NillUPDATED REVIEW Replying to the Econolodge reply!! Whatever you do DO NOT stay at the Econolodge in Ames IA let’s start things off. We arrived at the Econolodge and walked in to the main entrance it reeked of marijuana so did the hallways. we checked out the pool the ceiling is literally falling off and there is rust absolutely everywhere. The funny part is when I had made a review and posted the video of the Pool recorded on Friday Jan 24 2025. Today when I had made the review we went out to eat at about the time they responded. When we got back I hadn’t realized it until three hours later. the reply had said everyone that has been staying has been notified and the pool is closed. The pool door has been wide open since we got here until we had gotten back from Wendy’s. Approximately when they responded guaranteeing, they knew their pool was terrible. I had checked under the bed. It was disgusting and it had remnants of bedbugs. Anyway this morning at 9 am we had been waken up to housekeeping when we opened the door and she proceeded to say “you get out check out” apparently in the review reply they have had squatters but you guys should be checking your sheet on who is staying and what days they are leaving. Now we get to the bathroom the bathtub drain switch was literally rusted off and dangling. we could not take a bath. we had them proceeded to ask if we could get a new room they had gave us another room and let us keep our old one. but then another problem pops up. This bathroom doesn’t have a drain switch. So we had to call the front desk again. they had kindly given us a drain stopper. The bathtub took approximately 20 minutes to drain because there was a huge clump of hair in the drain. The shit show doesn’t stop there next I went to the other room I had to grab something and when I went to pull to open the door, the handle had fallen off and pulled with my hand. We then proceeded to call the front desk again because we were stuck in our room. They told us they would fix it in the morning and that if you just put it back on and pull it should be fine. The last problem doesn’t stop there minor problem, but still disgusting. We had then realized that the shampoo, lotion and conditioner from the other room had been previously used and not replaced. that is all I have and I would not recommend this hotel to anybody. The front desk staff are nice but very very shady for trying to cover up the fact that the pool has been closed. if possible, a refund or discount should be issued. Plan to talk to front desk at check out on Sunday Jan 26 2025 UPDATE owner tried charging 200 dollars for “damages” and cussed out my Step father and said he would make it so we can’t stay in any hotel in ames ever again. would not recommend staying here AT ALL. Corporate threatened to take his branch away and gave us 8000 points towards a 2 night free stay.

★★★★★Rooms are being renovated and under new management. Breakfast options are better from previous management. Check out the Weekend Breakfast!!! Ask for new rooms on the East Wing! New paints and great staffs work the place. Older staffs were let go when new management took over. I have been staying here for every football games for the past 3 years! Definitely this place is turning around!!!

NillThis was a great place to stay! The staff was very welcoming and friendly. My room was updated and spacious. It was clean and comfortable, the shower had great pressure too! The price was affordable and very fair. I’d certainly stay here again!

NillI recently had the pleasure of staying at the Econo lodge I can confidently say it exceeds many five star establishments, From the moment I arrived, I was greeted with warmth and respect by the owner, who truly goes above and beyond to ensure every guest feels welcomed. The cleanliness of the motel is remarkable; every corner reflects a commitment to maintaining a pristine environment. It’s clear that the staff takes great pride in their work, making the overall atmosphere inviting and comfortable. One of the standout features of my stay was the breakfast. It was not only delicious but also offered a great variety, ensuring there’s something for everyone to enjoy. The motel’s dedication to service is evident 24/7, making it a reliable choice for travelers. Whether you need assistance or have a question, the staff is always available and eager to help. If you're looking for a place that combines exceptional service, cleanliness, and a welcoming atmosphere, I highly recommend the Econo Lodge Motel in Ames. It truly is a hidden gem that outshines many higher-rated hotels.

NillWould never stay at this hotel again. When we checked in the hotel had a strong smell of curry and when we got to the room, we noticed that the shower had grime and dirt in the corners and on the walls we also noticed that there was a dead moth in the bed, which was quite disturbing. When we returned to our hotel after being at the Iowa State game, we found that the hotel had a strong marijuana smell to it, and the experience was not great and I will never be staying here again.

★Positive: This is more like a motel and is very unkept and dirty. Breakfast included stale biscuits that were hard like rock. My appetite was ruined. Room was dirty and entire facility is old. A lot of sketchy activities going on at night. I felt very unsafe. Negative: vacation was ruined. After I checked in for 7 nights. Within 16 hours motel owner called the room and told me that he is rekeying the room keys and moving us to the room next to the front desk. As a single woman traveling with a child I felt very unsafe.
