AC Hotel San Diego Downtown Gaslamp Quarter

I stayed here for 5 days, (originally was supposed to be 4 days but I extended my trip) and I have no complaints. It is a really nice hotel. Couldn’t see anything from my room really but I didn’t book a room with a city view so that was no problem. My housekeeper Leslie was very sweet and left us notes and chocolate when she cleaned. She cleaned our room every morning and replaced our towels. There’s also a white noise machine in the room which states it’s to help with any outside noise. We used the machine but honestly there was no outside noise lol which I’m happy about, so this definitely is a great hotel location even though it’s literally in the middle of downtown. And the area is very walkable. The downstairs lounge area was very nice, there’s also a bar and an area for breakfast everyday. Now the ROOFTOP? Beautiful. So gorgeous and a lot of space up there. There were 2 areas with these canopy beds, and a pool. Given that we came in February, there weren’t much people up there which was honestly great because me and my friend got to relax up there any time of day. And the pool was heated. I loved it here honestly and would stay here again. Staff was also very nice and friendly :) 10/10!

While the hotel itself provided satisfactory accommodations, our experience was disappointing by an issue regarding the advertised amenities. We booked our stay specifically for the location and rooftop pool with daybeds and a bar (travelling from NY to San Diego in February we were hoping to utilize this during our stay), which was a major highlight in the hotel's online promotions. We had tried accessing the pool with our key card and it didn't work. After approaching the front desk about this my husband and I were informed that the rooftop was permanently closed, a 'fact' not mentioned during booking or check-in. Despite our inquiries and attempts to access the rooftop, which were unsuccessful, we later faced claims from the hotel stating that the rooftop was open during our stay. This contradiction was not only confusing but extremely disappointing. Staff explicitly told us that the rooftop was closed permanently, yet the hotel management later denied this. I am seeing other reviews from a week ago that it was open so this makes absolutely no sense to me. After they told me it was closed indefinitely why the hell would I try again to access it?? I was also asked for proof of this interaction why would I have recorded something like this?? While the rest of the services at the hotel were adequate, the lack of access to the amenities we most looked forward to, and the handling of our situation, leaves us feeling deceived and undervalued as guests. Although we did not receive any reimbursement from the hotel, Expedia stepped in to offer us a credit for the inconvenience. For future travelers, while the hotel offers clean and comfortable accommodations and is in a great location (party spot on the weekends and gets noisy, didn't bother us though), please verify the availability of all advertised amenities and take any communication from the staff with caution.

Room was not ready until 5 pm. They did upgrade the room then but ruined our evening plans. Don’t stay if you have a tight schedule. Much better places to stay near here. Location is great for gas lamp area. Rooftop pool is cute and small. The layout of the rooftop is not that great though.

One of the best locations in downtown. Easy to reach convention center, trolley and nearby city bus stops. Stayed for 5 nights and must say that staff at the reception was always polite and courteous; they always greeted me with a 😊. Room service staff too was very prompt and always did a fantastic job in keeping the room clean and remembered to stock necessary supplies. Overall a thumbs up to hotel management and all the staff members.

A modern, 4-star hotel (at least) in our opinion. Yes, it is in the middle of a noisy party area on Fri & Sat nights, but it provided a colorful backdrop to our stay, offered tons of restaurant options at all price points & didn’t affect us negatively at all from inside the hotel. The rooftop deck cabanas are a lovely touch & the service is helpful & friendly. If you have an event at the convention center it’s a short 12-13 minute walk, with plenty to see along the way. We’d definitely stay here again & probably choose it over many others. A great hotel!

My husband and I spent 4 nights and really enjoyed our stay. Our initial room was overlooking a loud street and they happily moved us. Special kudos to Sylvia, who provided excellent service during breakfast and always with a smile. Shay, who went above and beyond wearing multiple hats! And, Anthony who made sure our stay was perfect. We will be back!

For my first time being in San Diego, this was a very nice place. A lot of the other spots looked worn down. Yet this place was so clean and modern. We were literally in the heart of the gas lamp heart. I'll definitely stay here again. Only wish the breakfast was part of the deal. That was extra. I was sorta bummed about that. Otherwise, the rooms were very clean and the bathrooms were very modern. Excellent place to stay. Never got a chance to go to the roof or gym because we were so tired from our outing from the day.

I had such a lovely time at this hotel. The staff was friendly and welcoming. I particularly enjoyed my experience at the rooftop pool. I was immediately greeted by Whitney, who told me a little about the space and made sure I was comfortable and taken care of. The decor is very fashion forward and transports you to a tropical oasis that is relaxing any tranquil. It is also close to all of the classic downtown staples, making it a perfect place to stay if you want to enjoy a fun night out on the town. The General Manager of this hotel should be very proud of the work they have done with this hotel. I will definitely be back!
