with full access to the meticulously clean and organized cookhouse. The road to McCarthy is not as scary as some would want you to believe and their cabins are a great Galway point between Chitina and McCarthy. One night is not long enough…two worked for us but honestly I could have used one more day. James and Christina, thank you for sharing your little piece of heaven with the world.

NillWe had an awesome experience at the Wrangell Mountain Lodge. It’s a wonderful B&B with exceptionally equipped private cabins with incredible views of the Wrangell mountains. James and Cristina are excellent hosts and we wish we had planned to stay more than one night! The cabin we stayed in was by far the nicest cabin we’ve stayed at in Alaska and we really enjoyed getting to meet James and Cristina and learn about their story. Breakfast was great, the bed was more comfortable than our own, and we loved just getting to explore the property. Highly recommend staying there and using it as a home base to explore the Wrangell-st Elias national park!

NillI can’t write enough positive words about our stay here. The hosts, James and Christina will welcome you with wonderful Alaskan hospitality and work tirelessly to give a phenomenal experience. Their breakfast was absolutely fantastic and gave us the fuel for a day full of adventure. The cabin was the best retreat we could have asked for, spotlessly clean and relaxing. I hope to visit again soon.

NillAmazing place! The owners took such good care of us. The cabins are so well decorated and extremely clean. The property is on 10 acres with only four cabins, so you felt like you had the whole place to yourself at any time you were there. This place is a must! Also: We were skeptical of driving here because of everything we read saying that McCarthy road is awful... it really wasn't in our opinion. If you drive carefully (as you should anywhere) you'll be fine, just take your time driving and enjoy the views along the way! We saw a few sedans/hatchbacks on the road that made it to the very end of McCarthy road.

NillWe stayed with James and Christina in the Bear cabin for three nights. The breakfast they serve is awesome. Cook house is well appointed for any type of meal you want to make. Cabins are clean and they face away from each other so you feel like you’re in the woods by yourself. And you can go to sleep listening to the creek nearby.

★★★★★Spent two nights there August 2-4, 2022. As many guests before me have stated, the cabins were the best we stayed in Alaska and James and Christina are the perfect hosts. There is no need to cancel your visit based on rental car companies (using 5 year old info before a lot of work since has been done to make the road easy to travel on) or others who may have traveled on the road a long time ago and mentioned that the road is very rough to drive on. You can use any non 4 wheel drive vehicle on the road like a Honda Civic or a Toyota Camry and it will not be a problem at all.||||This Lodge is the perfect location for anyone who wants to see Wrangell St. Elias Park and wants to be spoiled by James and Christina in a cabin that is a diamond in the rough! || Do yourself a favor and spoil yourself by staying there!
