NillThe rooms are very outdated and could really use updating. Shower temperature took a while to dial in. Other than that they do the job. Good price and a quick walk to most things. I love the skywalk access. The desk workers were nice . The $30 parking fee is definitely steep in my opinion.

★★★The hotel was ok, room was generally clean and the bed was comfortable. However, this hotel is tired and really showing its age. Only one elevator was working and that was incredibly frustrating because there weren’t internal stairs that would allow you to move between floors. It was a convenient location but parking was a challenge. We will stay elsewhere the next time we are in downtown Des Moines.

★I was so excited to stay at the historic hotel property that dates back to 1923. And guess what? You can literally smell the 100 years of operation that has taken place in the hotel. And not in a good way. The hotel rooms are very poorly kept. The room that we were given to check into, had the foulest smell! A very unpleasant smell! the furniture was old, the couch was super old and smelly. The shower in my room was nasty and unclean, with lots of hair in the shower. It was absolutely disgusting! The rooms look ancient, are poorly insulated also. It was cold in the room and it took quite a while for the heat to get going. Experiencing such an awful stay at this Hyatt Place, has made me not EVER want to stay at another Hyatt brand! Very disappointing. Go to the Marriot or somewhere else! Unless you are a glutton for punishment. Hyatt Place in Downtown Des Moines needs a serious makeover in their rooms because it's a hott mess! Truly not a good representation of the Hyatt Brand.

NillI expected to have a lot better experience since I spent $273 a night. The breakfast was cold and seriously disappointing. There is no hot tub. The room had paint chips in the wall, nasty chewed up furniture, Incredibly uncomfortable cheap beds. The water pressure in the shower was passing at best and the toilet sounded like it wanted to eat your soul when it gets flushed. Honestly I get a better experience at the holiday Inn Express on sw 9th.

NillOur room was clean but well worn and dated. The couch and ottoman were in need of replacement. The fabric was threadbare in spots. The parking situation is a fiasco. You have to pay ($30) to park in part of a garage across the street and all of the spots are marked for compact cars. It's winter time, so parking several blocks away in the public garage is not a good option. If that's the other choice, they should have a valet do that. There are also virtually no spots to park right out front to do check in. We also almost got stuck in the garage because we were not informed we would need our keycard to leave. We did online check out and left the keys in the room. Thankfully, someone was leaving right behind us and let us use their card to get out. The breakfast was well stocked and tasty, and this was during a large dance competition, so there were lots of guests eating. The bed was squeaky, but our room was quiet (5th floor).

NillThe bed was hard as a rock. It was noisy all night, long near our room, making it very difficult to sleep. Their system checked us out before check out time so our key cards stopped working. Super frustrating since we needed the room until their specified check out time of noon. It appeared that housecleaning was already in our room. The key also did not work for the skywalk. The only good thing was the breakfast was decent.

NillShower mixer was broken, too hot or too cold no mix. I did report this to staff as I left. Very worn sofa, furniture and bed. Bed was hard and squeeky. Breakfast was what you get at any mid level hotel. Its food. Nuf said. Lol. Priced correctly at 115.00 as of 1/25. You get what you pay for.

★★★Great location downtown but the hotel needs a lot of work. ||-rooms are outdated and need a refresh like painting, outlets, and amenities. Carpet is old. ||-hotel gym doesn’t have workout mats or a working water station (why keep a water jug out that doesn’t work?). They do have a Peloton bike, which is a plus. ||-parking garage is across the street, making it inconvenient to check in (you must check in first) and check out (having to lug your suitcase across the street)||-breakfast is served until 9. I got downstairs 1 minute before 9 and started plating. The worker started putting away food, which is fine, but maybe give me a moment to get my toast before you go around taking food away around me. ||Overall, I won’t be back.
